Sorry a bit late with this.....................

Red Arrows displays and flights over North Wales cancelled
RAF Valley said it was a 'difficult' decision but will 'never compromise on safety'

A poor weather forecast has forced the cancellation of flying displays at RAF Valley, Anglesey. The decision means the Red Arrows display team will not be flying over North Wales tomorrow (Thursday, Aug 8).

RAF Valley’s Families Day will still go ahead tomorrow as planned, but a flying display between 2.55pm and 3.30pm will not go ahead. The scheduled involvement of the Red Arrows meant their planes would have been visible over parts of North Wales – they were due to fly over Denbighshire, Conwy and Gwynedd en route to RAF Valley, before returning to base via Gwynedd and Powys.

'I thought it was going to crash' - huge military plane filmed flying low and slow over North Wales
The plane and its soldiers seemed to be enjoying a sightseeing tour of coastal resorts

A heavyweight military aircraft turned heads as it flew low and slow over coastal resorts in North Wales. Its cargo door was open and soldiers could be seen peering out as if on a sightseeing trip.

The RAF C1 A400M Atlas, using the callsign Comet 451, can carry 116 fully-equipped troops. After flying west across Mid Wales, it turned back inland at Tywyn, Gwynedd, and flew north over Denbighshire before heading for Pensarn near Abergele, Conwy.

From there, it turned west to fly low over Llanddulas, Colwyn Bay, Rhos on Sea and Penrhyn Bay. The aircraft appeared to take extra interest in Llandudno, looping around the resort’s seafront before heading around the Great Orme and down the Conwy Valley

RAF message on aircraft activity in skies over North Wales in coming weeks
There will be additional activity over the coming weeks and a warning has been issued for those near the RAF Valley perimeter fence

RAF Valley chiefs have issued a message about planned aircraft activity over the coming weeks. The Anglesey training base has regular daytime flights of Hawk T2 and Texan planes.

But there will be some additional weekend and night flying over the next couple of weeks. The base has put out a message to tell people what to expect.

Re: MILITARIA.....Llandudno to host exhibition on contribution to D-Day

The crucial role North Wales played in the success of D-Day landings is set to be displayed in a landmark exhibition in Llandudno.

The exhibition will present the 80th-anniversary story of the Mulberry Harbours, which were developed under a veil of secrecy in Conwy and were integral to the success of one of the largest military naval, air and land operation ever attempted, marking the beginning of the campaign to liberate Nazi-occupied Europe.

The Llandudno exhibition will be on show from October 2 to 27 and will feature an 80-metre-long display narrating the events of June 6, 1944, and its aftermath.

The display, organised by the local community action group, Friends of Mostyn Street, will be made up of a series of 80-metre-long 3D wool panels, recreating the historic scenes, all knitted and crocheted by 2,000 volunteers worldwide.

The exhibition will also host a panel showcasing the Mulberry Harbours built on Conwy Morfa for the first time.

This panel will be displayed at Holy Trinity Church, Llandudno, within the larger display which, longer than the Bayeux Tapestry, aims to commemorate D-Day.

The number of panels mirrors the 80 days it took the Allies to fight their way across France to Paris.

Thanks to £20,000 in funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Creu Conwy Town Team, Llandudno Town Council and Llandudno Hospitality Association, the free exhibition will be in Llandudno.

'Starship Enterprise' warship with an alarming role spotted off Anglesey coast
The hi-tech vessel was acquired by the Royal Navy in response to Russian aggression

A futuristic vessel spotted off the Anglesey coast was a hi-tech Royal Navy ship designed to counter a growing threat from Russian attack submarines. RFA Proteus is the first of a new generation of surveillance ships designed to monitor underwater areas important to UK interests.

Operated by the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA), the ship was acquired by the Royal Navy amid growing concerns over subsea infrastructure in the wake of Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Since then, Russian attack submarines have twice conducted missions around the Irish Sea

The daring WWII reconnaissance crews who helped turn the tide of the conflict
Among them was a Gwynedd man who campaigners are hoping they can learn more about

A campaign to honour the daring pilots and navigators involved in clandestine photo-gathering intelligence operations during the Second World War is being backed by a Welsh MP. Dwyfor Meirionnydd MP Liz Saville Roberts is supporting a bid to create an official memorial in London to honour those who served in the Photographic Reconnaissance Unit.

Among them, was an Edward Gordon Bacon, who it is understood grew up in Bangor Street, Y Felinheli, near Caernarfon.
