Who stays for a week these days?
The majority (vast majority) are day trippers and/or caravanners.
They come for 4 hours max.
Those coming for the Balmoral come for the express purpose of going on it, then flee from the town within minutes of disembarking.
You have to talk to them as I do, to fully understand it.

I think a lot of people do stay for a week in most cases more. As proved in the amount of no vacancies signs on the seafront hotels in the summer. Problem is they are of an age where they either don't stray from the hotel or only as far as across the street. Even if they did go on the pier or to other shops they are not going to want to buy any souvenirs they've all been here about 900 times before.

Re the No Vacancies signs displayed on the hotels.

Nowadays, many hotels, large or small, do very few of their own bookings. Their bookings are all managed by the on-line firms like Booking.com and all the others, who are quite content to fill all your rooms, each and every night.................at a cost ! Thus it isn't wise to interfere with their methods, as if you double book what they have all ready booked, you are responsible for finding an alternative booking for the people concerned, under threat of a fine from the booking agency. Also you have no say as to who lands on your doorstep, they book a room and certain people arrive with far too many people to be allowed by fire regulations  One local hotel found a band of people smuggling !mattresses into their lift, thus to sleep more people in one room.
The whole thing is a minefield !

We saw a wonderful performance of 'Kiss Me Kate' at Venue Cymru last night, a highly polished piece of entertainment with a fabulous orchestra. A delightful evening.

I see that work has started to add the copper roof to the new Lifeboat Station - the sections already completed look very smart.

If a booking is made for, say 2 people, and 5 turn up, surely you would be entitled to turn 3 of them away?

People book on these sites by the 'room'. I would think because of fire regs. et al you would be, but a certain types of people are crafty. They check in and the owner goes back to their own part of the house. Then when all appears quiet they bring in umpteen children, or in some cases whatever/whoever they can pick up in town !! Friends booked in two women for the night and next morning two men sidled out whilst the women came down for breakfast. !
A CCTV camera system in the hall is essential, not only for counting people in, but checking as to what goes out !

These 'tales' do the rounds, but hoteliers have lost enough linen, including duvets to make them wary !

It's up to every hotel owner to clearly advise their booking agents how many guests are allowed, when the price is quoted per room (normally 2). If more than that turn up politely refuse the booking, as they will end up being more trouble than the bookings worth.

Another problem can arise when guests are shown to the backroom they have booked through an agent but insist they have booked a sea view room. Most hotels will only put a few of their difficult to get rid of back rooms on place like bookings.com
