When has it been any different Dave?Well, you are halfway up a pier mate!
I've been keeping records of my shop takings in relation to the weather per day.
As you know, my living is intrinsically linked to the weather (as is Mike's on his Golf Course)
My records show that over the last 42 days, there were only SIX which I could consider to be great weather.
The Great British Summer eh? ...and its forecast to be like this for a good while yet! :weeping:
Why are there 2 topics called "What's Llandudno like right now", here and in Ask a Local? ???There should only be one, really. Young Ian has been up to no good, I think. The Ask A Local one can be renamed something else and I shall do it now.
Young Ian has been up to no good, I think.
Trojan-dodgingI would never do such a thing, he's a good bloke.... <:<:<:<
There is a Hearse with a body in the back driving around town to promote the Rocky Horror Show at Venue Cymru from 20th - 25th Sept.

The old Ethel Austin shop looks to be opening as the Publishers Book Clearance or similar. They're looking for staff if anyone is interested. My suspicions were correct.... ;D
:) Burger King shop has a sold sign in the window, obviously this does not mean a new shop will open but its a step in the right direction. :oDefinitely. It's starting to look quite shabby now, so hopefully a new owner will refurbish the outside.
:) What take away is applying too open at 135 upper mostyn st.135 Upper Mostyn Street is the old Merediths Alternative Goth Shop, next to Home Cooking. Planning application is for a restaurant/take away with outside tables/chairs:
Perhaps its a Tapas Bar...
I believe it was bought by the guy wh owns the 147 club. Was it you that was saying on the old forum that he wanted to make it an entrance into the club, Paddy?

Ian, I take it you are not a lover of Spanish holidays then?
Yes, indeed. The phone caller (who is a member of this forum, he gave me his username which I knew well.) But noone else. But I was two golf clubs and about half a dozen balls short, gone missing. That was a chance I took. He mentioned seeing a group of youngsters passing his house, I cannot tell you where because I'm not certain he wants the forum to know about this. Anyway, I caught up with a group of youngsters in the area---one of them knew me by name and I recognised him vaugely from being from Tyn y Coed area. Anyway things were building up, I straight away said I would pay for the glass, but now it appears that the window is not easy to get at, the house is mega high. So, with his agreement, I called the Police. Also, whilst on the phone, I followed the group of 7 teenagers (I thought they were all in school, I wouldnt have left the clubs if I knew they were roaming at this early stage in the school year). They could see me on the phone, Police wanted a discription, (Of all seven?) they walked fast, I walked fast, they speeded up, I attempted to speed up (but not too much, I didnt fancy being set about by seven fit 16 yr olds) despite everything we all ended up by Weatherspoons---end of story, they split up and that was it. I was strongly tempted to go into Weatherspoons and forget about the whole thing!!!
A new business called "Stitch in." Rather a strange name to pick----too close to "Stitch up" for my liking.I may have got it wrong, it was certainly 'Stitch something'! ;D Its in the old Baxters Photography shop on Vaughan Street.

Hello again, especially Fester. I found your queries, sorry I missed the page. No, no more trouble, I havent seen anyone really. Ive got the two clubs back---a local spotted them in the woods overlooking Haulfre Gardens, more or less in line with the "attacked" house. What I think has happened, someone spotted my box with the clubs and balls )that idea of honesty golfing----thats been abandoned) They helped themselves as they walked down to Llandudno, when they got closer to town they just belted a few balls in the general direction of houses below and then threw the clubs away. It looks as if they were "shot" from outside my patch, but only just. As to cost of repairing the window, well I must remind you that the broken window belongs to a fellow forum member and reader. As soon as I met him I accepted full responsibility, I should never have left the balls unattended!!! Its in the hands of the Police now. You live and learn. As to the sheep, sadly, for them, the only place you will see them now is on the lamb chop menue in Fountains. Mike
:o I was told last nite that the rent for the old halfords store is 200,000 a year rent, that is serious money. :-XNo wonder its empty! :o
Gosh, I'm glad Fester didnt spot my mistake in my post.He would have had a good laugh. I should have written "Right hand drive bus." Everything that drives around Paris is left hand drive!!!!! It was only at 2 o'clock in the middle of the night I realised what I had written Mike
Nor is he brave enough to DRIVE around Paris.
Even worse, just yards away, the Arch de Triumph. That is a sight for sore eyes if you are driving. In passing I would just mention that it is believed by everyone that you are automatically uninsured when you enter this roundabout. When a bump occures (whivh happens many times a day) the gendarmarie take details (maybe) and both drivers are treated equally responsible. No argument, makes no difference who you are or what happened---its 50-50 and you pay half
Yes, it's turned into a beautiful sunny afternoon, Llandudno is packed with people. This pub is owned by Punch Taverns, 3 years ago my friend and her boyfriend had it. The rent then was £1,200.00 a WEEK! Thats without the top rate barrels and all other drinks etc you have to buy from them. My sums are written correct honestly, how can anyone hope to survive when realistically it's a weekend only establishment. They don't care if you fall flat on your face as, if you can't pay rent they set their legal rottweillers on you for breach of lease and keep your deposit etc which in most cases is on average £40,000.00. Punch falsify their accounts (they recently got charged in court for this offence related to leaseholders in England)
Fester pointed out to me that the Cable Car/Cabin Lift is closed yet again, yet it didnt seem that windy to me. :huh1:
The Gresham pub was also closed, has that gone bust again? :o

The old Passion for Perfume shop in the Victoria Centre is to reopen as The Perfume Shop.
Dave, did you notice whether they are using the same glass and silver display cases as were left behind before? They were very tidy indeed. They are using the same cases, as far as I could see. All that has changed is that new signage has been put up and the shop has had a clean! ;D

Speaking of cafes on Madoc Street-- is that Christian Youth place where the pancake place was ever open ?I believe it only opens on Wednesdays at present.
Even worse---there is a cinema to attract them out of townGood point, Mike! I always think the Palladium could have been refurbished into a luxury cinema and would have done well.
:'( Walking around town with the dog tonight made me realise how dead it is,then you think well what is there to do besides drink, drink and drink,no cinema to attract people into town . :rage:
You are not off the hook yet Fester we still want to know more D) D)I have the footage and it shall be displayed to all! Seriously, Fester was by far the best of the karaoke singers last night:

Some good work going on at The Grand Hotel this last few days. They also had a climber working from ropes, who was clearing out the top floor gutters. Rather him than me!
There was a cherry picker type truck outside during the week, , with a guy on the platform dealing with the weeds and other stuff growing out of various nooks and crannies.
Today, there were two men up ladders re-painting the balconies.
Not before time!!
Walking the length of the prom yesterday spotted the first few hotels with full Christmas decorations, trees etc. Get your present lists ready because it's not long until Santa comes calling! It's probably for 'Turkey & Tinsel', rather than Christmas itself. I've always found 'Turkey & Tinsel' to be one of the craziest concepts around, the idea of having a full Christmas/New Year celebration in less than one week in October or November:

I honestly didn't know "Tinsel and Turkey" existed. Amazing.
T & T weeks keep the town going at this time of year. And the visitors love them.

Lot of work going on to get the Past Times shop (formerly Bay Trading) ready for business. They must have had 6 or more people stocking the shelves today.
The surprising thing is how quickly it came, no more than ten/fifteen minutes from fairly calm to holding on for your life
Agreeing with CCBC and disagreeing with the Mighty Moderators is tantamount to anarchy ....
Anyone know why there are no "free range" poppy-sellers in town this year? Plenty of shops selling poppies but somehow it's not quite the same.Perhaps a lack of volunteers? People these days lead such busy lives that not that many people have free time to help out, sadly.

Indeed, we went from the Fat Cat to the Asia last night .. and as you walked round the corner into Gloddaeth St it was like a wind-tunnel.
The Paladium lookd like a massive sailing ship getting its sails ripped apart on a stormy sea. Like the imagery?
Seriously though, it was getting battered.
As a matter of interest, does anyone know how much it would cost to hire the theatre or arena? The Arena would cost you about £4,500 for the night.
its important to remember that the management don't book the acts, independent promoters do.
The problem is that most major acts are under contract to a major promoter, so you can't book them even if you had the cash. Add to that the fact that a lot of acts will not even consider Llandudno as it's too far out of the way. Add again the large fees charged by acts and all the ancillary costs that a promoter has to pay, like security, insurance etc and you are laying out upwards of £20,000. That's a big gamble to take, especially if you consider acts like Westlife and the Rocky Horror Show did not sell out.Quoteits important to remember that the management don't book the acts, independent promoters do.Being a promoter is a full time job, but it can be done by anyone who's sufficiently determined and has a good, logistical mind. But it's very stressful and extremely hard work.
8) Dave surely its the managements job to persue the promotors and promote the LLandudno Arena, even the franchise for the caterers cannot be happy with the lack of gigs, for the westlife gig there was no bar in the arena itself, leaving the 2,500 audience to walk too the ocean bar, what was that about. :rage:If the rent for the night needs to come down to help the town thrive so be it,going by the amount of people in the pubs last nite there will be a few closing soon. The buisiest pub we went to last nite was the Kings Arms and that was because at about 11 loads came in from the Motorhead concert at the ARENA. ££$I'm sure I was told that the bar in the Arena was not opened for Westlife as it was thought the majority of the audience would be under age!
You've taken the wind out of my sails a bit there Fester. I was just knocking up some Take That tickets on my laptop!Best knock that idea on the head, Paddy, Take That would want around £100,000+ to appear for the one show.... :o ;D
:( I hope dave that your not suprised, this is the buisiest xmas shopping weekend with the celtic fair being on and our council cannot bring themselves too put any of the town lights on,they really are not interested in helping anyone who is bringing people into Llandudno. :rage:
I think the big banner on the front of Wetherspoons is quite impressive:
The pedicure is done by little fish nibbling at your feet!! ???Hmmmm...something like this....
Been lots of birdwatchers around the Mostyn Champneys carpark especially around Aldi, old Halfords and B and Q as there was a flock of 50 or so Waxwings (V pretty little birds from Scandinavia). Friendly bunch too as they let me look thru their telescopes to get fantastic views. I only went in for some paint....... :)I saw a lot of these on the beach at Colwyn Bay the other day and was wondering what they are? I'm sure they're very common.
The pedicure is done by little fish nibbling at your feet!! ???
As some people may know, there is also an organisation (if one can use such a word) called The Llandudno Civic Council who claim that their main purpose is to monitor the efforts of the Conwy County Council and the Llandudno Town Council and to keep a watching brief on what they do and also their expenditure.I meant to reply to this post a day or so ago but forgot...
Whatever they are doing they must be doing it in total secrecy, as I have not seen sight or sound of any results of their efforts or any positive action in "monitoring" the two Councils, offering any suggestions, or even publishing any details of their deliberations or meetings. I am sure local Blogs and Forums would give them houseroom if they were interested in keeping the public informed. I, for one, would like to know what they are doing, if anything! >>>
The current Chairman is ex-Councillor Alan Guinn ably assisted by ex-Councillor Roy Gambrill plus a supporting cast made up of people from the town.Ah. The same Alan Guinn who is organising the 'Friends of the Happy Valley' group? I think it must be over a year now that I've been waiting to hear about this Group and what it's going to do....

Trying to work my way thru this new format, so different since I was in Aus :)I bet the weather is, too! :o
Must be the pressure that DaveR applied to the Town Clerk ! Y^^Y &well&It just goes to show a difference can be made through this forum. Its not all just coincidence, )*)&
I agree!
This Forum could definitely be a catalyst for a lot of good things.
There are lots of very intelligent and dedicated members (I don't count myself in that number)
Perhaps we could turn our combined focus on one issue....(a relatively small one like the Xmas lights, or a massive one like the Pier Pavilion) ... and not let go of it until some positive action is taken? Why not?
There is something to be said for 'pester-power'
Through the medium of the Forum, the chosen issue would stay in the spotlight and visible to all.
;) Guess what i vote for. :PErm........nooooo don't tell me!...I know this one......erm....erm...... L0L
I don't mind what name people use on here (if we had 10 Daves it could get a bit confusing) but, obviously, we would have to use real names in any communication with outside parties. :)I agree with all of the above and think there are some great suggestions, especially the Banner!
Some questions that need answers would be....
1) What problem building/site etc do we choose as the project?
2) What can we actually do to try and resolve the problem?
If I take the Pier Pavilion site as an example -
1) We could ask the local MP, Guto Bebb, to become involved.
2) The new Welsh Assembly member next May should be raring to go, get him involved.
3) Start an online Petition.
4) Start a Facebook page
5) Have a big banner made that said ' This site is a disgrace to Llandudno - Join us if you want to do something about it' and attach it to the fence surrounding the site.
6) Have an 'Eyesore Clock' on a website, that counts how much time has passed since the Pavilion burnt down.]
7) Ask locals and visitors what they would like to see on the site.
Make no mistake though, the Pier Pavilion is a very tricky issue to resolve. A private owner that doesn't want to sell, a Council that doesn't want to use its powers to acquire the site, a WAG that wont have much cash to give grants, and a recession that means private developers will struggle to raise any finance. Not being negative, just realistic. :)
I'm told that all buses from Llandudno heading towards Cowlyn Bay are being diverted along the A470 due to snow on the Little Orme/Penrhyn Hill.
It took me 25 minutes to get from Penrhyn bay roundabout to the bottom of Craigside.
Meter wasn't running was it Paddy? ???
Cllrs John Ridler and Mike Hold appear to be the Town Council's 'appointees'
??? Wot's a goin' on? The last entry on page 22 was: "Has anyone heard of them doing anything constructive for any of those groups? " and now we have a chat about rebellion. *&(
Fester encouraged me to give Wetherspoons food another try, so we popped in this afternoon. Within 5 mins of entering, a fight broke out amongst 2 'regulars' that resulted in police and paramedics being called. Burger was good, though...

My wife and I went up to Grandpa's grave on the Orme and there were some lovely icicle formations around Marine Drive. These were on the Marine Drive today:
The Burger was better than the fight... and lasted much longer.
Apart from the good value food, you have to admit it was a hell of a good shot with that crutch! WWW WWW
Merddin, I am looking forward to my £7.99 Xmas Dinner in there, one day next week .. with or without the floor show!
snakecorp, I liked that photo of the icicles. I would love to send a copy to my friends in Aus & tell them, this is my shower now. lol. I am able to download it from here??Yes, just right-click on the photo, then a little menu should pop up with an option to 'save image as' or similar. Save it to your hard drive and then attach it to your email to send.

At some time in the 90's Dr Craig Cameron, President of the Llandudno Civic Council, accepted responsibilty but in name only. What was the point of that, then?
aah thanks for that Fester. :P
If you accidently on purpose ran a goat over thus rendering it road kill, you could eat it I would think.
I'M JOKING OF COURSE L0L

Blongb, absolutely first class, and the RSPCA inspector. I doubt very much whether I could helped in a situation like this. I would be good at running for help, and probably that is about all. Unbelievable that the goat survived. What did the RSPCA man make of the fact that it didnt appear to have suffered any serious harm?Just because the goat ran off, that doesn't mean it didn't suffer any serious harm. A goat will do anything to get away from humans, even if badly injured. Remember that time when efforts were made to round up a group of them for rehoming, they jumped off the cliffs rather than allow themselves to be captured. Sadly, I suspect the one that ran off almost certainly died at some point later. :(
I have had the great pleasure of meeting both Nemesis and Pendragon.
They are both lovely and very forthright people......  Neither suffer fools gladly!
(You are both quite similar in that respect)
Different writing styles maybe..?
Anyway I won't hear a word against them....(because I am deaf)
Now...regarding the Goats, they are in my garden regularly and have decimated various trees / shrubs.
I would like to know one simple thing. Am I allowed to eat them? $dins$ $dins$ $hands$

If you look at all the pies that Trevor Hemmings has his fingers into the little blip in the fortunes of Six Piers won't keep him awake for one minute. He is personally reckoned to be worth in excess of £300m. Also the loss on Six Piers will probably be brought into a consolidated statement of accounts with all the rest of his interests and the individual significance will be lost. It's a little more concerning when you consider that, a few years ago, he was worth £1bn!
A friend who lives in town told me apparently there was petrol put through the letter box of the Cost Cutter by the Gresham yesterday by a disgruntled customer, is that true ?
I was told some "local nutter" was responsible he did it as he'd been barred or something. There's plenty to choose from! :o

I was in Mostyn Street today standing by the Traffic lights outside of M and S waiting for my wife and was looking at the traffic in the street.Amazing, total stupidity. :rage:
The lights were on red so a car travelling in the direction of Craig Y Don stopped in the centre of the road and then someone just undertook him and shot through the red lights and parked on the zig zag lines by the bank. They were just picking someone up with their shopping.
It was lucky that he didn't run over any one, another guy looked at me in disbelief but by the time I got to the other car he was pulling away probably blissfully unaware of the stupid thing he had done. :rage:
Dominic says your closing next month, bloody shame pendragon.Cartier I may get a bollocking for this from the moderators but I'm going to say what I think anyway.

Amazing the number of businesses closed in Llandudno today, there were a lot of people about but many of the cafes, bars and shops were closed.
Then the businesses will be moaning at the end of January that trading has been awful. Moral of the story - you can't take money if your business is closed. Mr Dickens knows this full well, his businesses are always open.

Am I alone in thinking that the streets and public areas of LLanduno are getting worse ?
I have to admit to being at a loss to understand why anyone would consider that the reintroduction of dog licences would do anything to stop dog fouling. There is already a £1,000 fine for fouling that is not enforced, so who would enforce new dog licences? The one, singular, Conwy Dog Warden?
Legislation does not work in anti-social matters, there is no-one to enforce it.
The only hope is peer-pressure and making it perfectly clear that dog fouling, like drink-driving, litter and bullying is totally unacceptable.

:) Jason while we are talking about railways ,do you know when the Llandudno railway project is going to start. :weeping:
Fester,
Your lucid simplicy and transparancy of vision is a lesson to us all to enable a practical and sensible solution to a problem of only minor irriation.
As you infer, we are taking this issue all too seriously.
The fact that it blights our community, affects local the local economy, spoils our enjoyment of our open areas and potentially blinds children is of course, of negligable consequence.
Not always possible Yorkie, how many of us have gone out of the house and then had to go to the loo in town? Same applies to dogs too
Whilst I am loath to disagree with a senior member of this forum,
There ARE too many dogs.
ps the modern funfair pays for the whole event.
Many thanks Jason,i have been trying to get any information for months and not one councillor bothered to get back to me,yet a Deganwy councillor comes up trumps, once again thanks.wrex,
I see the Cross Keys has new management again and the old Burger King store has lost its sold sign, thats a shame.
Problem is that if you rebuild the wall one day it will be knocked down the next. How much can CCBC realistically spend on continued maintenance in such circumstances? After all it is the ratepayer who meets the cost in the end. :rage:CCBC haven't spent one penny on it since it was renovated using Lottery Money in 2000! That's the problem - it's down to neglect more than vandalism.
:DWatching Michael Portillo in Llandudno on his train journeys BBC 2

How did I miss you people?--See my pics on What's on in Llandudno.
Not sure what the problem was (or is?) ... but the helicpter was supported by a van full of police officers and a patrol car too.
The vehicles were going between The Grand and the Happy Valley cafe area... and back.
The seabirds of all kinds were frightened by the helicopter and were swarming around squawking in the sky.
That big double fronted shop on Madoc Street that was formerly an estate agents (Was it Reeds Rains?) is now the new offices for Cartrefi Conwy. It was Reeds Rains (formerly Ball & Boyd for years). Good to see such a large vacant shop occupied.
January and February are pretty dismal months in Llandudno Wrex...I like being able to walk across Mostyn Street at this time of year almost without having to look if there's any cars coming because its so quiet.

It's quite normal for that sign to be blown over Fester. In any sort of a blow you'll find it rolling around the prom. Its happened at least 3 times before just in the time I've lived on North Parade. I hope the Council has the budget to get it repaired, otherwise we'll never know what’s on at Venue Cymru
Last night at about 10.30pm two fall pipes on the Arvon Avenue side of the Clarence were detatched at the top and were swaying and banging against the broken vent from the kitchens. Hope no-one was walking under there when they finally flew down. :oI thought I heard them clanking in the wind when I went past the other day.
It's taking so long you'd think Wetherspoons had contracted the job out to CCBC....

Just come off the Orme via West Shore-- quite breezy !!Managed to walk the pup, but had to all hang on to each other.
Also saw Simon Baker's sign, lucky it didn't hit someone.
Pipes at the Clarence at an even more perilous angle.Police and local councillor are aware, imagine something will be done as and when someone's car is damaged or worse.
Its time our Councillors faced reality. Upper Mostyn Street is one of the few areas of Llandudno that works. Yes there are a lot of eating and Drinking establishments there but that’s because there is a demand for them. I read through the list of objections on the planning website and if that is all they can come up with I can’t see it being refused. What's better a vibrant restaurant / takeaway business or an empty retail unit? ZXZ
there was an ambulance there but the car did`nt look too bad.was the ambulance badly damaged?
Planning Application tomorrow:
Code Ref: 0/37261 - 1. Change of use of Retail Shop to Restaurant and Take-Away 2. External alterations (rear yard flue installation & works to frontage) 3. Use of area under canopy for the siting of table and chairs for dining 135 Upper Mostyn Street, Llandudno.
I visted the site today and it is on the agenda for tomorrow's Planning Committee.
I was just wondering what local views were of the application to change the use to a Fish & Chips/Pizza Restuarant and Shop.
I have my views, but would be interested in Forum members views before tomorrows meeting, as I know Upper Mostyn St is mentoined quite regularly on the Forum.

;D Going back to the Mayor;s old hotel the Tudno Castle,
Cheers, mate. I thought this one featuring the Mayor could be used for one of Oscar's caption competitions....
It says in the Pioneer she owned the Tudno Castle from 1997 - 2001.;D Going back to the Mayor;s old hotel the Tudno Castle,
I'm a little confused here. Are you talking about Cllr Ann Yates having the Tudno Castle? I thought she had a hotel in Hill Terrace previously, and prior to David Owen having the Tudno Castle was it not in the ownership of the Devoys for some years?
Yes--exactly !
I noticed that Matelots club is open for business again.... I think Pendragon might be interested to know?Yeah the guy who owns the place is opening himself for the three days over the weekend. Friday - Sunday. He may have a local fella interested in the lease. I hope he does well.
Having said that, I don't think there is much gets past her...
Trouble is what are all the older folk at this end of town going to do for their medical supplies? Can't they use Superdrug, that has a pharmacy.
I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere Dave

That site has been there for ages. Most of the photos are taken from the Gallery here, Yorkie. I know that because specific images that I have resized, cropped, enhanced etc (and hence are unique to this Gallery) are reproduced on this other website, not to mention the odd more recent photo that I have personally taken.
Craig Ollerton also produced a disc of postcards of Llandudno, some of which were scanned from cards that I had given him. I have a copy of the disc, so access to these old pictures is not restricted by any means.
It could maybe do withbeing subdivided into smaller shops or a shopping arcade. Then fester could have one :)
I started it because i got P*****f with other sites slaping thier copyright/water marks all over the images and pictures, and then having the cheek to selling them to us .
I was just talking to Darren in Fountains and he said that Alworths was closing down. Thats a real shame

You are correct about this dog mess problem being off putting. Last summer I spent the first fifteen minutes every day cleaning it up. But whilst Ive been in India I have given it some thought.
There seems to be proliferation of drivers on their mobile phones whilst driving, etc etc etc Of course it’s not dangerous, and these people are so important that the law does not apply to them, plus the fact that they are too poor to afford a hands free unit.
I was in Cafe Culture earlier and a black Volvo (not the owners, before anyone asks! 8) ) was left parked on the bus stop for at least 10 minutes, causing all sorts of problems for the buses and passengers. A traffic warden arrives and starts to write a ticket. As he does so, a blonde woman runs across the road (maybe from HSBC), says something to the warden, he nods, she jumps in and drives off.

I favour Pedro's Cafe 101, small and bright, facing directly South and away from the road with easy parking. :D
Anyway, Fortes in Rhos is better than any cafe named so far! ;D
I have to stick up for Wetherspoons Coffees, its the Lavazza brandGood coffee depends upon two things....good quality coffee beans...and the correct preparation. Wetherspoons have the first bit correct.... ;)
Why has that lamppost not got a light on top of it :rage:None of them have, apart from a couple down by Bog Island and a few in Upper Mostyn Street. They were all removed when the present method of lighting Mostyn Street by floodlights above the shops was installed in the 1970s. There was talk of them brought back into use but it comes down to £££ as always. Most towns would be cherishing an original Victorian feature like that, Llandudno's are abandoned...
The Palladium is looking pristine $good$Yes, and I'm not quite sure why. $scratch$

I wonder if a one way system down the Parade and back up Mostyn Street (or vice versa) for all traffic could be the answer. :cyclist40:
I would certainly be interested in listening to Yorkie's suggestion if he is prepared to share it with us.I shall endeavour to commit it to a graphic format (a picture) and then post a scan to the Forum. Give me a day or so. ZXZ

The Great Orme Tramway seems to be going backwards (not literally) in terms of its financial performance:
In 2008/9, it had a turnover of £620,000 and a Profit of £30,000
In 2009/10, it had a turnover of £710,000 and a Profit of £21,000
they did have some accident repairs to do in the winter of 2009 / 2010 and if I remember correctly they stopped running after the accident on the upper sectionSurely their turnover would have fallen then, not increased? ???

We are so lucky living in the area we do. I'd hate to live in a city, I really would. Nice pics Fester ;D
Tonight after work, it was an idyllic evening, so Mrs Fester and I packed a bottle of wine and a picnic in the rucksack and off we went.
We walked up to the Orme summit, and then accross to Angelsea Road back via the narrow paths high up above Lys Helig Drive.
As the sun set, we were counting our blessings, and I took these pictures of the sun going down from the vantage point of our picnic spot.
Today a bloke is playing the bagpipes outside St. John's church.

Several of the town's miscreants were caged this afternoon at the pier entrance in aid of St. Davids Hospice and were only released when they had raised enough money for the charity. Amongst those visible are the Pier Manager, Conservative AM candidate Janet Finch-Saunders, The Manager of the Imperial Hotel, The Manager of Bodyshop, The Headmaster of Ysgol San Sior, The Manager of the Afon Conwy, The Mayor of Llandudno... Fair play to them all for being sporting enough to take part.Correction : The Manager of Imperial Hotel wasn't present, it was the Manager of The Marine Hotel, Llandudno ( Marcus Williams)

Mostyn Street from North Western Gardens to Trinity Square West and all side roads around Trinity Church (trinity west, east, south) will be closed from midnight tonight.

I noticed that one of the empty shops in Madoc Street has been taken and is to become ACME Games.
This race, without a doubt, has been very badly organised.
As this town drpends on tourism why on earth wssn't the Tourist Information Office open on Sunday? There were piles of confused people going up to the Library doors and walking away disgusted. You'd think in the summer they would open. :(
McCarthy and Stone are seeking planning permission to turn Plas-y-Dre (the former council run old people's home) and the building next to it into a new development of retirement flats. The property is situated on Gloddaeth Street opposite Bryant and Hocknell. They are currently seeking local people's views on the plans.I take it they're looking to demolish and rebuild? The existing buildings are not very attractive. There was a strong rumour last year that the Police wanted to move the Police Station there.
It's utter chaos in town at the moment - nobody has any idea which way they are supposed to go by car. Roads seem to be closed entirely at random, people are just driving around trying to work out which way they are supposed to go. This race, without a doubt, has been very badly organised.

I too am all for any events being brought to Llandudno, (I am a well known fan of the Exravaganza) ... just manage them properly, that all I ask. That's it in a nutshell. There have been many other such events in the past, none of which have caused the disruption that this one did. Poor planning is the reason why. Let's hope the Organisers learn from the feedback when they organise the next one.

Having read that article, my previous low opinion of David Williams has been fully confirmed, and surpassed. The man is blinkered-- he goes round to people in the hospitality trade to 'see if their premises are suitable to be part of the Llandudno Hospitality Association'. Look at his own--It would have fallen down if someting hadn't been done this last month.
Whether it be his woeful comments about what to do with the Pier Pavilion, or the less-than-edifying state the exterior of his own hotel has been allowed to fall into. I am constantly underwhelmed by what I see and hear fom him.
To say there has to be ''pain'' to get ''gain'' is a total nonsense.
All that is required is a modicum of common sense and rganisational planning.

It would be interesting to know which homes or businesses along the route didn't get a letter, if any, as this was a stringent and must do part of the organisers agreement with CCBC in order to get the roads closed. If letters were not received, then the organisers were remiss and should be taken to task over it. They were under no illusions that letters should be put through EVERY letter box on the 10 mile route. No exceptions.

There could be some mileage in that idea. I've always thought a monorail running along the prom, around the Little Orme (just above the waves) and into Colwyn Bay could be a nice idea.
On the point of wet weather tourist attractions. Let's not forget that the company behind the Rhyl Sea Life Centre wanted to come to Llandudno as their first choice. But the council being the council, turned them down, so they went to Rhyl, and Llandudno lost out. :(

They did try something similar in Rhyl many years ago but it never caught on and was pulled down after a while.

I heard the prizes went missing on numerous occasions. 8)
In a previous life, I used to choose the prizes for the Prize Bingo on the Pier. One thing I learnt was..if an item looked so tasteless that you wouldn't have in your house, then order lots of it. One of the most sought after prizes was a large plastic clock in the shape of a gold coloured elephant. It was massive and the clock face was located where the body of the elephant was. The curious thing was that the clock hands each had a butterfly attached - I never found out why. ???

When you think that the majority of the coach passengers are elderly it seems a travesty that there is nothing suitable for them to do.
The war museum will probably bring back unpleasant memories and all those machines in the local amusement arcades appear to be geared toward the younger element. (well, apart from one-armed bandits and penny pusher machines)

I wondered why the Police helicopter and Lifeboats were active so much the last two days... now I see why.No , but the Police dogs etc were combing the streets on Saturday night, we had the biggest German Shepherd that I have ever seen outside our front gate. Bonkers fun center opening soonIt's been open for years, Wrex, we call it the Town Hall.
:D Dave i expect that from Yorkie not you.You now as well as i do they really want to improve Llandudno, but hav;nt got a clue. L0L
No gripes, really, although 2.50 to drive round the Orme came as a bit of a shock.
Annual Season Tickets are also available at a very reasonable cost.

Good luck to them hope it's very successful

How do I get one of those?
Great photo Dave. Were you afloat to take it?Thank you. It would have been very pleasant to have been in a boat today but I was just on the beach by the paddling pool using a zoom lens. :)
Fester and I saw this odd chap on the Prom by the Cenotaph. He was dancing away, waving his tambourine about and either singing or shouting. Was he performing or just a touch loopy?

I maintain that he was definitely insane... apart from the tambourine and the ridiculous prancing, he had an Elvis T-shirt under a tweed jacket, and the worst comb-over I have seen in 20 years.
He definitely should not have been out on his own.
A tale of two towns....
Two photos are attached to this post; the first one shows the seafront gardens at Llandudno this week. The second shows the seafront gardens at another seaside resort, Eastbourne, this week. Can anyone spot any discernible difference in the effort the respective local councils make? _))*
Were you down at the other end of the prom Dave? There were some excellent cars to look at !
There was also a trailer enthusiasts meeting going on (er indoors made me put this on! I think it was something to do with the sailing dingys  )
L0L
I can see your Mrs in the shiny bonnet.... but I can't see you taking the picture!
Where you off further up the prom, dancing with your tambourine?

L0L no I'd forgotten my tambourine yesterday ; :P I carefully lined myself up with the central bonnet strip when I took the picture ;D
Have you been on a diet? :o
Doesn't need to ! He can easily hide behind the bonnet strip.
That is meant as a compliment M.E.!! ;D _))*
Just spotted Huw Edwards being filmed on the Tram up the Orme. Has anyone any ideas of any forthcoming TV series he might be making, that we can look out for?
Where has the pier gone?
Where has the pier gone? :laugh:Didn't you know? It's been sold to the Chinese and they have had it disassembled and shipped over to Fangcheng...

;)Iloved Daves picture comparing Llandudno and Eastbourne, just goes to show what commitment there is to tourism, were ever they can stop cutting grass or get rid of a few more flower beds then they will.the best example is the Llandudno sign in the Happy Valley, lets hope the FOTHV get flowers back in there for next year. The goats are going soft these days if they've started sleeping in tents. I do hope the tents are not the solution achieved to solve another Orme resident's short term accommodation problems for his builders :)L0L

Sad to see a spate of sudden hotel closures this week. Two have shut their doors, with a third on the brink. Tough times for the small hotelier. :(
Wouldn't it cost a fortune to create a tram network surely better ways to spend money to increase trade?
It would cost quite a bitProbably the understatement of the month! WWW Light rail systems cost a minimum of $15m (so say £10m) a MILE. You're looking at over £100m easily, and possibly much more. Remember the reason the original Tramway isn't still around is because it went bust due to competition from buses.
Light rail systems cost a minimum of $15m (so say £10m) a MILE.
Hmmm...how many towns of Llandudno's size have had a tram system built in the last 50 years?
Two things I noticed in town today...the Cashpoint at Lloyds Bank was out of action and it looked as though it had been attacked, the bit where the cash comes out was melted away. Secondly, there seems to be a Lifeboat launching trial taking place next to the Paddling Pool.
I saw the destroyed cashpoint too, all burnt out..... there was a sign attached saying ''out of order'' The most pointless sign in the history of the world I thought.
Oooh Bri I went on those cable cars a few years ago and the kids thought it was funny to rock the car..............needless to say I haven't been on them again nor will I. ;D Not even I'm that brave.
There was a lot of activity with the lifeboat going on just beyond the paddling pool on the Promenade today.
It's a new one they're testing. I think it's also to see if a Lifeboat can be launched successfully at that point, to see if a Lifeboat Station there may be feasible. There was a lot of activity with the lifeboat going on just beyond the paddling pool on the Promenade today.
Do they have a new tractor? I have not seen that one before. :)
:-[ So Mr Williams of the Hospitality Assoc has spoken up and what has he come up with,Llandudno needs a multi-story car park, who would spend millions in Llandudno on a car park ,hope someone tells him there is a new car park going on the station .
The amount of signs in hotel windows saying 'VACANCIES' in July is pretty alarming.
Before we spend all this money, it's worth nothing that car journeys are actually falling in response to high fuel prices. 30% of drivers have cut down on longer car journeys. This is a trend that can surely only continue as oil supplies diminish? Perhaps we should be thinking about building a bigger Railway Station instead? ;)

I somewhat agree with what you say but for a family of 4 it is still much cheaper (and more convenent) to travel by car! Before the railway comes back into its own, people will have to change their mentality about having a door to door service! ;)
There's always the Segway....
What about a horse and trap or ever a donkey
What about a horse and trap or ever a donkey
there's an idea, remove the horse from the trap and fit an engine! wonder if anyone's tried that yet? ^*^0
Just looking at their UK website. The main model, the i2, has a 24 mile range and top speed of 12.5mph. Would be ideal for the cycle track along the Prom! There's always the Segway....
As I said just the other day, I'd love a go on one of them
I note that Cafe Culture on Mostyn Street were recently refused Planning Permission to have strip lighting along the top of their signage. I can't see quite why this would be refused, being as practically every other shop in the area has illuminated signage? I understand that the chip shop next door (under same ownership) has also been refused permission. How odd?

I think some mannequin dummies wearing lighted miners helmets, strategically placed above the verandah may sway the council. 8)

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with the signage at either Cafe Culture or the Chippie next door.
It is tasteful, in keeping with the conservation area, and unobtrusive.
Methinks that someone is being victimised... :-X :-X
Yes, I have just read that news in today's edition of the Daily Post but it doesn't say when. Will be upgraded by next Spring.
Does anybody know the answer?
What about Rhos on Sea exchange (which serves Penrhyn Bay) ?No upgrade, as of yet. I get over 8Mbps in Colwyn Bay (which uses the Rhos exchange) and I find that more than enough.

Just seen 3 dead seagulls together in the road on the North Shore, very odd, were they poisoned?A suicide pact? Poisoned chips?
what about a free circular bus services - hop on hop off - like the one's operating in Manchester
Quotewhat about a free circular bus services - hop on hop off - like the one's operating in Manchester
We had a hop-on, hop-off bus service: Arriva tried one with open-top double deckers for two years, and eventually gave up on it, because it never made any money.
That was an overpriced tourist tour, though, rather than a transport service. It was far too expensive for anyone to use it just as a means of getting from A to B. A free or low cost (all fares £1) bus service operating at 20 minute intervals would be a different proposition.Quotewhat about a free circular bus services - hop on hop off - like the one's operating in Manchester
Missed this earlier. We had a hop-on, hop-off bus service: Arriva tried one with open-top double deckers for two years, and eventually gave up on it, because it never made any money. Never been quite sure why it didn't work. Possibly the concept needed better explanations, or perhaps the weather for the past three years hasn't been the greatest for travelling on open top buses. But something is needed. Apart from anything else, you need to separate traffic and pedestrians. However, any innovatory scheme is going to require investment, and that's rather thin on the ground just now.
I stopped on the zig zag road and as there was no one in the toll booth I drove around the Marine Drive for free. ;D

The Toll Booth at the bottom of the Zig-zag is never manned so it is now always free from this point to West Shore. ZXZ
Were you wearing shorts? If so I drove past you by the old tea gardens. If not someone else had stopped , got out of the car and was peering over the edge ! Got caught in that mist walking the dog, so cut my own walk short, now trying to dry the washing whilst the rain pelts on the roof.
Apparently, they're making a reality show in which 3 'celebs' navigate their way around the Orme and over to Liverpool using traditional methods. They filmed at the R & BT cafe, then were taken down to the pier, from where they were supposed to sail on a small boat to Liverpool landing stage. The show's working title is "All roads lead to home" and will be on BBC2.
:( I am not quite sure how many cuts have been made in the CCBC parks dept, but considering its the hight of the season our grass and flower beds have been left unweeded and uncut and it all looks a mess,Either CCBC parks dept are only concentrating on Conwy and Colwyn Bay or they have nobody to look after Llandudno. :rage:Very true, Wrex. I don't see why the Town Council can't save the £4000+ cost of the Civic Sunday event and spend that on enhancing the flower displays around town? Something that all the people could appreciate, not just the chosen few... $angry$

Several people have commented to me lately about the street traders that have appeared in Llandudno. First, there was the Jewellery guy often to be found outside RBS, now there is the Temporary Tattoos stand that wanders around Mostyn Street. I take it they are operating illegally, or can we all set up shop on the pavement free of any rent or rates to pay? At a time when CCBC is cracking down on legitimate businesses with a A Board on the pavement or a cafe displaying signage on its canopy, it seems a little odd that they are quite happy for the street traders to continue operating?

I was amazed to see the temporary tattoo man providing his service yesterday right outside M&S. He was almost in the place where the man normally stands with the Big Issue. The Tattoo Man and Jewellery Man were side by side outside RBS Bank today, I'm surprised the Manager hasn't asked them to move.
If it is illegal how they possibly could stand in such a prominent position?
...and i shall have a fleet of bicycles selling ice cream from pavement locations throughout Llandudno!
Nice to meet you and your family today, Barbiroli. :)Good to meet you also Dave, nice to put a face to the name :)
That's interesting, it's been used as hq for the clunk click software company recently. Did you see which estate agent it was?

Not really. :laugh:Lots of speculation amongst the crowds as to whether Prince William was flying the Helicopter
You mean they actually cared Dave? ???
Nearly took my roof off
Wonder if they could be heard in Trinity church?
And as to the balloons, sales were good until Easter Rantzon (if I have named her correctly) exposed it on T.V. and the sales instantly went pop.
Boxer Randolph Turpin named “Turnip” in leaflet error
RENOWNED boxer Randolph Turpin was famed for his prowess in the ring – but a new tourism leaflet calls him a turnip.
The misspelling is on a promotional leaflet produced by Llandudno Attractions Consortium. Instead of saying that the Great Orme Summit Complex includes Randolph Turpin’s bar, it instead trumpets the delights of “Randolph Turnip’s Bar”.
Bar manager Ron Jones was horrified when it came back misspelt from the printers.
He said: “I was embarrassed. We’d had 130,000 leaflets made and distributed and it was too late to bring them all back. The mistake has been made somewhere along the line.”
Tourist Dave Swanton spotted the gaffe in the leaflet. He said: “My dad had once told me about Randolph Turpin so when I visited the complex and picked up the leaflet, I thought it was hilarious.”
Mr Swanton, who is a BBC radio journalist and Sale Sharks rugby union club spokesman, is even giving the typographical error a light hearted mention on his programme this weekend.
Printers WO Jones Ltd of Llangefni said it works hard to eradicate all mistakes. A spokesman said: “We endeavour at all times to ensure any spelling mistakes are spotted and rectified.
“All art work is proof read to the customers and is signed off before going to the printers. If an error is found at a later date sadly this is beyond our control.”

Here's a view from the Great Orme today!
There was some sort of incident on the Orme earlier - the Coastguard, Helicopter and both Lifeboats were out on the curve before the Lighthouse.

Another area which the Town Council could chip in and do something useful instead of spending £4000 on Civic Sunday jollies for themselves.

Escape to the country on BBC at the moment. Just done a piece on Llandudno, the pier, St Tudno's church.
