I've just found this job advertised on reed.com -

"We are looking for an experienced General Manager to open a new Branded Restaurant and Sports Bar in North Wales near Colwyn Bay.

This exciting American concept will be an instant hit so will require a Manager that has experience working with volume in a High Street Restaurant, Sports Bar or Bar and Grill. Experience opening a new unit would be preferable
."

Sounds intriguing.

The Castle View, Deganwy - bitter £3.75 a pint. No wonder it was empty.......

Was OK when it was Maggie Murphey's.  Unfortunately things change!   :D

Not only was the ale remarkably expensive, even NASA would not be able to find an atmosphere in there. It's one of those pubs that cannot work out what it wants to be, a pub or a restaurant, and the Castle  doesn't work on either count.

A good honest pub would make an absolute mint in that location. The Castle View is run by the same people as the Gladstone, and that's up and down like a fiddlers elbow, but mainly down.

How about recommending good pubs?

My top two would be the Red Lion in Old Colwyn and the Albion in Conwy. Mind you, we are talking proper pubs here, not eateries.

I think The Albion and The Snowdon are the two best pubs around; maybe its because I like a decently kept real ale and the fact that neither serve hot food so are full of drinkers and both are 'old fashioned' in a way which I rather quite like  :D

Plus, The Snowdon has a great little Darts room in the back.

I agree, The Snowdon is one of the best traditional pubs in LLandudno, & it does have a good atmosphere.
When I stay in the town, I always visit it.  Z**

Ive never been to the Albion, so I cant comment on it.
