'Fine the culprits' Mountain Rescue left stunned by ill-equipped walkers in -9C temperatures

The climbers were left open-mouthed by the ill-equipped walkers who went up Eryri's mountains in -9C temperatures - one party went astray because it followed a mobile phone "heat map trail" thinking it was a footpath

A mountain rescue team has pleaded with social media influencers to take greater responsibility when posting photos of dangerous climbs in Eryri (Snowdonia). In turn, the Llanberis outfit came under fire for posting its own video of a rescue from Yr Wyddfa’s notorious Crib Goch knife-edge ridge.

Largely, climbers and walker applauded the over-worked team for highlighting the way some influencers glamorise a location without fully accounting for the risks. At the same time, some fear that blaming influencers may absolve people of their responsibility to go into the mountains fully equipped and properly prepared....................https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/influencers-issued-warning-casualty-walked-30493302?IYA-reg=49560bcd-5a9c-47f0-8fc5-ba2e71710589

The main problem with web sites about climbing is that they're read largely inside warm, cosy houses, which detracts from their inherent dangers.  Crib Goch is a good example of showing something that is far from safe for inexperienced walkers and can present serious risks, even to the experienced.

In effect it's walking the rim of an ancient caldera (last active around half a billion years ago, so relatively safe, now  ;)) but successive ice ages have revealed the shapes and depths of the geological upheavals.

It's staggeringly beautiful from the Southern rim on a nice day, but you have to take care even so, and it's not a walk to take on a blowy day.

'Absolutely disgusting' as North Wales holiday hotspot left covered in litter
The rising issue of littering in North Wales has been emphasised by a recent incident at a popular

Why on earth do some people want to come to a beautiful place and then just spoil it for others, it doesn't make any sense whatsoever?

'It worries me sick, one spark from illegal beach fires could destroy our 2,500-acre forest'
Locals have been left terrified as the famous beauty spot becomes overrun with fire-lighting campers

I have a friend who is a Ranger there and they have a constant problem with some of the idiots who visit there

I started this thread back in July 2022, with 'Crazy' visitors abandon still-lit BBQ with burning, I see nothing has changed reading Hugo's post above............. and I think we were very generous naming the thread 'Unthinking Tourists'..............  :-\

I/We usually post stories of Unthinking Tourists in the walking section, which is unfair to genuine walkers, hence this new thread, by the way, I decided on this title after realising that Ian would not accept my previous headings, I am open to better ideas......

A local who found the BBQ believes it was lucky fire didn't break out in Gwydir Forest, part of the National Forest for Wales

Yr Wyddfa Easter parking plea issued to avoid Eryri chaos as car park fills up fast
'Planning on where you will park is also an important factor as we don’t want to witness dangerous or irresponsible parking like we have seen in years gone by'

Let's hope that all the tourists who come here enjoy what North Wales has to offer and park properly and respect the area.     Just in case anyone thinks that the law doesn't apply to them the authorities should have all their tow trucks on site

Signs on the A55 tell (ask?) people to use "park and ride" when visiting Eryri.
I wonder how many tourists know where Eryri is ... surely it would have been sensible to say Snowdon.

You've got a point DVT and it may be confusing to the tourists if Snowdon is not mentioned.           Let's see if the Tow Trucks are going to be in action again as the authorities have had enough time to get them ready for the weekend

'TikTok over-tourism' at Dinorwig Quarry leaves Gwynedd village 'besieged' and overwhelmed
Hundreds of cars lined both sides of the hilltop village on the edge of Eryri which is close to an attraction that has surged in popularity

If anyone has been to the quarry via Deiniolen in the past they would be shocked seeing this video.    Not one tow truck visible on the road, it's bonkers

Villagers swamped by overtourism say visitors 'bring nothing but disrespect and problems'
Newborough has been blighted by traffic congestion and anti-social behaviour for years - and locals have had enough

With a good spell of weather forecast for this Bank Holiday weekend the situation will only get worse
