??? Congratulations to the town council, they would rather see the hoardings around the back of Parc Llandudno instead of one new unit and an extension to another, braindead. The grounds for their refusal being no access at nite from that corner, its not as if any off them are leaving Broadway Boulavard and need the short cut is it. Why don;t the oldies retire and let some new blood on the council, people who realise there may be some jobs for local youth in these two new units. GGMS

Getting back to the street traders in Llandudno, I can speak from a position of having plenty of knowledge on this subject. I have known market type traders who would have given their right arm to trade on Mostyn Street, and I can tell you, you have NO CHANCE. The only way a trader MIGHT squeeze in would be on a forecourt privately owned---but then he would have to pay a very fat rent to the landowner, so much that it would'nt be worth his while. There are many local by laws which would stop any street trader, and, obstruction of any sort on a public pavement is definately no-go. The present traders  that have been mentioned will only last a day or two before they are seen off.
Why do I claim to have plenty of knowledge? Well for many years I operated a shop on Towyn crossroads the definate centre in North Wales of forecourt trading, legal, semi legal and downright illegal. Not so much now, lockup tiny shops were built to try and stop the hundreds of traders there in the 70s/80s.  I myself sold everything on my forecourt outside my shop--I also let off the rights to certain patches of ground for other traders. So I have had experience as the big bad landlord. I have also had the experience of being instantly arrested by a plain clothes cop in Liverpool for selling. wait for it, balloons. No stall, nothing but a pocket full of balloons and a large inflated balloon over my shoulder. Marched off to the Cheapside (thats a nick in the Pool), searched, cautioned not quite thrown into a cell but not far off, and an appearance in Court about five or six days later. I remember it was three days before Xmas, I thought I might get a bit of seasonal mercy. Fined £60  (in 1977, a lot of cash at that time) and a warning that I wasent to go back on the street to try and make cash for the fine. Mike  P.S. In case you are wondering the balloon was a con, I will admit to it.  The one over my shoulder was specially made and had wrinckles on the side and was around six foot long. The ones I was selling were, of course, uninflated and had wrinckles on. But you couldnt blow them up!!  But, they were only 20 pence and I was short of cash at the time.

Alterations and extensions to unit 6 to form units 5A and 6 on Parc Parc Llandudno

Llandudno Town Council – Recommend refusal on the grounds that it will limit pedestrian access for pedestrians from Craig y Don to Parc Llandudno.

Llandudno Town Council Planning Committee and the Full Council have, as far as I know, never had one of their recommendations passed by CCBC.  They are totally ineffective as a governing force for the people of the Town.

In London you have to have a street traders licence and also a licence to busk and if not you are moved on pretty sharpish.
Yesterday tatoo man was out and a rather good sicxpiece combo of what looked like south Americans outside the Alex.  Wonder if they could be heard in Trinity church?
No police around of course and we don't have bye laws inspectors any more so it seems anyone can come and screech out of tune or play the keyboards badly or beg and no one cares.

When I was in the Met we had lots of fun and games with the "barra boys" and their fruit and veg barrows, it was just one continuous battle.   The other street traders were mainly the "sell from a suitcase" brigade selling everything from nylons to perfumes.  Most would operate from close to the doorways of the big stores in Oxford Street and such.  We would go in the back entrance, remove helmet and come out of the front and nab them red handed!   Didn't make much difference to them getting caught, they seemed to regard the ensuing fine as their "rent".   _))*

The street girls at the time would get "nicked" for soliciting every month and their £2 fine was considered in the same way.  In fact if they had not been arrested for a week or so would come into the Police Station and "give themselves up" so that they could pay their fine.   It seemed to be a matter of pride with them to show their mates they were still working girls!!    L0L

Yes, and even above the sound of the bells before the service started at 10.30 both yesterday and a week ago.

Going back a few posts to Fester's response. No, I was'ent selling Viagra, nor even taking it------I didnt need it!!! Not quite so certain now, but---who knows, if the circumstances were right.  And as to the balloons, sales were good until Easter Rantzon (if I have named her correctly) exposed it on T.V. and the sales instantly went pop.
