Re: Everything to do with Rhos On Sea.....dog lovers protest beach ban
« Reply #840 on: September 11, 2023, 09:39:21 am »
More than 1,000 people turned up on Sunday for a mass dog walk to protest banning them from the beach.

Conwy council wants to prohibit them on a stretch of sand between Colwyn Bay and Rhos-on-Sea.

It said it has had requests for a canine clampdown in three more areas.

The other proposed places are Penmachno Playing Field and from Rhos Point to the promenade entrance, opposite College Avenue, in Rhos on Sea.

Dog owners are up in arms over the plans.

Protest organiser Aaron Haggas, of Rhos On Sea, has a family of dog lovers and said his six-year-old daughter has become a "social butterfly" through her love of them.

Ban dogs from the beach where children want to play safely ... it does seem that (many) dog owners think they have the right to let their dogs loose anywhere, and totally disregard signs about keeping dogs on a short (not extendable) lead.

As a responsible dog owner I can see both sides of the argument and found these comments on the link interesting:-
"They claim it's due to dog fouling, but why not police that aspect more?and  From my experience I have never seen dog mess on the beach.

"I have however seen masses of litter, left over barbecues and cigarette butts."

Conwy council said: "We're inviting responses to this consultation - no decisions... have been taken.

I'm just hoping that the Council has an open mind on this matter, unlike the Cayley embankment when they invited responses to the one way system but then it turned out that the decision had already been made

I think on the Dry Beach it makes sense...............

Conwy County Borough Council is looking to extend a current 'Dog Control Public Spaces Protection Order' for the county [that expires next month] and add three new areas - the dry beach between Colwyn Bay and Rhos-on-Sea, Rhos Point to the Promenade Access Point in line with College Avenue and Penmachno Playing Field.

A HOTEL in Rhos-on-Sea could be converted into flats, after a planning application was submitted.          ref pioneer

The Danilton Hotel, at 18 College Avenue, would become five residential flats should plans be approved.

The 17-bed hotel, located at the former The Ashmount hotel site, is newly-refurbished, and is just minutes away from the seafront and the town centre.

The pre-application advice from the planning authority had suggested the site be converted into nine flats, which has been changed under the current proposal.

The plans to change the hotel, which is still in operation, has received approval from neighbours.

New Rhos-on-Sea disability respite centre opens its doors

The purpose-built, multi-million-pound Bron y Nant development on Dinerth Road, Rhos on Sea will help boost the care and support available for those with disabilities in Conwy.

Bron y Nant is home to disability respite services and an inclusive support day centre.

The respite service will meet the needs of people with disabilities and their carers for planned respite breaks.

There are five self-contained apartments and communal areas where individuals can join social events, if they so choose.

MUSICAL and acoustic equipment has been installed on Rhos-on-Sea promenade as part of the regeneration project in the town.

Children?s play areas have been placed along the seafront, with standard and ?sensory stimulation? equipment to cater for all children.

The musical installations include hand pipes (the curved tubes), babel drums and conga drums.

A Conwy County Borough Council spokesperson said: ?We have designed the play areas along the promenade to be appealing and accessible to all children.

A small price to pay for destroying a piece of local history...............

Why developer has built eye-catching feature outside some of Wales's most expensive apartments
Boat-shaped seat marks spot where sailor set off for the New World - centuries before Columbus

A new exclusive apartment block on the site of a former well known property is already a striking addition   :o  to the seafront. But a skilfully crafted sculpture is also catching the eye of passers-by.

This boat-shaped centrepiece at the multi-million pound development is a poignant tribute to an ancient Welsh mariner. The striking  cove-like bench in Rhos-on-Sea marks the spot where Prince Madoc is reputed to have sailed from Wales to the New World.

After an epic voyage, he is said to have landed in Alabama in North America in 1170. This was 322 years before Italian explorer Christopher Columbus arrived in the New World in 1492 on the first of four voyages to the Americas.

The boat-themed bench adorns the front of 12 individually-designed luxury apartments in a complex called Prince Madoc Cove on Marine Drive in Rhos-on-Sea. A plaque on the ground there has the inscription: "Prince Madoc sailed from here Aber - Kerrick - Gwynan 1170 AD and landed at Mobile (Bay), Alabama with his ships Gorn Gwynant and Pedr Sant."

A vote for an order to ban dogs from Colwyn Bay and Rhos on Sea beach descended into chaos when councillors alleged that the existing signs on the promenade were wrong ? misinforming the public where dogs can go.

During a heated meeting at Bodlondeb, Conwy?s solicitor called for the meeting to be adjourned due to a disturbance in the public gallery.

Members of the economy and place overview and scrutiny committee were set to vote on a new Dog Control Public Space Protection Order.

MORE THAN 100 planters and trees are being installed and grown on Rhos-on-Sea?s rejuvenated promenade.

56 low and raised planters and up to 75 trees will be grown as part of the ongoing coastal defence and promenade rejuvenation project in the area.

The almost kilometre stretch of coastline will see play areas for children, benches, new walkways and cycle paths, and new kiosks be built.

RESURFACING work that is set to start on Rhos-on-Sea promenade has been pushed back due to contractor delays.

Work on the surface, part of an extensive sea defence and promenade rejuvenation project, was due to start on November 7.

The council pushed this back yesterday due to the contractor being delayed on another job.

Work will now commence tomorrow (November 9).

This final phase of the project will see the The West Promenade/Cayley Promenade junction (the Colwyn Bay end) close on Wednesday, 15 November.    pioneer

Plan for shed near cricket club to help tackle bad behaviour - but members aren't happy
Bowling club members have also objected - but councillors have backed the plan

A shed is set to be installed near a cricket club in a bid to tackle increasing rates of anti-social behaviour in Rhos-on-Sea - but members are not pleased. Cllr Chris Brockley?s application to Conwy Council for a portacabin near a popular park was backed by councillors at a planning committee meeting at Bodlondeb last week.

The portacabin will now occupy the piece of land used as an overspill car park by Colwyn Bay Cricket Club off Penrhyn Avenue. With the cricket club to the west of the site, Rhos on Sea Bowling Club lies to the north east and a playground to the south east, as well as tennis and basketball courts close by.

RHOS on Sea Rotary's 24th Tree of Lights ceremony takes place this Sunday (November 26).

There are three ceremonies this year - in Rhos on Sea, Llangefni and at Llandudno?s St David?s Hospice.

St David's Hospice work with Rhos on Sea Rotary Club to offer the Tree of Lights event in Rhos on Sea and the Llangefni Rotary Club for the Llangefni event.

Tree of Lights events allow people to come together to remember loved ones that have died, whether at St David's Hospice in Llandudno or Anglesey or not.

head of Sunday, Geoff Price, of Rhos on Sea Rotary, said: "We particularly wanted to get the message across to the public this year, that they should gather on the Lower Promenade rather than around the tree.

"The top road above the Cayley promenade will not be closed to traffic and we are concerned about the safety of any crowds gathering there and spilling out onto the road, which will be carrying two way traffic.

"The lower road along the promenade, which is already one way, will be closed to traffic so people will be able to congregate there and less able people will be able to park.
