A PUB in Rhos-on-Sea could be converted into an apartment and retail unit, after plans were submitted to Conwy County Borough Council.

Applicant Luke Pearce, of Old Colwyn-based L Pearce Home Improvements Ltd, wishes to change the use of The Boat House pub on Everard Road.

Plans would see the conversion of part of the ground floor of the establishment into an apartment, with the front section of the pub to become a new retail unit (for which plans have already been approved).

'Appeal likely' after plan to demolish home before new estate built is refused
A developer wanted to demolish the home before building 43 properties on a field nearby     
Whilst councillors had already refused permission in December, councillors had to reaffirm the decision as they went against officers’ advice, which was to grant permission for the plans which included 30% affordable housing. But after a lengthy debate, with some councillors arguing Conwy needed the housing, councillors stuck by their guns, following the authority receiving 179 letters of objection – with the community "enraged" by th e plans.
Well done to the CCBC Councillors for sticking to their guns and I hope that any appeal is rejected by the Wales Office

Timber cabin tourism development in Conwy is tipped for refusal

An application for retrospective planning permission for timber lodges in the Conwy Valley is tipped for refusal. Peter Davidson has applied to Conwy County Council’s planning department, seeking permission for a change of use of land for the siting of 15 timber holiday lodges.

A DEVELOPER has submitted plans to construct 28 sustainable homes in Colwyn Bay.

A proposal by Wales and West Housing Association would see 28 homes built on an unused section of land at Heol Dirion.

The homes would be made up of two one-bedroom bungalows, 16 two-bedroom houses, eight three-bedrooms houses, and two four-bedroom homes.

Housing estate objector says rural views 'are being taken away bit by bit'

A new housing estate made of 28 affordable homes could be built in Colwyn Bay. Wales and West Housing Association has applied to Conwy Council's planning committee, seeking permission to build the homes at land off Heol Dirion, Colwyn Bay.

The land is currently an open field, described as being within comfortable walking distance from shops. The Deeside-based housing association plan to create a public road as part of the plans as well as associated landscaping, gardens, access, and infrastructure.

PLANS to build a light industrial unit at a derelict site in Llandudno have been refused.

St Asaph-based Elwy Properties had sought to convert an empty plot of land off Council Street West into a light industrial unit with associated works.

The land is understood to have never been developed on, and its planning history suggests that no building has ever existed there.

Planning approval was granted in the 1980s for a covered storage yard, but this never materialised.

The introduction of parking charges on Old Colwyn promenade have been branded a "revenue raising" measure which should be withdrawn. Conwy Council plans to bring in charges for the promenade following an £18m transformation as part of sea defence work paid for with Welsh Government funding.

During a meeting on Thursday, Old Colwyn councillors David Carr, Cheryl Carlisle, Neil Coverley and Gail Jones all signed a call-in against the cabinet’s plans to introduce parking charges between 10am and 4pm. A NURSING home in Llandudno currently being used as offices could welcome residents back, after plans to renovate the home were submitted.

The owners of Abbey Nursing Home, at Abbey Road, have proposed the renovation and reconfiguration of the site.

The proposal would see a facelift for the existing rooms, an extension to the second floor lounge area, and lift access to the second floor.

A three-storey home, the number of bedrooms would be reduced from 17 to 16 amid an increase in bathrooms – foul capacity would therefore be reduced, the plans said.

Abbey Nursing Home is currently only used as office space by owners Orme View Care Home Limited – this will remain the case until work has been completed.

Owners of Orme View Residential Home on Llandudno’s West Shore, the company purchased the nursing home in November 2024.
