An official announcement is now in the public domain and it's rather sad news to hear that Blind Veterans might be ceasing operations in Llandudno in a bid to save costs which I imagine are quite substantial. Discussions are being held to see what alternatives are viable but the future is far from certain and there will be cuts somewhere.

Quote from the article.....
A new 50p charge has been brought in which will impact families when the weather warms up and the pool gets busy. It will also be an extra cost for anyone needing a wee as they enjoy a walk along the prom.

When the pool gets busy, I suspect families will go one after the other, not allowing the door to close, and that could catch on with others doing the same..........not leaving much profit for the council, especially after paying the thieving vandals repair bills........ :o

King Charles III and Queen Camilla paid two “flying visits” to North Wales this week - but only the eagle-eyed will have spotted them. The Royal helicopter twice flew over the region en route to a two-day engagement in Northern Ireland.

The King’s Flight 1 (TKF1) was tracked by plane spotters flying north on Wednesay afternoon around 3pm. It charted a course over Denbighshire and Conwy before heading across the Irish Sea after flying past Llandudno.....https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/king-charles-pays-flying-visit-31250868?IYA-reg=49560bcd-5a9c-47f0-8fc5-ba2e71710589

AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a car hit a pedestrian at a residential property in the Llandudno seafront area.

Police were called to reports of a crash involving a car and pedestrian at a property in the Nevill Crescent area shortly after 3pm yesterday (March 25).

Police were joined by the Wales Air Ambulance, whose involvement at the incident ended shortly before 5pm.

The air ambulance then made its way to Royal University Hospital in Stoke, according to FlightRadar air traffic tracker.

Gutted to see not only are the paddling pool loos now 50p (which at least I knew about in advance) but that they are setting up 50p slots at the happy valley loos.  As someone who needs the loo more than the average person (too much info there!) I already worry about toilet access, and now this.
Also, my son (and me tbh) were gutted at the state of happy valley - metal barriers as far as the eye could see, I mean there had been some along the length where the storm had been for ages but now even more, even round the queen Victoria status bit. Plus that new huge Alice table is right on our usual blanket spot/play spot! And they've removed our traditional wooden rabbit statue altogether, and the old table. That combined with the fact that on West  shore they seem to be paving over the end of the grass by the car park - the end we always play football on. So all in all a day of "oh no....." everywhere we turned today! !!! Not been since Nov so it's all go it seems!

I went past the Paddling Pool in Craig Y Don this afternoon and Pebbles couldn't have been impressed when she saw it.          Barriers were everywhere because of the ongoing work with the sea defence.        I was quite amazed when I saw people having a coffee by the cafe because it's not a pretty site there at the moment
It seems that CCBC has shafted everyone, there's the cafe owner, the 50p charge on the Public Toilets and the ratepayers for that expensive dwarf wall AKA new sea defence
The Daily Post made a comment about the water in the Paddling Pool turning from blue to yeow as the season progresses but wee'll have to wait and see if that happens      ;D

Landmark convent building in Llandudno could be demolished for social housing
The site, at the foot of the Great Orme, survived the great 'tidal wave' of 1924

Wales and West Housing, and Enfys Developments, are proposing a new residential development comprising 30 energy-efficient apartments – mostly one-bed flats – and six assisted living bungalows. They’ve been designed by Deganwy-based Matthew Jones Architects, which said: “We have worked closely with our clients.... to create a well-designed, high quality, modern social housing scheme that makes best use of this vacant site whilst respecting the historic context.”
Let's just hope that they are only for people who live in the local area

Re: What's Llandudno Like Right Now?...... Blind Veterans closing
« Reply #9329 on: April 03, 2025, 11:27:52 am »
The Blind Veterans UK centre in Llandudno is to close at the end of this week with the loss of around 90 jobs.

It opened in 2011 and provided specialist support and training for former servicemen and women who have suffered from sight loss, either in action or later in life.

The Llandudno centre in Conwy county was temporarily closed in February while a formal consultation took place with staff over its future.

This week they heard the closure would be permanent, and the centre will shut officially on Friday.

A closing ceremony took place on Tuesday, at which the organisation's flag was lowered outside the centre for the final time.
