Daish's Holidays have bought the Somerset Hotel for £1.3m. They are closing it between December and February for 'substantial renovations'.

MBi have now bought Caerhun Hall for £1m+ to with their portfolio of half the hotels in Llandudno, Plas Glynliffon, a number of care homes in various locations plus Llandudno Football Club.  They seem to have a bottomless money pit, hopefully it doesn't suddenly run dry or there'll be a lot of empty properties coming onto the market.

Apparently they (MBI)  have pulled out of the Plas Glynllyffon deal because they wanted to rename it  "Wynnborn",  which sparked local "fury and protests" from the local community.

Well if they don't want the investment over in Gwynedd then I am quite happy for us to have it down here. They obviously see Llandudno as a good investment and, overall, I am pleased they want to put money in the town. What they did to the Llandudno Bay was great, if only all the hotels were done to that standard! Hopefully the Belmont will be just as nice. And at least they have hopes for Broadway Boulevard rather than just letting it rot.

I imagine their address in England probably killed their prospects with the Gwynedd councillors and local campaigners...

Workmen in the Clarence are shoring up the ceilings, due to the ongoing subsidence.

There are still 34 rooms available for sale in the Harrison hotel[Queens],i don;t think they[MBI] seem to be doing much in the Heritage[Belmont] they seem to be lodeging there,as we know the re=opening of Broadway has been put on the back burner so im not sure what they are doing at the moment.

You are right about The Belmont, it is being used as a project office for MBi, plus it is in use as digs for their workmen.

Disappointing to see this....

Llandudno hotelier fined for fire alarm breaches

05:00, 22 DEC 2015
BY GARY PORTER

Court heard Nigel Williams of the Ambassador Hotel put both staff and guests at risk of harm by failing to provide a suitable alarm system

A Llandudno hotel owner has been fined for putting both staff and guests at risk of harm by failing to provide a suitable fire alarm system.

Nigel Williams of the Ambassador Hotel also admitted failing to maintain and service both the existing fire alarm and emergency lighting systems at the premises.

He was prosecuted by North Wales Fire and Rescue Service after safety officers discovered the hotel was not complying with the required regulations.

Williams pleaded guilty to two charges under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 when he appeared at Llandudno Magistrates Court on December 16.

He received fines and was ordered to pay costs totalling more than £8,000.

Stuart Millington, senior fire safety manager at North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said: “When business owners put their staff and guests at risk of harm from fire and fail repeatedly to improve their safety standards, it is our duty to work to prosecute those who fail to protect others and to ensure the highest levels of safety for the public.”

Fire chiefs say they will work pro-actively with businesses to ensure an adequate level of fire safety is achieved through its audit and education programmes.

It would at first appear to be a blatant disregard for the installation of a digital fire alarm system, which has been required since the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 came into force in 2006.

The installation in my own premises, which are a lot smaller than the Ambassador, cost me over £14,000 and there were no grants available to help with the financial burden this put on our business.

However it's not always obvious why someone would knowingly disregard the implementation of such important safety legislation but perhaps a look at the link below may shed a little light on the matter.

If I were to be cynical I might suggest that it's far easier to intimidate the smaller tax payer.
