Major step in £10m restoration of 'I'm a Celebrity' castle set to start in 2025
Gwrych Castle is set to get a new roof and floor

The work must be first agreed by Conwy’s planning committee, but the trust received around £2.3m from the National Heritage Memorial Fund two years ago. The rest of the total £2.5m funds have been raised by fundraising, and the trust now hopes that the castle can be restored within the next five years – although this still depends on securing more funding...https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/major-step-10m-restoration-im-30623595?IYA-reg=49560bcd-5a9c-47f0-8fc5-ba2e71710589

A PUB in Rhos-on-Sea could be converted into an apartment and retail unit, after plans were submitted to Conwy County Borough Council.

Applicant Luke Pearce, of Old Colwyn-based L Pearce Home Improvements Ltd, wishes to change the use of The Boat House pub on Everard Road.

Plans would see the conversion of part of the ground floor of the establishment into an apartment, with the front section of the pub to become a new retail unit (for which plans have already been approved).

This would involve the construction of an extension, as well as external alterations to the rear of the building........ https://www.northwalespioneer.co.uk/news/24826344.plans-apartment-retail-unit-rhos-on-sea-pub-site/?ref=rss&IYA-reg=49560bcd-5a9c-47f0-8fc5-ba2e71710589

'Appeal likely' after plan to demolish home before new estate built is refused
A developer wanted to demolish the home before building 43 properties on a field nearby

Whilst councillors had already refused permission in December, councillors had to reaffirm the decision as they went against officers’ advice, which was to grant permission for the plans which included 30% affordable housing. But after a lengthy debate, with some councillors arguing Conwy needed the housing, councillors stuck by their guns, following the authority receiving 179 letters of objection – with the community "enraged" by th e plans.
Well done to the CCBC Councillors for sticking to their guns and I hope that any appeal is rejected by the Wales Office

Conwy Valley application will come before the planning committee

An application for retrospective planning permission for timber lodges in the Conwy Valley is tipped for refusal. Peter Davidson has applied to Conwy County Council’s planning department, seeking permission for a change of use of land for the siting of 15 timber holiday lodges.

Housing estate objector says rural views 'are being taken away bit by bit'

A new housing estate made of 28 affordable homes could be built in Colwyn Bay. Wales and West Housing Association has applied to Conwy Council's planning committee, seeking permission to build the homes at land off Heol Dirion, Colwyn Bay.

The land is currently an open field, described as being within comfortable walking distance from shops. The Deeside-based housing association plan to create a public road as part of the plans as well as associated landscaping, gardens, access, and infrastructure.

PLANS to build a light industrial unit at a derelict site in Llandudno have been refused.

St Asaph-based Elwy Properties had sought to convert an empty plot of land off Council Street West into a light industrial unit with associated works.

The land is understood to have never been developed on, and its planning history suggests that no building has ever existed there.

Planning approval was granted in the 1980s for a covered storage yard, but this never materialised.

The introduction of parking charges on Old Colwyn promenade have been branded a "revenue raising" measure which should be withdrawn. Conwy Council plans to bring in charges for the promenade following an £18m transformation as part of sea defence work paid for with Welsh Government funding.

During a meeting on Thursday, Old Colwyn councillors David Carr, Cheryl Carlisle, Neil Coverley and Gail Jones all signed a call-in against the cabinet’s plans to introduce parking charges between 10am and 4pm. At the meeting of the economy and overview and scrutiny committee, back bench councillors slammed the plans and claimed the council was attempting to raise revenue, with suggestions the additional income could help fund the authority’s huge social care bill.....https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/old-colwyn-promenade-parking-fees-31296014?IYA-reg=49560bcd-5a9c-47f0-8fc5-ba2e71710589

Re: CCBC: Latest planning applications...New nursing home Llandudno

A NURSING home in Llandudno currently being used as offices could welcome residents back, after plans to renovate the home were submitted.

The owners of Abbey Nursing Home, at Abbey Road, have proposed the renovation and reconfiguration of the site.

The proposal would see a facelift for the existing rooms, an extension to the second floor lounge area, and lift access to the second floor.

A three-storey home, the number of bedrooms would be reduced from 17 to 16 amid an increase in bathrooms – foul capacity would therefore be reduced, the plans said.

Abbey Nursing Home is currently only used as office space by owners Orme View Care Home Limited – this will remain the case until work has been completed.

Owners of Orme View Residential Home on Llandudno’s West Shore, the company purchased the nursing home in November 2024.

I think this company linked to past owners of the Lauriston Court Hotel?

New rules may take unfinished housing sites off developers

Developers who leave housing sites unfinished for years could see their land handed over to local councils under new rules aimed at getting new homes built faster.

Under government plans, housebuilders will have to commit to delivery time frames before they get planning permission, and will also have to submit annual reports to councils showing their progress.
It's a pity that this rule wasn't in force when Anwyl Homes was granted planning permission for the former Penmorfa Hotel site nearly 20 years ago

Controversial apartments development gets go-ahead despite 'unaffordable' fear
The Robertson Geologging Ltd building will be demolished to make way for 19 new flats

Conwy’s planning committee met this week at the council’s Coed Pella HQ to debate the application. Several councillors objected to the development, arguing the applicant needed to provide affordable housing or make a financial contribution to the community.

Cllr David Carr suggested the flats would be unaffordable to most locals, would not help the council’s housing problem, and would likely end up as holiday homes. But planning officers advised the committee affordable housing was "unviable" at the site due to market value and explained that consequently a 106 agreement in the form of community contributions was not viable either in an area that was repeatedly described at the meeting as “affluent”.

The UK Government, the Welsh Government and CCBC  all come out with this phrase "Affordable Homes"       Are they just giving lip service to these words because actions speak louder than words
There are consequences for CCBC if a planning application is refused but everyone should abide by what they preach

This developer is not only not building any affordable homes  but is also not paying a sum in lieu for affordable housing and yet the CCBC planning officers have passed this application

The Law is an Ass and so are the nodding donkeys from the CCBC planning committee who supported this application but full marks to the Councillors who stood up and objected to the proposal
