It might be awhile until the grass is cut up our end of town. The poor chap who used to drive the lawn-mower died suddenly last week. R.I.P.

Llandudno has come out best of a "worst UK holiday resort" poll.  This may because far more of the people polled have been Brighton than have been to Llandudno?

Blackpool    16.3%
Bournemouth    4.9%
Brighton    39.3%
Llandudno  4.5%
Scarborough  14.3%
Skegness    15.8%
Torquay    4.8%

The fact Rhyl does not appear in the list renders the whole thing invalid, in my view!

It looks as if the Main Pool may possibly be.  _))*

Emergency closure: Llandudno Swim Centre

Saturday 23/8/2013: The pool and gym are closed today. Please call 01492 575900 for information about Sunday opening. We are closed Bank Holiday Monday.

We apologise for the inconvenience but all facilities at Llandudno Swim Centre have been closed due to a burst water pipe overnight.

We are hoping that the Gym and Training Pool can re-open on Sunday 24/8/2013.

It is anticipated that we should be able to re-open fully on Tuesday after Bank Holiday Monday.

The list is made up of holiday resorts so Rhyl wouldn't be eligible for inclusion  ;)

Actually the survey is probably flawed unless all the people surveyed have been to all seven resorts to be able to properly compare them.  I couldn't say whether or not Brighton, Bournemouth, Scarborough or Skegness are better or worse than Llandudno as I've never visited any of those places and whilst I have been to Torquay it must have been 30 years ago so it's probably changed since then.  I'm not even sure I'd say Blackpool was necessarily worse than Llandudno, it's just different so it depends on the circumstances.  The last time I went to Blackpool was for a stag day which was far better than it would have been if it had been in Llandudno (you can't beat going on the Big One at the Pleasure Beach after an afternoon on the beer  ZXZ) but it's not somewhere I'd want to stay more than a couple of days.

Calling it a 'survey' is perhaps a touch optimistic, as it seems to emanate from a hideously designed little website used by only a handful of people.  I very much doubt that 2534 people have voted, since voting requires you to send in an email and who could be bothered to do that? &shake&

As it happens I have visited all these resorts in the last 3 or so years, with the exception of Skeggie which was over 50 years ago and although the time spent in each resort was only a few days it was nice to visit them but I would have definitely not want to have lived in any of them. Each place was different in its own way but not one had the backdrop of Snowdonia etc. and it's various advantages. I realise that the folk that live in the H.M.O's would not appreciate those benefits but then I am probably biased in that I have lived here for almost 70 years and wouldn't have wanted to live anywhere else, (with all its faults and shortcomings!). I had a younger brother who had lived and worked in very many different and diverse locations all over the world, and he was always looking forward to retiring back here.
