A BAR and restaurant in Llandudno celebrated its official opening at the weekend.

The Abode, a nautical-themed bar located at Gloddaeth Street, had its grand opening on Saturday (March 1) after a soft launch, with live music, the previous night.

The business is owned by two couples with more than 100 years’ experience in hospitality between them – Paul and Michelle Heathcote and Paul and Tanya Waywell.

The Heathcotes are known to many in Llandudno, having run Craig-y-Don—based bar Someplace Else for several years before passing it onto their son.

Their partners Tanya and Paul bring a wealth of hospitality and front-of-house experience, with Tanya having worked at The Cottage Loaf for many years and Paul now the head chef at The Abode.

Situated at the former site of the downsized The Loaf coffee and sandwich bar, The Abode has a beautiful, furnished, wooden interior complete with a sophisticated bar (and exclusive wine list).

I haven't been to Signatures in Conwy since before the Pandemic but yesterday Mrs H and I went there for Sunday Lunch.    It's our favourite restaurant and nothing has changed since our last visit, thank goodness
The staff were excellent and the food was delicious so we are looking forward to going there again soon

It's also our favourite :-)

A SOCIAL club in Llandudno which ceased trading in December after 119 years will make its return later this week.

Llandudno Conservative Club, on Mostyn Street, closed for business on December 8, citing a "lack of trade and funds to support the club and keep it financially viable".

The club was founded in 1905, and remained a popular venue for events and sports and leisure activities, including bingo and snooker.

But three months on from its sudden closure, the club will return "under new management and committee" on Friday, March 28.

The opening evening will include a bingo, disco, and free buffet - the club is accepting new members again.

Llandudno Conservative Club was approached for comment.                             ref pioneer

Yesterday we went out for Sunday Lunch and  went to the Hayloft at Bodnant.  We had never been there before so we were looking forward to seeing the place and having a meal there.    It is set in a stunning location in the Conwy Valley and on arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome and shown to our table and a bottle of chilled water was brought to us straight away which is always a good sign.
The restaurant is a beautiful barn conversion and spotlessly clean and before long the waitress warmly
came and took our order for two Roast Beef lunches and both cooked well done.         That's all very positive but then the food arrived!
Both Roast Beefs were cooked medium rare and everything on the plate was cold.    I had a go at cutting the Broccoli but had to give up as I just couldn't cut it.      I ate a small portion of the meat and veg but it was disgusting and gave up as  did Mrs H.    We complained to the waitress and asked for the bill which we paid in full.
The problem was only in the kitchen but the cooking and quality of the food made it the worst Sunday dinner we have ever had.   We have never ever complained about food before but this time something needed saying.    One thing for certain is that we'll never go back there again

THE OWNERS of a popular café on the Great Orme have bid the shop a final farewell after 20 years.

Rest and Be Thankful Coffee Shop, close to the lighthouse on Marine Drive, will change hands this month after 20 years.

The coffee shop was built in 1908, and acted as a refreshment facility for walkers until its use as a coffee shop from 1962 onwards.

Changing hands several times in the years since, the café has grown from a simple shack to a popular coffee shop which has hosted music events, parties and gatherings..............  https://www.northwalespioneer.co.uk/news/25103864.much-loved-cafe-llandudnos-great-orme-changes-hands/

Review of The Toad, Colwyn Bay, on the North Wales coas

We have always enjoyed our meals at The Toad and will continue to go there as it's a nice experience.
Unlike the Hayloft in Bodnant where I had the worst Sunday lunch I've ever had in my life.    The food was cold and I   couldn't even cut the Broccoli as it was so hard.   We only ate a very small amount and left the rest it was that disgusting.       I hope a review is done on that restaurant

'Never seen anything like it' - YouTuber BeardMeatsFood accepts monster hot dog dare in North Wales
Britain's most famous competitive eater thought the challenge would be easy

I seem to remember this guy competing an eating challenge in Ann's Cafe in Mochdre in recent years.    It was a breakfast challenge to eat eight of everything eggs, sausages, rashers of Bacon, Tomatoes, Hash Browns, Black Pudding, toast  etc etc and it cost £30.00.
The challenge was to eat all that in less than 30 minutes and you get it free!
