Out walking the other day, I noticed this cast iron bollard was still hanging on at the Queens Road/Roumania Drive junction, amid the roadworks. Ivor Wynne-Jones said that it was actually installed as a water supply for washing down horse carriages, which must make it well over a hundred years old. Be a shame if it got scrapped as part of the pavement realignment for the active travel scheme.
Pole still there........
RESIDENTS in Craig y Don have warned that roadworks in an area of the town could make several roads “dangerous” for motorists and pedestrians.
An active travel scheme is being implemented in the Craig-y-Don area, with the project focusing on Nant y Gamar Road, Roumania Drive, Queens Road, Balfour Road and Clarence Drive to Clarence Crescent.
Works include a parallel ‘zebra’ crossing on Queens Road, an upgraded parallel ‘zebra’ crossing at Clarence Crescent, Extra crossing places for pedestrians, at Ysgol Gogarth and Ysgol Craig Y Don, widened footways and shared use paths, the installation of ‘Quiet Street’ zones and extra road markings, and “traffic calming” on Nant y Gamar Road, Balfour Road and Roumania Drive.
