Dangerous idiots at work here...........  $angry$

Hotel guests were evacuated from a town centre hotel late at night after a fire alarm was activated. Fire crews raced to the Travelodge on Gloddaeth Street in Llandudno shortly after 11.30pm last night after they were alerted to the alarm.

However, when firefighters checked the building they found no sign of smoke or fire. Pictures from the scene show a number of fire engines at the scene last night and a large group of what is understood to be hotel guests standing outside.

A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 23.48 to a malicious activation of a call point.   ref DP

LLANDUDNO residents fear an 18m-high mobile phone mast will be an eyesore and reduce house prices.

Clarke Telecom is currently carrying out a pre-planning consultation for the 5G mast on behalf of network providers Three before they apply to Conwy County Council?s planning department.

If the mast gets the go-ahead, it will be placed on the grassed area at the junction between St. Mary?s Road and Claremont Road.

But residents living on the street say the mast will be an eyesore.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS company ?Three? has decided not to pursue planning permission for a telecoms mast at St Mary?s Road/Claremont Road in Llandudno.

Clarke Telecom was undertaking a pre-application consultation for a mast that was intended to be 18m high; 8m higher than the average roof level in a residential area of Llandudno.

If the council had made provision for car parking at the railway station or the coach park, and closing existing car parks, short sighted as usual.

Introducing widespread parking restrictions could damage business in a top North Wales resort, says the chairman of its pub watch scheme. Conwy County Council has put out a public notice advertising a host of parking restrictions it hopes to introduce in Llandudno as well as in Craig y Don and Penrhyn Bay.

The restrictions include changes to the parking rules in the centre of Llandudno, including Mostyn Street, Abbey Road, Church Walks, Conway Road, The Oval, and Trinity Avenue, amongst others. But after years of Covid restrictions, Llandudno?s pub watch chairman Phil Ashe believes the town already has enough parking restrictions and fears tourism could be damaged.

Mr Ashe, who is also a silent partner in a prominent Llandudno business, was angry about the proposals, citing Conwy?s ?21 million budget shortfall as the reason behind the changes. ?It?s going to damage tourism in Llandudno, especially in terms of day trippers,? he said.

?You won?t be able to park anywhere without getting a ticket, and I think that?s what the council are hoping because the officers within the council clearly can?t manage the money as it is, so they are finding other ways to try and tax the public. It is not for parking reasons. These restrictions are being introduced because the council, over the last couple of years, have spent money on vanity projects.?

?The council have already maxed out on parking restrictions here,? she said.

?The one thing Llandudno needs now is to keep our high street free. The roads around here have seen far too many parking restrictions previously.

'Vulnerable' missing person found unresponsive after major search operation
Emergency services found them by the seafront at Llandudno

A "vulnerable" missing person was found unresponsive after a major search operation was launched. A police drone operator spotted the person near the seafront at Lloyd Street West in Llandudno during the early hours of February 8.

Conwy RNLI, Llandudno Coastguard, North Wales Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service were all brought in to help after the casualty was found conscious but unresponsive, with their condition deteriorating. They were placed onto a cliff rescue stretcher before being moved from the rock armour structure they were on to a safer position.

A Llandudno Coastguard spokesman said: "An initial survey of the casualties condition showed no obvious signs of injury so we kept the casualty warm whilst we deployed our cliff rescue stretcher. With the help of a number of police officers we were able to get the casualty onto the stretcher and to move them from the extremely dangerous environment of the rock armour groyne to a safer position.

Video shows moment police drone unit helped save life of 'vulnerable' woman
Emergency services found her by the seafront at Llandudno's West Shore

The dramatic moment a "vulnerable" missing person was found unresponsive after a major search operation was launched in Llandudno was captured in drone footage. The massive search involved Conwy RNLI, Llandudno Coastguard, North Wales Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service.

Emergency services were all brought in to help after the woman was found conscious but unresponsive, with her condition deteriorating. She was placed onto a cliff rescue stretcher before being moved from the rock armour structure they were on to a safer position.

A police drone operator spotted her near the seafront at Lloyd Street West in Llandudno on February 8 during the early morning search. The drone unit said the woman would not have survived if she had not have been found.

A Llandudno Coastguard spokesperson previously said: "An initial survey of the casualties condition showed no obvious signs of injury so we kept the casualty warm whilst we deployed our cliff rescue stretcher. With the help of a number of police officers we were able to get the casualty onto the stretcher and to move them from the extremely dangerous environment of the rock armour groyne to a safer position.

Re: What's Llandudno Like Right Now?....British Heart Foundation
« Reply #8826 on: February 14, 2023, 09:48:31 am »
THE British Heart Foundation (BHF) in Llandudno is asking people to 'have a heart' this Valentine's Day and volunteer.

The BHF Home Store on Vaughan Street is inviting nearby residents, who may be looking for something new to try, to take on one of the volunteering roles available.

The BHF is seeking people who can offer a few hours or a couple of mornings or afternoons a week.

"Through volunteering I have made many new friends and met some amazing people in the customers we meet."

Volunteers can learn and develop a range of skills, from telephone and logistical administration and help on the shop floor to sort stock. There is also opportunities to help photograph and list items for the BHF online shop.

Roles can provide transferrable skills for job applications and boost confidence, while also helping the BHF raise funds for life saving research.

For more information head to: bhf.org.uk/volunteer, drop into the store or telephone 01492 877023.

Re: What's Llandudno Like Right Now?...Bodafon Farm Park Closing
« Reply #8827 on: February 16, 2023, 10:30:08 am »
A FARM that has been popular with residents and visitors for many years is set to close.

Rumours have been circulating that Bodafon Farm Park, Bar and Restaurant is to close to the public towards the end of the year.

Now the attraction has confirmed on social media that they are in their "final year".

On February 15 they posted: "WE ARE OPEN! We are ready to begin our final year at Bodafon Farm 2023.

"OPEN Wednesday-Sunday from 15th Feb- 26th for half term holidays .

"Farm open 10am-4pm Cafe 11am-4pm.

"Residents of Conwy bring any proof of address and pick up a FREE 2023 pass.

"Admission ?3.50 under 3s FREE."

It is understood the closure is related to Bodafon Farm not being able to renew their lease with Mostyn Estates but this has not been confirmed.

New 'gateway' plan for Llandudno to ease congestion and wean people off cars
The scheme may be extended to cut car travel over a larger area of the town

A road congestion scheme planned for Llandudno will create an ?active travel gateway? into the seaside town. The project was one of the few to survive the Welsh Government?s Roads Review, published this week, but the green light came with a host of provisos.

Among these is a recommendation to explore measures to cut car travel over a larger area of the town ? possibly via ?parking management and charges?. Also advocated by the Roads Review is a new travel planning partnership for local business, retailers and tourism groups.

To encourage people to switch from cars to buses, Conwy Council is also being asked to reduce bus fares at peak times. All of these will then tie in with a redesign of the Links Roundabout on the A470 Conway Road that is planned already by the local authority.

A feasibility study has yet to be carried out by the council but, in principle, the aim is to modify the roundabout and provide an active travel route along Conway Road to the town centre. Links Roundabout is seen as a pinch-point for traffic heading into town but the Roads Review believes that sorting out the problems here, with 700-metre cycle lanes to and from Vaughan Street, will not be enough.

?To have significant impact, it (the scheme) would need to be accompanied by active travel infrastructure south of Links Roundabout along the A470 and the B5115, in order to provide a complete route to Llanrhos,? said the Review panel. ?This approach would recognise that the congestion at Links Roundabout is a symptom of a wider problem, and that treatment in isolation is therefore unlikely to be effective.?

A park and ride scheme might help but I don't know where they could put it.

To encourage people to switch from cars to buses

Perhaps, CCBC might like to start promoting the much underused 26 Bus Service called the Llandudno Circular as well as placing up-to-date timetables at all the bus stops on the 26 bus route, especially the timetable at the Summit which is nearly 10 years old and refers to the old 25 bus service.

Bodafon Farm Park owner 'overwhelmed' by response after announcing closure plan
The Llandudno farm park has been running since 1999 on Bodafon fields

Marc Roberts has put a lot of time and effort into improving the farm and I'll be sorry to see him go, not only from a personal point of view but I know what is coming next
Mostyn Estates Ltd is of course the owner of the farm and surrounding farmland and for many years it has tried to get planning permission for the entire farmland
What I expect will happen is that the company will say that Bodafon Farm as a working farm is not viable and will submit a building application for houses to be built on all or part of the existing farmland
I hope that I am proved wrong but time will tell

Brian,

One of the more brilliant CCBC decisions was to move Public Transport away from Community Services and put it back with Highways Etc. This took place under the Gareth Jones leadership and the cheer leader was the then Cabinet Member, Donald Milne. Having achieved this they then failed to recruit a replacement Public Transport Officer and, finally, subsumed the function into School Transport.  There is no longer any apparent CBC interest or involvement in public transport - except paying for the contracted services - hence the lack of road side information, broken timetable holders etc.  Don't bother making a service complaint about their wholly funded services (such as 75, 76 or 25) because they see no need to respond to, or engage with, the travelling public. Anger in Llandudno over 'anti-tourism' parking curbs but some say train holidays are the future
Conwy Council is planning to introduce parking restrictions on more than 50 roads in the resort

Tourists are likely to be driven away from a North Wales seaside town if planned parking curbs go ahead, residents have complained. Conwy Council wants to slap parking restrictions on 54 streets in Llandudno, Craig y Don and Penrhyn Bay but locals have warned it will affect the area?s holiday trade.

The council?s aim is to maintain traffic flows and improve road safety in a town that prides itself on being the ?Queen of Welsh Resorts?. But some visitors have already said they will stay away if they can?t access convenient street parking.

The parking plans are the latest to cause consternation in Llandudno. One car park is under threat from development and locals were left devastated by the Welsh Government?s refusal to underwrite the return of sand to the town?s main North Beach.

The Review Panel wants the local authority to explore ways of cutting car travel over a larger area of the town ? possibly via ?parking management and charges?. Llandudno Railway Station is also seen as a big opportunity to boost walking and cycling. Five active travel schemes are already in the pipeline, all connecting to the station, and the Review panel projected a revival in train tourism if rail services were boosted.
