There was a Great American Disaster restaurant in Chester years ago,  very good burgers in nice surroundings  in the days before McDonalds took over.

I remember it too - way back in my time at Crane Wharf. I had quite a few pleasant experiences in there back in the 80s. I seem to remember it was down Lower Bridge Street just before the Bear and Billet on the same side of the street. It was good food and a really good atmosphere - and the prices were very reasonable...

Remember, this is the 'American Disaster', not the 'Great American Disaster'.  ;)

It was definitely called the Great American Disaster, and was  in the area Ludo describes. It had  blown up photos of the Kennedys and the  Speakeasy  days on the walls and blown up newspaper cuttings. I was always impressed by the four different types of relish you would get  with your food (it was the 1970's!) and the prices were reasonable!

Would an "American Disaster"  restaurant be considered appropriate these days?

My point was this isn't the same business as in Chester, just someone 'borrowing' the name and changing it slightly.

That is interesting, DaveR, because I spoke to someone at the site yesterday afternoon and he told me the name of the business.

I then asked if the business a one-off or was it part of a national chain and he informed me it was everywhere in the UK and abroad.

I suspect he's talking nonsense. Do a Google search on the name in the UK and you will only find memories of restaurants that closed 30 years ago.

Seems strange wanting to call any business 'Disaster' what's the point?
