I asked the lads who are converting the old "Butterfly Boutique" shop on the corner opposite Starbucks and the old North Western Hotel (Tudno Castle) what it was going to be and they told me  "an ice-cream shop and cafe".

Gwynant, I have been given to understand Fortes are going into where Betty's Fabrics used to trade from?

Yes Brian, that is what I heard as well.
I noticed that the small sweet shop between Starbucks and the Antique shop has closed. The sign said 'We are moving' but as I was driving I hadn't time to read the rest.

I think that Fortes is a Cafe which also sells ice cream isn't it Bri?  The lads didn't know what it was to be called.

Maisie's Chocolate Shop will be opening there in May.

"A cafe which also sells ice cream"

Just like every pub round here nowadays is a "restaurant that also sells beer"

North Wales public houses RIP - Wetherspoons done it, in the faux library, with a badly microwaved main course  &shake&

Or The King's Head or the Cottage Loaf (right next door!). Or The Albert.

Wetherspoons in a town will frequently kill off poor/struggling pubs but the myth they kill all pubs is false.
After all what is time, a mere tyranny.

I think that's very true. Their general lack of any ambience or real character will ensure a well managed rival pub with a bit of character can thrive.

You just named three pubs that precisely prove my point.

The Loaf and the Albert were Pubs at one time

I think the Loaf is infinitely nicer and more welcoming than it used to be. It's obviously gone for the Pen y Bryn look, but is all the better for it in my opinion.

Maybe it is, doesn't change the fact that it isn't a pub anymore.

They're just responding to customer demand, I suppose. Most people want a good meal with a drink these days, rather than just a booze up.

Aren't the Snowdon and the Loaf owned by the same people?

Yes, Stange & Co own them both.
