I think this one well and truly qualifies for "Room with a view!"

View has changed a bit today. Back in the mountains. First two early this morning and the other three about 20 mins ago.

Just returned from a few days away, visiting Blackpool and other various towns.

Here's a pic of the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool, isn't it fantastic?

I bet you got some great photos in Blackpool DaveR.
Good to see you back though, the forum has been a bit quiet!

It has an atmosphere all its own. To see the Wurlitzer rise up to the dancefloor is something unique.

I'd never been inside before and it was amazing to see the full size and grandeur of the Ballroom. They have the Ballroom Dancing from 11-4 daily and the Organist disappears into the stage at the end whilst performing 'Oh I do like to be beside the seaside'. Fantastic.

The Tower Ballroom used to feature regularly on Come Dancing and in all the Dancing Competitions.  It's a shame that such programs are now studio based.   ;D

My beautiful Aunt danced professionally in the chorus there, post war her company use to do shows in the ballroom and then run and change to do the circus below, dancing, amazing tap , trapeze and ropes etc.The dancers had to be versatile then. I think they were called the Tower Babes and had a very strict dancing teacher Madame Scholts., before she married and ran a hotel with her husband close by on Adelaide street.  She talked of many famous folk she knew Billy Cotton, Mike and Bernie winters Flanagan and allen as i was told as a child, and I vaguely remember if i have it right she had Ronnie Carroll living at her hotel whilst he was doing shows there. She emigrated to Australia and they ran hotels around Sydney, raised a family. A very interesting life. Having been brought up with my mum and their siblings in Stockport with frequent bombings during the war years.

Now the Tower Circus was another spectacle--- at the end the rink was closed/sealed and it filled with water!

I was in the RAF at Kirkham and would often go into B'pool to see my Brother who was at one of the theatres there.  I met a few "famous" artistes who were appearing in the same show.  The one that really stood out (sic) to me was Sabrina, who, of course, was a B'pool girl!

Yes i was told that by my mother who was the little sister at the time , she was allowed to stay every now and again with the dancers in their very strict accommodation and the older ones looked after my mum in their dressing room and in the wings when on stage. It sounds amazing. I think it would have been in the mid to late forties.
