Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza

Well, here it is again. I've just had a little walk through town and I'm fascinated by some of the machines that are being erected! I think it's about time we dropped the "Victorian" from the title as it clearly isn't anymore.

Love it or loath it I think everyone should agreee that this must be one of the major events in all of Wales and we should be proud of it.

If you are hoping to enjoy it, I hope you enjoy it. If you are hoping to make a few quid out of it I hope you make a few quid out of it. If you are one of the organisers I salute you.

Indeed Paddy,

I have family arriving for the Extravaganza, they will enjoy it no matter what the weather.  They always do, and I always do.
They will be spending in hotels, restaurants, bars, shops and my Mum cant resist giving to every charity stall and tombola.

Me? I'll be working every day.  Its not such a good weekend for me takings wise, but I honestly dont care... its good for the town in general.

Well done to the organisers.

Mr. Alexander was the best act, in my view. In the photo below, he decided to stand on a chair, that was balanced on another chair, that was balanced on a piece of board, that was balanced on another chair, that was stood on a table...whilst juggling knives!!

I sent the link to my mum who sent this reply,

She is lucky, she learnt how to use a computer aged 80! 86 now.
We take it for granted a bit but what a great way it is to show the world what a place has to offer with a set of photos like that.

Like a lot of people, I always like to moan about the extravanza and how difficult it is to get anywhere, all that hooting going on, and other grumpy old man stuff, but it really is a fantastic event and something to be very proud of.

Seemed a bit quieter to me yesterday, compared to previous years, but then it was a bit nippy despite the sunshine.

A big thank you to all those who put in such hard work to make this happen.

Here's a thought which occurred to me today. I was at Colwyn Bay Prom Day and saw that Tudno FM Community Radio were there. But Colwyn Bay isn't their community, Llandudno is. I don't think anyone in Colwyn Bay can even get Tudno FM, unless by Internet. Why weren't they at the Extravaganza?

It would be great if we could have a few similar acts dotted around the town for next year's Extravaganza, wouldn't it? He is exactly the sort of act people expect at the Extravaganza.

If you scroll down the page, you'll see that there is a long list of Corporate sponsors, maybe the focus could be on something similar in Llandudno to reduce the dependence on fairground rides and give the Extravaganza the cash to book a few more acts? I spoke to the Manager of one of the town's largest Bars on Saturday and he said that he had not even been approached to contribute this year.
