Yesterday morning at about 9.30 we paid a visit to Cafe 121.
My feelings can be summed up as follows.
No, "Hello, Good Morning and Welcome." In fact totally ignored, but then again the place was busy with all of 4 people in the place.
No Menu but a note saying, "Order at Counter". 2 Cappuccinos and a portion of toast ordered.
Caps were fine albeit rather small cups.
Two very thin pieces of toast arrived at table a few minutes later, one piece being a "half" crust and both already with butter or marge on (Psychic staff?). No preserve as stated on menu, so asked and served with a very minute glass pot containing a small spoonful of marmalade (which was my choice, the marmalade, not the amount!). At £1.75 I considered it a complete rip off. The coffee at £1.95 per cup, reasonable for a good cap in prime location. I do not approve of loose unwrapped sugar even though in a covered jar, and think that preserves in sealed portions would be more acceptable than the open servings.
As we left I gave my usual "Thank you!" which was greeted with total silence as it it was a foreign language.
I got the feeling that the staff could do with some hospitality training and not treat a couple of white haired OAP's as if they were just here for a couple of days holiday and at least give them some civility and courteous attention.
I bet, had they known I would be penning this comment, the treatment would have been somewhat different, or would it? I have my doubts!
I will give them another try just to see if this was just a one off experience.
