A body has been found near Llandudno's Little Orme. North Wales Police confirmed a body was discovered in the Angel Bay area on Tuesday morning.

The force confirmed that the local coroner's office has been informed about the death. They also said they continue to assist the coroner with their investigations.

They said that the death is not currently believed to be suspicious. A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: "We can confirm a body was found shortly after 8.30am yesterday morning (20/12), in the Angel Bay area of Penrhyn Bay, Llandudno.

"The local coroner's office has been informed and we continue to assist in their investigations. The cause of death is not believed to be suspicious."

i had a misty drizzly Christmas day trip today (enjoyed it though!) but i noticed some of the shelters have been knocked down. Thought i'd ask on here if you know if they planning on knocking them all down? Even if it's to replace with new ones i'm still a bit sad as despite them being a little bit of a stinky mess i can still picture being in there on rainy days in the early 80s with my sister, mum, and gran! Nostalgia only goes so far i guess... though people do need somewhere to enjoy the view whilst sheltering from the rain  ;D

CONWY County Borough Council has successfully secured funding via Welsh Government?s Brilliant Basics Scheme to replace two promenade shelters along Llandudno?s North Shore.

The project will replace two of the seven shelters on North Shore Promenade, opposite the St George?s Hotel and next to the paddling pool in Craig Y Don.

The current shelters are in poor condition, and without action they could be at risk of closure in the future.

The new structures will keep the Victorian design and continue to offer seating and shelter, with ample opportunity to enjoy the views across Llandudno Bay.

In future, it is hoped that smart elements can be added to the structures in the form of solar PV and laptop and mobile phone charging points.

Demolition of the shelters is due to start in early December, with the shelter by the paddling pool being the first to be demolished.

After demolition, contractors will assess the foundations of the previous shelters, with the new Victorian-style shelters expected to be fully built by March 2023.

Explorers open up 'hidden world' of eerie tunnels beneath Llandudno that lead out to sea
After 37 years of clearance work, volunteers are nearing their goal of breaking through to an unexplored section of Llandudno's Ty Gwyn Copper Mine

On a grass verge just a stone?s throw from Llandudno?s Victorian Pier arcades lies a nondescript steel manhole cover. It?s always locked. The caution is needed, if only to stop the curious venturing into a lost subterranean world that is as dangerous as it is spectacular. Youngsters have died down here.

Llandudno is rightly celebrated for its scenic views but beneath its Victorian facade is another side to the seaside town. Miles of tunnels run beneath its streets towards the Great Orme and out to sea. All were part of a 19th Century copper mine that may have been built on multiple levels, most long lost to flooding.

Bumper turn out for Llandudno Boxing Day Dip 2022!

HARDY souls turned up to brave -4C waters as Llandudno Boxing Day dip returned following a two-year Covid enforced break.

The dip, organised by The Lions Club of Llandudno, attracted a bumper number of dippers as well as spectators who turned out in their droves to support the event.

Billy Baxter, Llandudno's Official Town Crier, who carried out the countdown to signal the start of the event told the Pioneer: "It is the first official Lions Boxing Day Dip since lockdown. Since 2019. There are many intrepid dippers that have registered to all raise funds for a good cause. Some are brand new to it and others are hardy stalwart that have been doing it for many years."

Crowds were seen gathered close to where the Welsh Air Ambulance chopper landed at roughly 2.30pm on New Year's Day (January 1, 2023) between the Llandudno Promenade and the North Shore Beachfront.

The medics were joined by officers from North Wales Police. The air-based support unit left the scene about an hour after landing. It did not convey a patient, witnesses claim, and returned to Caernarfon Airport.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson told the Daily Post earlier this afternoon that the teams were responding to a 'medical emergency'. No further information was disclosed.

Major search was launched after reports of missing 18-month-old baby in Llandudno
The search was stood down after the baby was safely located

A large police presence was seen in Llandudno tonight as a multi agency search was launched amid concerns for a missing toddler. The alarm was raised after reports that a young child in a pram was missing.

It was reported that a local police officer put a message in the area's Pubwatch group this evening asking for people to check their premises for the pram and 18-month-old.

There was then a major response involving multiple emergency services personnel, with dozens of responders on Llandudno promenade.

Fire, mountain rescue, coastguard and lifeboat crews were seen at the scene alongside Llandudno Pier to support the force in their search. The search was later stood down.

PS a social media rumour, someone got drunk, and went home, forgetting where they left the baby ?

I hope that there was a happy ending to that story.      I don't suppose that it was David Cameron again?

Street Angels set to launch in Rhyl, Colwyn Bay and Llandudno

A NEW project aimed at supporting those who are or could become vulnerable is set to launch at Easter.

The Street Angels project will see teams of volunteers working at night in various towns including Rhyl, Colwyn Bay and Llandudno.

The teams will offer support such as a listening ear, pairs of flip-flops to those unable to walk in high-heels, low level first aid and lollipops which help prevent anti-social behaviour.

Paul Blakey, the founder of Street Angels, said, "Street Angels started in 2005 in Halifax as a response to needs and issues on Friday and Saturday nights in the town centre. Within 12 months there was a reduction in violent crime of 42 per cent and Street Angels quickly became a model of best practice that has inspired over 100 local projects working on the streets, inside pubs and clubs, at music festivals, within communities and through chaplaincy.

Paul will be visiting North Wales for some information events where people will hear the Street Angels story and stories of the impact in towns across the UK. There will also be the opportunity for questions and answers and for people to sign up to volunteer and training.

These will be held on: Thursday, January 19, 2pm at Festival Church Towyn, 87 Gors Road, Towyn, LL22 9NR; Thursday, January 19, 7.30pm at Antioch Colwyn Bay, 20 Station Road, Colwyn Bay, LL29 8BU and Friday, January 20, 10.30am at Wellspring Church Rhyl, 102 Vale Road, Rhyl, LL18 2PD.

The need for Street Angels was identified in a ROC (Redeeming Our Communities) Conversation which was held in Towyn in September 2022.

The project is set to launch over the Easter weekend and funding has come from the North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner?s Innovate to Grow initiative. This fund helps support new and innovative ways of solving the problems that can often lead to criminal behaviour in communities.

It would be interesting to know how many brave souls volunteer for these roles. I hope this isn't the beginning of policing on the cheap. What happens of people are injured, or heaven forbid killed, when undertaking these duties?

This scheme was started locally in 2008  - DP ought to check their own back-numbers!  Presumably it was not an unqualified success hence the relaunch.
