Llandudno named as the UK's number one seaside resort by TripAdvisor      $welsh$    clappinghappy

A travel website has voted Llandudno the best seaside resort in the UK and the fourth best UK destination overall.

Trip Advisor named the Conwy town as the number one seaside resort in the country as part of their Travellers’ Choice awards for destinations.

The resort beat the likes of Blackpool and Torquay to take the top spot, after the English resorts came fifth and sixth respectively.

James Kay, spokesman for TripAdvisor, said: “The destinations best rated by travellers are often those that marry value with great experiences, so it is easy to see why Llandudno – where the average room rate bookable on TripAdvisor is almost half the price of London– has performed so well this year.”
Some of the attractions which helped to clinch the seaside resort title for Llandudno included the Great Orme, the Promenade, and Llandudno Pier.

Just read this thread and I was immediately going to put a cocky message "and guess who is in third place in attractions after the great orme first and the prom second." But I hesitated a second. Better check where I am.
Just as well I did. I cannot even find it it is so far below every tom dick and harry of Llandudnos businesses. Not sure why this is but I imagine it is because I haven't had any reviews of any sort for six months. Not surprising, Ive been closed.
Must check up on the trams, They were always near the top and of couse they are also closed

Tourists flock to Llandudno for start of tourism season

LLANDUDNO was alive with activity over the Easter weekend.

The tourism season got off to a busy start - day visitors and holiday-makers packed into the town to enjoy the long weekend and enjoyed attractions such as the tram and roadtrains which had opened early.

Adam Williams, owner of Llandudno pier and director at Tir Prince Raceway, said Good Friday was a “excellent day” - which he put down to the weather, but felt the weekend forecast put off visitors and made weekend trade difficult.

Mr Williams said: “Tir Prince market took the biggest hit. Hopefully the weather is going to change later this week. We have made various changes to the operations on Llandudno pier which appear to have improved certain areas, but once again the cold weather has hindered the night time trade.

“A lot of customers have commented on how good the (pier) improvements look. I’m looking forward to what the year ahead brings.”

Berin Jones, chairman of the Llandudno Hospitality Association, said since Easter was earlier this year, it couldn’t be compared directly to previous years but confirmed that it had been a “good weekend”.
“Restaurants were busy and had a good trade as did the tourism attractions,” he said.

“The announcement that Llandudno is once again seen as the number one resort in Britain of course helped visitor numbers and is helping to attract bookings for the coming season.

“It is too early to tell what the Summer will be like. We now have a five week break until the next Bank Holiday so April may well be a flat month compared to previous years.”

Steve, that article conveniently side steps the fact that the Easter 'weekend' , i.e. Saturday and Sunday were a complete washout.
Storm force winds, driving rain and bitter cold temperatures may well force people to spend what they have in their hotel, Wetherspoon's or an amusement arcade.... but it's not exactly enjoyable for visitors is it?

Remind me to open yet another coffee shop, and pray for weather like we had this Easter.  &shake& &shake&

It also doesn't mention that people like ourselves are hindered in doing our daily 'chores' by people flitting in and out ! Easter Sunday we managed to begin our room servicing at a quarter past noon, despite requesting that we be allowed to get in there before 11am. The people in question would have been the first to mutter if we had employed staff and had had to cut short the time spent on bed-making and cleaning to fit with their hours ! ???

Certainly to judge from the...interesting driving on the road there's a lot of visitors around this week.

Especially on the Mostyn Champney's car park ! I left my OH in the car yesterday a.m. for about 15 mins and he was quite pale when I came back. Said he'd never seen such lousy driving and parking !

TripAdvisor puts Llandudno hotel in global top 10 eco-friendly list
Glascoed Guest House is revealed as one of the world’s best rated green hotels
The hotel is named alongside hotels from Belize to Brazil and is celebrated for its green practices.

Tripadvisor placed it third in its global list - only behind an Artist’s Inn and Gallery in Pennsylvania and The 4Rooms in Porto.
The Hilary Guest House in Llandudno has also made it on the Europe List, coming in eighth.

Glascoed’s environmental efforts include sourcing recycled furniture, using food with low food miles, automated lighting and 100% biodegradable toiletries.
Owner Berin Jones said: “We go that extra mile to be green and I am delighted that we have won this global award.
“We have made every effort to be green to the point of being pernickety.
“When it comes to food we make every effort to reduce our air miles, for example our butcher Poyntons is just down the road.”

In the lead up to Earth Day, the global celebration of the environment and preservation of the planet, TripAdvisor revealed ten of the best rated green hotels and B&Bs bookable on TripAdvisor for under £115 per night in the world, Europe and the UK, taking into account properties that have achieved Platinum level in the TripAdvisor GreenLeaders programme.

The TripAdvisor GreenLeaders programme allows travellers to filter and book hotels on the site based on the eco-friendly practices they have in place.

TripAdvisor spokesman James Kay said: “For those travellers who have considered going green when booking a trip but feared inflated prices, these highly rated hotels just go to show that eco-friendly travel doesn’t necessarily have to cost the earth as six of the world’s highly rated hotels are bookable on TripAdvisor for under £100 per night.”

Every two years or so, Visit Wales conducts a survey of visitors to Wales.

The aim is to try and understand visitors in more detail - where they come from, where they go and why they come.

Visitors from overseas as well as visitors from the UK are approached. This is what the most recent survey found.

Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza set to bring more than £3 million to seaside resort

The Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza will pump more than £3m into the economy of the region this weekend - and marks 30 years of boosting the resort’s tourism industry.
Started up in 1986 the event was created to give the resort a boost between the Easter and Whitsun holidays.
Over the years it has built up into one of the biggest transport festivals in the UK - with an estimated 300,000 going to the event at some point over the entire three days.

Kevin Chin, chairman of the festival committee, said: “There is a major economic impact for the town, for the hotels, B&Bs, cafés, restaurants in Llandudno , many are fully booked for the weekend and will enjoy one of their best weekends of the year.

“We appreciate for some shops, like say a furniture store, it is not the same but a study has found that the overall economic impact is around £3.5m each year.
“It is hard to quantify the exact numbers that come here over the entire weekend but it is estimated the total number in town at different times over the weekend could be up to 300,000.”

“The festival was started up by a group of volunteers and it was a low key affair to start with, with maybe a couple of thousand people attending.
“Over the years it has got bigger and bigger and more and more people have come to the town.
“Now this is one of the biggest transport festivals across the whole of the UK, it puts Llandudno on the map.”

It is not just over the festival weekend that the town benefits.
He said: “There is the immediate impact of the event with increased spending in the town and the area but then there is also the long term impact.
“Many of those who come like what they see here and want to come back again later in the year.
“This is the wider impact it has on Llandudno.
“We do think it has contributed to the success of Llandudno in recent years.”
The organisers are always after more volunteers to support the festival and to get involved email llandudnoextravaganza@gmail.com.
