In 2017, Mull told me about a search and rescue operation he had been involved in and despite extensive searches by the Police, Mountain Rescue team and others they could not trace the body, bicycle or any trace of the missing cyclist Tony Parsons
Tony Parsons was killed by a speeding, intoxicated driver while on a 104-mile charity bike ride from Fort William to his home in Tillicoultry in September 2017. He had set out to raise money for cancer charities after being treated for prostate cancer. His body remained undiscovered for three years until his killer confessed to his girlfriend, who then revealed the location to the police.
Mull sent an e-mail to me recently to say that there was a documentary on Tony Parsons. It can be seen on BBC I Player under the heading of True Crime and is called The Vanishing Cyclist and is in two episodes
I watched it and found the investigation absolutely fascinating. I won't spoil it for anyone who is interested in watching it but the dedication and expertise in all those people involved in the case is unbelievable
The scenery is also breathtaking with rugged mountains and wild and remote moorland. when you see the conditions where Mull and all those other dedicated volunteers carried out their searches it makes me feel quite humble
It's well worth watching just to see how much time, effort and dedication goes in to each and every search and rescue mission
