A hotel on Llandudno's seafront has been named in TripAdvisor's top 10 best places to stay in the UK. The Travellers' Choice Awards for 2023 were revealed today with three hotels from North Wales featured.

The Tynedale in Llandudno came in at number 10 on the list of the UK's best hotels, which is topped by London's Shangri-La The Shard.

The Elm Tree, also in Llandudno, was named the seventh best Small Hotel in the UK and Caerwylan Hotel, Criccieth came in at 14 on that list.

Each hotel has been selected based on its high standards having passed the reviewing platforms' "rigorous trust and safety standards". The data was collected based on quality and quantity of traveller reviews and ratings posted on Tripadvisor over the 12-month period between January 1 and December 31, 2022.

Llandudno seafront hotel wants to erect outdoor dining pods for guests
Llandudno Bay Hotel has proved a success since it was reopened by Everbright Hotels

An application is in with planners in Conwy for four of these pods facing the seafront. They said it would increase the viability of the hotel and not distract from the grandeur of the building, which dates back to the 1880s.

Energy bills: Hotels stuck in pricey contracts as prices fall

Hotel bosses have accused energy firms of failing to pass on lower prices, putting their businesses at risk.

Hotel boss Glenn Evans from Betws-y-Coed, Conwy county, pays 90p a unit on his 12-month contract although prices have fallen to 30p a unit.

Hotel owner Elyse Waddy, in Llandudno, faces paying ?200,000 more when her three-year fixed tariff ends in July.

The industry trade body said suppliers bought energy in advance and changes took time to reach customers.

Energy regulator Ofgem said it had written to suppliers to ask them to "show flexibility" with businesses locked into fixed-price contracts signed when prices were at their peak last year.

Mr Evans, operations director at the Royal Oak Hotel, said the fixed price electricity tariffs offered in October were a "shock to the system".

North Wales hotel and popular restaurant group among those named for breaking minimum wage rules
UK Government has posted a list of the businesses that failed to pay their lowest paid staff the minimum wage

Several Welsh companies are among a list of over 200 employers that are being named by the UK Government for failing to pay their lowest paid staff the minimum wage. Each of the employers were found to have failed to pay their workers almost ?5 million in a clear breach of National Minimum Wage (NMW) law, leaving around 63,000 workers out of pocket.

Welsh companies being named today range from hotels to a recruitment firm, in a clear message from government that no employer is exempt from paying their workers the statutory minimum wage. The investigations by His Majesty?s Revenue and Customs concluded between 2017 and 2019.

A LLANDUDNO bed and breakfast that suffered ?structural damage? is set to undergo a makeover.

Promen?d Bed and Breakfast, at 9 Mostyn Crescent, submitted plans to repaint the fa?ade and boundary walls of the Grade II listed building it occupies.

The building falls within Llandudno?s conservation area - development proposals within these areas must respect their special character, and are often limited by how much they can be altered.

The fa?ade of the family-owned bed and breakfast was last painted in 2016 by the previous owners, but the application to upgrade this has now been approved by the council.

The applicant, David Banks of Clavid Limited, said in the application that the current paintwork was ?flaking?, which was ?allowing water to seep into the render causing damage to the structural integrity of the property?.

The colour of the building will change from a magnolia-like one to marble grey, with white areas of the fa?ade to remain white.

The applicant said that the work would ?highlight the property and provide just enough colour to add depth and character to the building?.

They have also consulted with neighbours, who have raised no objections.   ref pioneer

Four floors of fabulousness by the beach

And from this eight-bed house there's more than a selection of beautiful beaches to enjoy, with the shops, cafes and restaurants of the town also within walking distance too.

The house is for sale for offers over ?500,000 with Dafydd Hardy, call their Llandudno branch on 01492 884484 to find out more.

A VICTORIAN guest house on Llandudno?s seafront is under new ownership

Michael Thompson and David Preece have managed the Can-Y-Bae for the last 17 years.

The hotel, which features 16 en-suite bedrooms, a spacious lounge, residents' bar and ground floor breakfast room, is a firm favourite with visiting theatre companies performing at Venue Cymru.

The property also boasts a studio apartment.

The accommodation was sold off an asking price of ?620,000.

Michael said: ?It's been an incredible journey. For 17 years we have had the privilege of hosting countless guests, many from the world of theatre, and have created incredible memories of great times at Can-Y-Bae Hotel.

"We are pleased to be able to hand over the reins to the new owners and look forward to seeing the hotel continue to thrive in the future.?

Neil Thomson, associate director in Hotels Agency at Colliers who managed the sale, said: ?The Can-Y-Bae Hotel was swept off the market within weeks, a testament to its status as a beloved North Wales gem.

"This comes on the heels of Colliers' recent success with the sale of Swn y Mor Hotel, earlier this year, which highlights how popular the region is within the hospitality market."    ref pioneer

A PUBLIC meeting was held at a hotel in Llandudno last week following a spate of alleged incidents of antisocial behaviour (ASB) in the town.

The meeting took place at 6pm on August 30 at Milverton House, on North Parade.

Gaynor Stanford, of Milverton House, said she called the meeting due to ?the kids that have been around town causing loads of trouble, and the police doing nothing about them?.

Among those also in attendance were Andy Dunbobbin, Police and Crime Commissioner for North Wales, and Inspector Catherine Walker, of North Wales Police.

Mr Dunbobbin said he sympathised with the hoteliers, whom he said are ?at their wits? end?.
He said: ?I am very grateful for the invitation to listen and speak with the hard-working Llandudno hoteliers on Wednesday evening.

?This is the second meeting in Llandudno I?ve attended in as many months regarding antisocial behaviour.
?I am also grateful to Inspector Catherine Walker for being present to answer any operational questions.

?ASB is classed as a ?low-level? crime, but the impact it has on communities, individuals and businesses is huge.
