Oddly enough, when I visited Chester the other week, I noticed that a few of the proliferation of cafes and coffee shops that I had noticed on my previous visit last year had closed.

We can perhaps expect a similar situation in Llandudno in a year or so. In a situation like this, it will be the owners with the deepest pockets (or canniest marketing abilities) that survive. Those that are complacent will pay the price, sadly.

Hmmm...Hoosons Corner cafe...interesting....  ;)

Yes thats right there are a lots of cafes and small catering operations closed in chester over the past 12 months I agree  it will be interesting to see how hoosons corner will do.  As for the gimberts they will open next to the london who I believe are financially backed by a very large brewery who will no doubt invest if the need be . and they will also be opening opposite the fountain which we all know is owned by local business man and entrepreneur S D who will pour money into the fountain and cause both hoosons and gimberts a few sleepless nights.
mmmmmmmmmm..... interesting on both thoughts  ..only time will tell . I think as the economy tightens only the strong will survive.

Take a Break is always busy when we pass.

Expanding next door comes with an obvious risk but it seems the existing proprietors consider it a risk well worth taking.

I think the proprietors could still be two young local sisters and if so, I wish them both well.

Does anyone know what sort of cafe is planned for Gimberts (i.e. chain, cafe restaurant, more of a bar, locally-owned)?

Cant understand the seance here. Someone told me over the weekend that coony was pulling out of the bar opposite the Fountain.
So assuming this cafe bar is to become available at a passing rent of 22K a year completely kitted out with bar kitchen and everything licenced then why take on an empty shop with a rent of 20k a year and then spend all your hard earned cash converting it. some people have lots of romantic ideas but no common sence

I wonder how much a Starbucks Coffee franchise costs these days?

I assume they are a franchise.

Indeed. Cooneys was always far too small to be able to turn a decent profit, in my opinion.

All Starbucks are company owned, they don't allow franchises. They have taken a look at Llandudno though, I believe.  ;)

Perhaps, we should start a dedicated thread where members can name each and every venue in Llandudno where one can call in and purchase a cup of coffee.

I wonder if the list would grow above twenty.

That would be a big list, Bri, especially if you included all the hotels that are open for coffee for non-residents. Shall we give it a go?

Why not, DaveR?

You start the thread with the first six and I will do my best to add to it.
