Llandudno fitness and body coach leads Great Orme walk in Take a Hike!

A FITNESS and body coach will be seen enjoying the great outdoors as she takes part in BBC2 programme 'Take a Hike'.

Zara Groves, of Llandudno, features in the series alongside five other hikers: Piers Braybrooke, Gareth Pugh, Mike Taggart and Laura Chapman. The programme pits the five hikers against each other to find Britain?s best walks.

Zara chose Llandudno?s Great Orme for her trek and a threw in a spot of paddleboarding "for good measure".

"I loved the show Take A Hike, it was just such an amazing experience, and I loved every minute of it," Zara said.

"The five contestants and I hit it off from the moment we met and literally laughed the whole time. In fact, we got told off a few times as we kept forgetting that we had mics on. The crew were absolutely amazing too, and there was so much banter and laughter the whole time."

Plans to keep tracking shoppers' mobile phone movements on Llandudno street backed
Some councillors have previously questioned the ethics of the scheme

It is part of a digital pilot project run in partnership with the Welsh Government, monitoring footfall on Llandudno?s high street. A report, which was backed by a Conwy scrutiny committee last month, details how the council will move forward with the technology up until 2027.

UPDATE

JANET Finch-Saunders, MS for Aberconwy, has launched a petition calling for the Welsh Government, Conwy County Borough Council, and Gwynedd Council to cooperate to offer a package of financial support to save the T19 service operated by Llew Jones.

Llew Jones has given notice to terminate the T19 service, which it currently operates between Llandudno and Blaenau Ffestiniog.

The operator has explained that termination is being pursued because the huge reduction in passengers since the COVID-19 pandemic, and no indications that the numbers will recover any further, has made the T19 increasingly financially unviable.

On BBC 2 Wales yesterday evening at 6.30 pm there was an interesting programme that had lovely shots of the Great Orme.   This episode showed Zara Groves leading a group of 4 other walkers over the Great Orme.    Tonight's episode is of a walk in Morfa Nefyn so that too should be of a nice walk in beautiful surroundings

Mostyn Estates update on former Llandudno M&S foodhall plan after Levelling-Up rejection
Conwy council's bid to secure money from UK Government towards the food, leisure and business hub failed

Mostyn Estates has responded after last week learning the Levelling-Up bid to support the transformation of the former M&S store in Llandudno had been rejected. Conwy council submitted three funding bids to the UK Government for a share of a pot of around ?2.1bn.

They secured over ?18m for a new cycle path from Llandudno Junction to Betws-y-Coed but did not get funding towards an expansion of Parc Eirias stadium in Colwyn Bay or a mixed bid that included the Marks site and work at Venue Cymru theatre in Llandudno.

Mostyn Estates bought the old main M&S site on Mostyn Street after the retailer moved to Parc Llandudno last March. They plan to redevelop the old store into a food, leisure and business hub in a bid to create a strong future for this prominent site.

Funny how Robin Millar has said it?s what the council wanted,  strange that the council put the bid in for the funding for the big M& S store and the venue. And Eirias park.  Him and the finch got for their mates.  Instead.

More details on the above.......

FINAL plans for a multi-million-pound cycle path between Llandudno Junction and Betws-y-Coed are set to be agreed upon by councillors ? and construction could start next year.

The route for the Glan Conwy to Llandudno Junction scheme will link the two communities by a shared-use walking and cycling path with onward connections to Conwy Town and Llandudno.

The consultation on a shortlist of options starts this week, with one option being a route via a bridge over the railway and a path through Conwy?s RSPB reserve.

The scheme will form the northernmost section of the Coast to Valley Active Travel Route.
At the southern end of the Coast to Valley is the second leg, linking Llanrwst to Betws-y-Coed.
This scheme could feature an improved river crossing for walking and cycling at Betws-y-Coed.
The existing footbridge at this location, known as Sappers? Bridge, is currently closed on safety grounds.

Like the scheme to the north, the council says this project will help open up the southern section of the Coast to Valley route.

The third scheme, Trefriw Resilient Roads, is a project that will provide a flood-resilient route in and out of the village.

Cllr Charlie McCoubrey, leader of Conwy County Council, was excited about the bid.
?We?re delighted that our transport bid has been successful, although of course we?re disappointed that the other two projects were not,? he said.

A spokeswoman for Conwy County Council added: ?Once we?ve received the detailed information about the funding offer from UK Government, it will be presented to councillors for consideration.   On how much they will overspend by this time ?

?Then it?ll be a matter of working on design, planning, consultation, and procurement over the next 12 months or so, with construction work provisionally scheduled for 2024/25.?

LLANDUDNO residents fear an 18m-high mobile phone mast will be an eyesore and reduce house prices.

Clarke Telecom is currently carrying out a pre-planning consultation for the 5G mast on behalf of network providers Three before they apply to Conwy County Council?s planning department.

If the mast gets the go-ahead, it will be placed on the grassed area at the junction between St. Mary?s Road and Claremont Road.

But residents living on the street say the mast will be an eyesore.

THE site of former Conwy County Borough Council offices in Llandudno have been put up for auction.    ref pioneer

The land at Builder Street is up for auction with Allsop, with a guide price of ?200,000.
It will go to auction online on February 9.

Planning permission for five light industrial units at the site was approved by Conwy County Borough Council in March 2022.

Details, courtesy of Allsop, said: ?The property is situated in a light industrial/mixed-use area of the town centre, fronting the north-west side of Builder Street and immediately south of the rail station.

?The adjacent site has planning permission for 77 dwellings.?

Indeed, another new development on Builder Street will feature 77 one, two, three and four-bedroom homes to cater for families and over-55s.

This scheme is part of ClwydAlyn's development programme to deliver a further 1,500 new homes in North Wales by 2025 at an investment of ?250million.

Update on the above post.........?  #8809 on: January 23, 2023, 02:31:42 pm ?

RESIDENTS are being encouraged to participate in a public consultation seeking views on the three shortlisted options for the active travel route between Llandudno Junction and Glan Conwy.

A list of 29 options has now been narrowed down to three for further consideration.

You can make your views known online and at the public information session being held at Church House, Church Street, Glan Conwy between 1-7pm on February 1.

Mrs Finch-Saunders said: ?When I was a cabinet member on Conwy County Borough Council, in 2004, having a cycle route connecting Glan Conwy to Llandudno Junction was recognised as a priority.

?After years of work, organising meetings with key stakeholders, scrutinising the Welsh Government, and corresponding extensively with the local authority, I am pleased that we have reached a point where the public are being presented with three options.

?We have reached this stage knowing that there has been significant demand by local residents and families for the route to be completed.  ??

?So, I hope that as many as possible will take the time to look at the options and share their views.?  ref pioneer

Mrs H, suggested spendind the 19million on a cycle path to Glan Clwyd Hospital..............  ;)

North Wales Police (NWP) said the VW Polo left the scene before officers arrived on the scene. Around ten minutes later, a black VW Polo overturned outside Llandudno Magistrates Court on Conway Road.

Four people were subsequently arrested. The victim was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd hospital, Bodelwyddan.

"A 48-year-old man has suffered life-threatening injuries,? said a spokesperson. ?He is currently receiving treatment in hospital.?
