A lot of sensible thoughts in this article......................

How Covid ghost town where goats ruled the streets is reinventing itself for the next decade
Llandudno landowner Mostyn Estates says the resort will 'go backwards' if it does not regenerate

A number of closed seafront hotels were snapped up and have reopened or are being revamped while the eating out sector remains strong despite the challenges.

Mostyn Estates recognised - even before the pandemic - that overreliance on tourism came with risks and has been working to help bring other sectors into the town, with some success. Meanwhile Conwy council has commissioned a 10 year regeneration plan for the town - with a report published that includes a raft of ideas.

Jon Merrick, business development, Mostyn Estates, said: ?The continual process for Mostyn Estates is about regenerating Llandudno. The former Tudno Castle, we brought that back to life, we are bringing the Drill Hall back to life, we are bringing the M&S site back to life. They take a considerable amount of money and time.?

Their focus on bringing other employment to the town has seen North Wales Training take on the Drill Hall while there are hopes of a second jobs announcement in the near future. An application is also in for UK Government Levelling-Up funds to help transform the former Mostyn Street M&S into a food, leisure and business destination.

CONWY Foodbank is set to relocate to a new home in Llandudno due to changes in rent at their current base.

The foodbank is currently situated at Spyce on Rhiw Road, Colwyn Bay, but ?changes? in renting costs have forced them to find a new home.

They will be moving to the Lighthouse Community Church on Great Ormes Road, Llandudno on December 9, and will be collaborating with charity Hope Restored and the Lighthouse Community Congregation.

Sharing the space with their partners, the foodbank will be collecting donations at the new site very soon.
Conwy Foodbank, and the Clothes Bank, are owned by the Sanctuary Trust, who also own several supported living houses across Conwy.

The foodbank will share a building with Hope Restored ?Bag of Hope' foodbank in West Shore, as they will be offering homeless drop in schemes and foodbank services alongside one another in the new building.

Hope Restored will be continuing to run their drop-in services as well as their daily food parcel service, alongside Conwy Foodbank who will also continue to deliver parcels and clothing.

Thant's a good one.

How about taking a drop more water in it .

I was expecting to get free drinks all night from my friend after his revelation last week but he was adamant that the info he gave me was correct as told to him
I may have mistakenly thought that the 6 men allegedly rescued and taken to the Hilton Hotel were Albanians but he said that the nationality of the 6 men was unknown
If it's true then you've heard it first on here.

Re: What's Llandudno Like Right Now?...New shelters
« Reply #8778 on: November 28, 2022, 02:31:27 pm »
CONWY County Borough Council has successfully secured funding via Welsh Government?s Brilliant Basics Scheme to replace two promenade shelters along Llandudno?s North Shore.

The project will replace two of the seven shelters on North Shore Promenade, opposite the St George?s Hotel and next to the paddling pool in Craig Y Don.

The current shelters are in poor condition, and without action they could be at risk of closure in the future.

The new structures will keep the Victorian design and continue to offer seating and shelter, with ample opportunity to enjoy the views across Llandudno Bay.

In future, it is hoped that smart elements can be added to the structures in the form of solar PV and laptop and mobile phone charging points.

Demolition of the shelters is due to start in early December, with the shelter by the paddling pool being the first to be demolished.

After demolition, contractors will assess the foundations of the previous shelters, with the new Victorian-style shelters expected to be fully built by March 2023.

I trust Mostyn Estates will also make a substantial contribution to this,  like they promised almost a decade ago.   After all they made no contribution to the street paving in Mostyn Street so they should be able to honour their promise with the shelters

It may go unnoticed with the beach as it is now but I hope the CCBC  don't knock the shelters down and put the rubble on the beach like they have done in the past

Re: What's Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza like in 2023
« Reply #8783 on: December 02, 2022, 10:27:26 am »
THE organisers of Llandudno?s Victorian Extravaganza promise that next year?s event will be bigger and better than ever, with a fringe festival to rival Edinburgh?s.

The Llandudno?s Victorian Extravaganza committee is holding a public meeting next week, inviting both businesses and the public to have their say on how the event can be improved.

The annual event regularly attracts over 200,000 to the town over the May bank holiday weekend.
But it is hoped that Llandudno?s Victorian Extravaganza in 2023 will also be a night-time event, involving multiple venues showcasing the arts.

Chris Williams, chairman of the Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza committee, said:  ?We are already moving forward with our planning for the 2023 Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza. That is going ahead on the 29 and 30 April and 1 May,? said Chris.

?What we want to do, and we want to do this working with local venues and businesses, is we want to bring new venues in. We want to almost turn it into a fringe festival.

?We want to take the event into the night-time economy and work with venues to put evening performances on from musicians, comedians, magicians, poets, the type of acts that you would probably see at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

?We want to be the first stop for those type of acts. We are talking to Arts Council Wales to bring a new element to the Victorian Extravaganza so it doesn?t just happen in the day so there is a new element that happens at night and focuses very much on the arts.?

?That is something we are going to be talking about next week and sharing our vision with people.?
The committee wants to hear the views of residents and businesses alike while the recent Christmas Extravaganza is fresh in the memory.

Chris said the Christmas Extravaganza, which is also supported by Conwy County Council and Llandudno Town Council, is growing year after year and said this year?s event was another roaring success.

?Last year I think we attracted about 17 day coaches. This year we had 40. People are travelling from outside the area who are seeing the area for the first time.?
?Last year we thought it was upwards of 30,000, and I?d be saying the same again. I think it has got to be pushing 40,000 for the four-day event.?

Speaking before Tuesday?s committee meeting, Chris said: ?The idea is to talk to the public and businesses and get connected with the community and with the local businesses.

?We want to know how we can make life easier, if people have got ideas, how they can get involved.?

The public meeting will take place between 6 pm and 8 pm on Tuesday 6 December at Llandudno Town Hall.

A very interesting and genuine video of the Llandudno area...............

'Most beautiful place we've ever been' - American YouTubers wowed by North Wales town
The YouTube video has been viewed nearly 140,000 times

A popular American YouTube duo visited a North Wales town recently and were enchanted by the area's natural beauty. The young couple, who go by the name MidWest Americans online, stopped off in Llandudno as part of a tour of the UK.

The husband and wife combo, who have amassed nearly 50,000 subscribers on YouTube, visited the Queen of Welsh resorts as part of a tour of the UK in which they also visited Eryri (Snowdonia). The pair hail from the state of Kansas in the midwestern United States and travel all over the world experiencing different cultures and challenges.

In this video, which you can watch below, the pair visit the pier, wander along the beach and go for a stroll along Marine Drive - an area that they described as "one of the most beautiful places we've ever been".

The 18-minute video, which has been viewed nearly 140,000 times, begins with the pair enjoying a meal at the new McDonalds restaurant in Mostyn Champney's retail park. They then head to the pier and the nearby beach before checking into their hotel - The Winchmore Hotel, situated on the promenade near Venue Cymru.

A driver crashed into a petrol pump on a supermarket fuel station forecourt. The accident happened just after 3pm on the Asda petrol station forecourt on Conway Road, Llandudno.

North Wales Fire and Rescue and North Wales Police rushed to the scene of the incident. Crews from Llandudno Fire Station and officers helped to make sure the area was safe. It's understood first aid was administered to one person at the scene but that no-one was seriously hurt, nor was there a need for an ambulance.

A woman was taken to hospital after a hit and run outside a Llandudno hotel. The incident happened on the evening of Thursday December 1, outside the Manor Hotel on Craig y Don Parade.

North Wales Police are asking for witnesses, or anybody with dashcam footage, to come forward. They are particularly interested in tracing the car involved, thought to be a white Toyota Aygo or Yaris.

In a post on social media, NWP West Conwy Coastal said: "We are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision in Llandudno. Shortly after 8.50pm on Thursday, December 1, we received a report by the Welsh Ambulance Service of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian outside the Manor Hotel on Craig y Don Parade.

"The car, which left the scene of the incident, is described to have been a newer white Toyota Aygo or Yaris. The pedestrian, a woman in her 60s, was taken to hospital.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident, or anybody who was driving in the area at the time and who may have dash cam footage, is asked to get in touch via the website, or on 101, using reference number 22000885565."

Council tracks shoppers' mobile phone movements on Llandudno street
The move is part of a pilot project to monitor footfall with the Welsh Government but one councillor expressed concerns about intrusion

The scheme aims to provide evidence to businesses and economic development teams on where people are going so it can help inform decisions on businesses hours or where investment may be needed in the seaside resort. But the news, revealed in a council digital strategy report on how the authority will move forward with its technology up until 2027, sparked a fierce debate when it was discussed during a financial resources overview and scrutiny committee meeting.
