Robert, Thanks for that interesting link, it is good to see that the work will begin soon, but with climate changes I think they will have to think bigger and better and sooner.

PS
This mornings DP article on the matter...Llandudno sea defence work to start

Yes, thanks for posting that article Robert and I agree with what Steve has said but would go much further.     It's a complete waste of money as it doesn't address the problem in the West Shore that has been created by the Council's own making.
In the nearly 70 years that I have visited the West Shore I can't remember one single incident when the sea has breached the sea defence that was built in 1952.
I wish that the article had more drawings so that people could see where the  stop logs were located in order that they can see how futile this work is
Have CCBC had a grant or something and chosen to spend it in this way?       Can anyone remember when CCBC had a European grant and decided to build a cycle path on the West Shore?       It might have seemed a good idea at the time but they didn't consult local people and now that expensive cycle track is covered by about two metres of sand

Hugo,  there was an overtopping of the then new sea defences at West Shore on the last Monday of February 1967.  According to the paper (NWWN) at the time parts of West Parade were under 3' of water and the shelter island was quite literally an island.
I can remember this happening and it was due to gale force south westerly wind coupled with an abnormally high tide of just over 31'.

It was nearer 33 feet, from the admiralty records. If the pressure was low - 970, say - then that would have produced a significant dome of water.

So CCBC. Put this out to tender.  🤔. Who wins the tender. Yes the same company that have taken nearly 2 years to do the paddling pool and how long to erect the new shelters on the prom.  This is going to be interesting 😤

Thanks Cambrian and Ian for that information.    I was living in Llandudno in 1967 so I should have remembered that but didn't.
If my memory is correct the wall by the pavement had stop logs, like they had on the North Shore but often the Council didn't put up the barriers despite having prior warning of bad weather coming
I'm afraid that if you have an exceptional high tide and strong winds and a swell then flooding can happen despite the best efforts to stop it happening

This is a real eye opener for what the council are tendering for. if you use the blue heading on the left you can see future and past tenders and further down on the left contracts awarded

https://www.sell2wales.gov.wales/Search/Search_AuthProfile.aspx?ID=AA0389

with 6000+ staff why are so many outside contracts awarded...

Billions of pounds of taxpayer money have been lost to error and fraud in tax schemes designed to encourage research and development in business.

Critics say some companies are claiming the tax breaks even if they are not doing any research or development.

HMRC's latest accounts reveal £4.1bn has been squandered since the schemes were introduced in 2020. It said the levels of error and fraud were "unacceptable".

Welsh council's decision to axe half of county's public toilets to be reviewed

A special meeting will be called after Conwy Council said it would shut 19 public conveniences as some councillors say there was a 'lack of consultation' over the move
The County has a high percentage of elderly people and is also heavily dependent on tourists so this idea to close 19 toilets should be flushed down the pan asap

Future of North Wales council headquarters to be made at 'secret' meeting behind closed doors
Conwy Council's cabinet to exclude press and public as it rules on how to dispose of Bodlondeb
This should be interesting

Debate 'delay' over axed Conwy Council public toilets
The decision to shut almost half of the county's 40 public conveniences won't be scrutinised until just two days before they're set to close

Let's hope that the decision to close those 19 toilets goes where it deserves...... down the pan
