The Bay Hop, at 17 Penrhyn Road, was voted Pub of the Year by members of the Abercolwyn Branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale).

Llandudno's Wildwood restaurant at risk as UK chain announces raft of closures
The parent company will close a number of loss-making restaurants

The restaurant firm behind the Wildwood chain has revealed plans to shut a raft of sites as part of a major restructuring. Tasty, which also runs sites under Dim T brand, said it plans to exit loss-making restaurants after a "challenging" start to the year.

The restructuring plan would see the group shut 18 of these restaurants, with two of these sites already closed to customers. It has not disclosed the locations of the sites earmarked for closure. Tasty currently has 43 Wildwood restaurants in operation, six Dim-T pan-Asian restaurants, two non-trading sites and three sub-let venues.

THE OWNER of a popular tea room and caf? in the centre of Llandudno has decided to sell the business.

Karen Thompson, owner of The Lemon Tree Tea Rooms, at 5 St George's Place, has made the ?heart-breaking? decision to sell the caf?.

Ms Thompson said the decision was ?huge?, having run the business with her parents Brian and Sheila after opening in 2017.

She said it had been a ?journey and joy? to create what they have, but that the health of her and her family was the priority.

Re: Cafes, Restaurants, Pubs & Takeaways.....Tŷ Castell (Castle House)

A highly rated restaurant with rooms that closed earlier this year has been put up for sale. Gareth F?n Jones and Roland Evans fell in love with Tŷ Castell (Castle House) - a place that was originally home to the castle constable.

It had been empty since 1993 but the couple restored the property in 2017 and opened it as a place to eat, drink and stay. The site built up an excellent reputation - securing AA rosettes for its food.

But Gareth F?n, who was also headteacher at Ysgol Dolbadarn in Llanberis, sadly died last summer, aged 53. This February it was announced it was closing with a "heavy heart".

It is now on the market with Dafydd Hardy for ?450,000.

The executive chef and owner at one of Wales's finest restaurant has penned a cookbook. Signatures in Conwy was named the country's best restaurant at the World Culinary Awards in Dubai in November.

It was the latest accolade for the venue which is run by chef and co-owner Jimmy Williams with his wife Louise. Now he has written a book so home cooks can try to recreate some of their favourite dishes at home.

A NEW sushi takeaway is set to open in Llandudno, after a planning application was approved.

The plans, submitted by Edvard Ivanian, will see the conversion of the former New Skin Tattoo Studio premises, at 57B Mostyn Avenue, into a takeaway.

At present, the restaurant will only be permitted to serve cold food, with no external area for food and drink provision until further approval is granted.

The plans have divided public opinion, with some residents in favour of a new takeaway in the area, while others say it impacts their quality of life.

North Wales tea room at beautiful garden with 'top notch' coffee and cream teas

Nestled in the Eryri foothills of North Wales, Bodnant Garden was forged by the Victorian vision of one extraordinary man and is today cherished by visitors from over the world over as a horticultural haven. Early records show that Bodnant (which in Welsh means "dwelling by a stream") was home to the Lloyd family from the reign of James I.

When Victorian industrialist Henry Davis Pochin and his wife bought Bodnant at auction in 1874 it was an estate with walled garden, woods and plantations. It was Pochin's grand vision which shaped the garden into the world renowned one we know today.

The décor has a lazy afternoon tea in a big garden shed vibe with dark and pale green tables and chairs. The place is full of people in walking boots, anoraks and dogs.

You order at the counter next to an array of rhubarb flapjacks, giant cookies and Bara Brith. The small and simple bilingual menu offers Welsh rarebit, jacket potato, pasties and soups.

TWO AMERICAN guests with an unlikely link to a bar in Llandudno stopped by for a surprise visit, with a remarkable story about its history.

Debbie Bank and Joseph Realdine travelled all the way from Hawaii to Llandudno in search of a bar with strong family ties.

They arrived at The Gresham, a cocktail bar at 143 Mostyn Street, and stunned members of staff with a backstory dating back more than 100 years.

Debbie’s great great grandmother and grandfather Julia Knapp and Charles Mac had bought The Gresham in 1913.

The couple owned the business until 1925, with some of their descendants ending up settling in Haleiwa, around 40 minutes from the Hawaiian capital Honolulu.

The Gresham said of the visit: “They flew over from Hawaii just to come to visit The Gresham and made us aware in the venue.

“You find a piece of history every day.

“Thank you to both Debbie and Joseph for coming in and sharing the story.”                              ref pioneer
