A RESTAURANT in Llandudno has been named as a finalist for the best restaurant in Wales prize at this year?s Italian Awards.
Mamma Rosa, based at 11 Mostyn Avenue, will discover if it wins the award at a ceremony at The Queens Hotel in Leeds on Sunday (October 8).

The family-run Italian business is run by couple Sam and Rebecca Ricketts, and not only serves a selection of pizzas and pastas, but also afternoon tea.

Sam and Rebecca took on the business not long before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Mamma Rosa said: Well, what can we say... apart from a big thank you to all who voted for us!

And a massive thank you to all of the staff for their unbelievably hard work that they have put in to help us along the way. Let's see what happens

I had a very tasty breakfast in Talgoed Nursery Glan Conwy this morning.   The price had risen to ?4.00 since our last visit but it is still a bargain.   Delicious food, very friendly staff and a nice atmosphere no wonder the place was full, we'll be back there again next week

A LIVE music and magic bar in Llandudno said they are ?very grateful? to have been nominated for two tourism awards.

The Magic Bar Live, on Clonmel Street, has been shortlisted for the final of two categories, ?New Tourism Business of the Year award? and the ?Resilience and Innovation Award?, at the Go North Wales Tourism Awards.

The winners will be announced on November 23, but the establishment?s two nominations surely bode well ahead of the ceremony.

Environment: What will plastic ban mean for takeaway prices?

Kebab shops along Cardiff's most famous takeaway street have said they are prepared for a ban on single-use plastics - but it could mean pricier takeaways.

Disposable plastic cutlery and trays are among the commonly littered products being outlawed in Wales.

Several traders spoke of a scramble in recent weeks to get hold of more expensive eco-friendly alternatives.

It follows similar bans in England and Scotland.

The Welsh government said the changes - which take effect on Monday - would help tackle "the damaging flow of plastic waste" into the environment.

A Welsh restaurant has been named the best in the country at a glitzy award ceremony in Dubai. The World Culinary Awards are held every year and reward excellence in the dining industry across the world. As well as overall global winners, awards are also handed out to restaurants from each country represented at the event, as well as a prizes for the top hotel restaurants in each nation. Experts and members of the public were invited to vote online to select the winners.

The best restaurant in Wales award was given to Signatures in Conwy, which also won the prize at the 2022 event, which was held at the Atlantis Royal in Dubai. The restaurant beat off competition from Michelin star rivals in Wales. The best restaurant in England was named as The Fat Duck, which is run by TV chef and personality Heston Blumenthal.

A BAR and bistro restaurant at a luxury lodge park in Conwy which opened earlier this year is set to expand by welcoming the general public.

The Swallow?s Nest, at Conwy Lodge Park, has been exclusively for park owners so far, but will open up to the public from Friday, November 24.

Based on Llanrwst Road, the park is situated among 100 acres of woodland in the Conwy Valley, overlooking the River Conwy.

At The Swallow?s Nest, the menu includes stone-baked pizzas, Welsh steak and vegetable pie, home-made Welsh beef lasagne, braised Welsh lamb shank, and more.

Its ingredients are sourced from across North Wales, while the bar offers a range of drinks from fresh barista coffee to cocktails and ales.

?The Swallow?s Nest is still going to be closed when the park itself is shut, in January and February, but will re-open to all again in March. It?s going to be a bookings-only restaurant.?

For more information on The Swallow?s Nest or on Conwy Lodge Park itself, visit: www.conwylodgepark.co.uk.

?We?re busy there with the park owners all the time. We do Sunday dinners, cooked breakfasts, all country-style sort of things.

A noted North Wales restaurant in a Victorian manor house has closed suddenly. The Manor Conwy?s website shut down abruptly just days after Christmas menus were unveiled and festive bookings taken.

The restaurant and bar, on the outskirts of Conwy town, is owned by the Gorse Hill Caravan and Lodge Park but it is run by tenants as an arms-length business. Park owner Rob Thomas-Evelyn believes all bookings have since been refunded but he pledged to personally deal with inquiries should anyone feel they have slipped through the net.

He said: ?The tenants had been here 18 months but they gave me just three days' notice they were leaving a week last Sunday. I understand the decision was financial.
