Thanks for posting those photos Robert,   I'm sure that the residents of West Shore won't be worrying about flooding now  with that expensive new sea defence works in place
I wonder if those marine experts in the CCBC planning department have walked past all the pillars and not noticed that the ruts in the pillars are for the sole purpose of a sea defence?

It's a mess and unfortunately it's a regular occurence.       CCBC needs a licence from Defra so that they can put the sand back on to the beach but where does CCBC in its wisdom put the sand?

It's not rocket science but CCBC must know what will happen to the sand when the prevailing westerly wind blows on the West Shore

YEARLY MAINTENANCE of Llandudno's West Shore promenade and boating lake has taken place.

Contractors have cleared the sand from the promenade and boating lake.

The boating lake was drained and left empty last year so maintenance work could take place.

The lake was not refilled over the winter in order to mitigate risks to the public should the lake have frozen over.

Conwy County Borough Council had aimed to refill the boating lake in mid-April, and said this will be done with natural water flow from the Great Orme.

I wonder where they will dump the sand from the Promenade and the boating lake?       Surely they won't dump it on the beach  above the high tide mark?

Hugo once again this council will Not listen to locals    The cost of this clearing of the sand each is massive. It’s not rocket sience that since they put them rock groynes there that’s they area that the sand gathers,    Near a Pugh the same thing is happening on colwyn bay / rhos beach.

Do you know exactly where they put the sand back on the beach Norman?     If they put it above the high water mark then dry sand will come back over the wall quicker.
It's us the ratepayers that have to pay for the cost of cleaning up the mess caused by that sea defence.      Isn't there a Llandudno born and bred Councillor out there that can speak up for the local people?

I haven’t been down there this time to see. But other years it’s funny to watch But also a disgrace how they do it.   They dump the sand opp the old hotel then get wagons to take it away they say it’s contaminated. 😤.  As you say if they put it below the water line it would be wet,   I’m afraid we have No local born proper councillors anymore. 😤🥲

Most from the pond and promenade was placed on the beach below the high water mark. It took 5 days, two dumper trucks, two excavators and a smaller bucket type machine, all appear to have been hired from 'Thomas Plant' who collected them on Saturday morning I counted five men working on the job and then a further two council staff arrived on Friday morning to sort the pipe valve out in order that they can regulate the level of the pond water.

Five men five days on min wage....£4000 ?
Plant five days....£3000 ?
Id put the total job at £10000?

Pond is now filling up slowly just in time for Easter....shame the can't finish the westshore sea defence work which is still ongoing, with the paddling pool sea defences the council paid £5 million of which the rate payer pays £1 million .

But its only rate payers money !

Thanks Norman and Robert for letting me know about the sand and its problems.    Thanks for posting those photos Robert, hope you enjoyed your walk in the glorious weather we have been having recently.
I had a drive to the West Shore today and it's so different to when I was a teenager and also up to 1993 when disaster struck the West Shore.
That scrubland in the left of my photo was my favourite place to swim, beneath that rubbish tip were about at least 12 steps but now they have gone for ever because of incompetent Councillors.   The locals had told them what was going to happen but they still took no notice of the locals
