I spoke to the lads last night, they were angry.... as their company won't pay the fines, and they didn't really know what can be done to resolve it.

They can - and should - appeal the fines (most are cancelled) but I wonder when Crown were appraising the job whether they thought to contact CCBC ahead of commencement to negotiate parking for their vehicles? The wardens would simply be doing their job, so it's up to CCBC to alert them, but if no one has officially approached CCBC then obviously the workers are going to pay the penalty. It's a shame, because with just a little forethought this could all have been avoided.

If the workers are directly employed by Crown then one solution is for them to find the nearest safe parking, then operate from there, carrying all their tools while simultaneously alerting Crown that the job will obviously take a lot longer until things are sorted.

You can't allow common sense to come in the way of any tenuous excuse to blame the council.  Surely the obvious solution would have been to drop off whatever equipment they needed (which they've got ninety minutes to do) and then move the vans?  I can't imagine it's the first time this company have worked in an area like this so what have they done in the past?

Andy.... this is LLANDUDNO!!   Where are they supposed to move the vans to????

The same place everyone else who works in Llandudno has to.....i.e. wherever they can find a space.  I worked in Llandudno town centre for more than six years and never expected a space right outside the office.  Sometimes I had to park quite a way off and walk back, and sometimes I realised I'd left something in the car and had to walk all the way back to the car to get it.  Such is the nature of life.

I can't see what's so special about these people that they should be treated any differently to anyone else.  I'm sure there must be people who work in The Grand who have to drive into work so perhaps they can ask them for advice?  Or otherwise park on the Happy Valley car park and pay £4?

Andy, the original point has been missed.
These people are somewhat special, because they are a specialised team of 'high risk' contractors, brought in to do something about that eyesore, The Grand Hotel.
I have lost count of how many people moan about it's dilapidated state, and rather than being the icon it used to be, it is now more of a blight on the town.
So, at long last something is being done about it..... and immediately CCBC conspire to put obstacles in the way.

Why would they have to park "a few miles away"?  The car park on Gloddaeth Street is only a couple of minutes walk away (for me at least but maybe these poor souls all have mobility issues and are wheelchair bound or on crutches  8)).

You might consider them special....I don't.  But then again I have no opinion either way about the Grand Hotel, other than the fact that it's a privately owned hotel so it's in not up to CCBC, or Conwy council tax payers, to take responsibility for any repairs to it.  These people are workmen who took a gamble by parking for longer than they knew they were allowed to and lost the gamble.  CCBC haven't put obstacles in their way, they've chosen of their own free wills to break the law and been punished in exactly the same way anyone else who broke that same law would have been punished.  They could have parked in a car park like everyone would have had to.

Personally I'm happy to see CCBC are upholding the law and their wardens are doing their job properly.   Just think of all those poor tourists with pockets full of cash who couldn't find a parking space because they were all being hogged by "special" workmen and had to go and spend their cash elsewhere instead.

Crown is an interesting company:

Quote
One of the benefits of using our company is that we specialise in rope access techniques to carry out high level inspections, building maintenance services and repairs which is very cost effective. If the use of scaffolding is required, we use suspended scaffolding or drop scaffolding so it does not affect the daily running of the building or impose on the public highway. Using drop or suspended scaffolding is also cost effective in comparison to a tower scaffolding from ground level.

Crown Services are extremely proud of our accomplishments. We promote total synergy between management and our flexible, multi-skilled on-site workforce, which has proven to induce a cross fertilisation of ideas that has been invaluable on pre-start project briefings.

It sounds as though they're well used to working on buildings with tricky access requirements. And they do promote "total synergy between management and (their) flexible, multi-skilled on-site workforce..."

In reality, the vans were using the 'Loading Only' area outside The Grand.
The area which coaches use to drop off / pick up passengers.

I didn't realise that Wardens had jurisdiction over those areas, but evidently they do.
Perhaps the workers were 'labouring' under the same misapprehension!

I was idly browsing the 1950 holiday guide to Llandudno and was surprised to see how many hotels all occupied the 'best position' in the town. I was bemused, however, to see that many claimed to face 'South', which includes the Headlands and the Grand.

LOOK: Take a tour of £6m Llandudno Bay Hotel

A hotel in Llandudno has reopened following a £6m refurbishment.
The Llandudno Bay Hotel - formerly the Regency Royal Hotel on the East Parade - has been revamped into a 61 bedroom chic boutique-style hotel, with a 90 cover restaurant.
There is also a champagne bar and lounges and function space for over 150.
The Daily Post took a tour of the new hotel which was opened by Spa Mbi Consulting Limited on Friday.

We all claim to be facing South Ian, because it's basically true. Being located at this end of the North Shore (0°) due to the curve of the Bay we actually face 160° a lot closed to South than North.

I've always thought the North end hotels look the nicer places to stay from the sunshine perspective.
