I didn't  know about progress being slowed at the Craig Y Don Paddling Pool, I just thought that there was no progress at all and that the work had completely stopped.
That's a nice photo from Dave Pinnock and it's a shame that the paint "failed a slip test"        I wonder if they used the old paint, the one that was a Smurf Blue colour?

Developer's plan for Llandudno car park - and there are two things people don't like
The scheme would be built on a car park in the popular seaside resort

A developer is back with new plans for a key space in the centre of Llandudno - but there is already opposition. McCarthy Stone had previously proposed developing land at Maelgwyn Road car park off Gloddaeth Street - erecting 55 apartments for the over-60s.

From the NWWN:

Quote
McCarthy Stone said the development was designed to meet the need of people in later life and would represent the regeneration of a brownfield site

But it doesn't.

The UK says
Quote
Brownfield is land that is abandoned or underutilized due to pollution from industrial use.

The present car park meets neither of those definitions. But it gets worse. They add
Quote
?Additionally, our plans for Llandudno provide a valuable opportunity to improve the health and wellbeing of local older people, whist also supporting significant cost savings to the NHS and local social care services.?

For the first point (the health and wellbeing of local older people) where is the evidence for that? Secondly, if the site is for "local older people" how will they ensure these apartments only go to local older people?

Finally, the point about "supporting significant cost savings to the NHS and local social care services." is truly fascinating. Do M & S erections come with a guarantee of good health for their inhabitants? Because the only way to do what they're claiming is with a large helping of pixie dust...

Those are my sentiments exactly Ian.     What a load of Blarney, utter rubbish completely but will CCBC be fooled by such inane remarks?
This is an extract from their flowery application:-
Ciaran Aldridge, Divisional Managing Director North, McCarthy Stone, said: ?There is a real need for specialist retirement accommodation in Llandudno, and this proposal would go some way to addressing that, whilst at the same time releasing existing family homes onto the market and relieving the pressure to build on local greenfield sites.

I wonder if Ciaran Aldridge can produce evidence as to the location of all those family homes that were released onto the market from all those new residents in their other development across the road?

If I was a betting man, I'd put my money on Paddy Power that it's just a load of Blarney and that Ciaran has no evidence whatsoever
Sadly I believe that CCBC may believe this utter rubbish.

'Larger paddling pool signs needed after children grazed by anti-slip surface'
Three pools have reopened in Conwy and Craig y Don paddling pool is set to open before bank holiday

Are there going to be claims for compo on the horizon?     Pity they didn't put out warning signs for the blue paint when the pool was last painted

Which Bank Holiday, is it May or August and which year?

PROPOSALS to erect new apartments for retired people on the site of a car park in Llandudno have drawn criticism from residents and politicians.

A consultation has begun regarding McCarthy Stone’s plans to build 57 apartments at Maelgwyn Road car park, off Gloddaeth Street, after a similar scheme from the company in 2021 fell through.

Alan and Sue Elliott, who are aged 79 and 76 respectively, live on St Andrew’s Place, and said their property “backs on to the car park itself”.

Popular outdoor pool had seating for 10,000 people but is now lost to history
The swimming pool was filled with 800 gallons of water from the Irish Sea

It was only many years later that Llandudno had a new swimming pool and that looked more like a plunge pool in comparison to the Lido at Deganwy

Woman dies after being pulled from sea off Welsh coast
A major search and rescue operation was launched in the early hours of the morning, but the woman couldn't be saved

A woman has died after being pulled from the sea off the Welsh coast. A major search and rescue operation was launched off the coast of Llandudno at around 3am of Thursday.

North Wales Police, the Welsh Ambulance Service, RNLI lifeboats, and HM Coastguard teams, with the support of a rescue helicopter, were all called in to assist. The 57-year-old woman was found shortly after, and flown to Ysbyty Gwynedd, before being pronounced dead,

Detective Inspector Kris Williams said: “Our thoughts remain with the woman’s family at this time, who we continue to support. The circumstances of the death are not being treated as suspicious, and the coroner has been informed.”

Llandudno dubbed Britain's 'safest' seaside town where visiting 'is like going back 50 years'
'The older ladies still dress nicely. You can go out for walks after dark'

In Britain's "safest" seaside town, locals say it's like "going back 50 years". Overlooking Llandudno Bay, Llandudno is home to just under 20,000 people.

“Living here is like going back 50 years,” says Ray, 80, who retired to this seaside town almost three decades ago, reports the Express.

"You can go out for walks after dark. There are no rough gangs going around swearing and fighting.”

The seafront is the centre of the town, with a two-mile stretch of Victorian terraces intertwined with grand hotels between the Great Orme and Little Orme headlands. There are also a number of beautiful shops, restaurants, churches, and museums to explore.

Liz Westwood, 21, works at the Llandudno Pier Coffee Shop. “I came here from the Midlands, to live with my nan and, in a way, start again,” she says.

“You’ve always got the beach and the mountains. I get on with people of all ages, but there are young people here if you want to find them.”

THE new mayor of Llandudno, Cllr Michael A Pearce, was sworn in on Friday (May 24) in a ceremony held at the assembly room in Llandudno Town Hall.

Lindsay Pearce was also installed as mayoress.

Cllr Pearce paid tribute to the outgoing mayor, Cllr Greg Robbins, and thanked him for all of his work on behalf of Llandudno Town Council during his mayoral year.
