Apart from telling us all about the impact that the recent snow fall has had on the UK  I noticed that an earthquake was reported on the Isle of Mull.
The photo with the article is of Tobermoray and that's where Banjo Beale lives.     I've enjoyed watching him on the TV programmes "Scotland's home of the year and also on Designing the Hebrides"    Both are well worth watching on BBC I Player.
I hope that the quake hasn't affected our forum friend Mull who also lives on the isle

What is up with news reporting on TV. All we heard yesterday was that it had been snowing.

It is mid winter, January so what do you expect at this time of the year. We had enough warning it was coming.

As for the earthquake last night Hugo.  It was on the mainland in the Morven/Loch Sunart area. and on the Mull Help FB page it seems a lot of people on the east side of the island felt it. Closest person to feel it towards our end lives in Pennyghael , 15 miles away. Not that unusual up here, happens every few months. I think there is a fault line that runs up Loch Linnie and the Great Glen.

Nice cold, crisp, clear morning up here with no wind for a change.

Happy New Year everyone.

Well said Mull. The poem “The Months” by Sarah Coleridge was pretty near correct with “January brings the snow, makes our feet and fingers glow”. If we didn’t have this wintry weather, how would we truly appreciate the milder days of spring?

MOH and I ventured out this morning for a “bleak midwinter” stroll around the village.

Were you out in Australia today  SAJ?                 It beats sledging down Nant Y Gamar though and I bet the people living in those expensive houses at the top of the hill didn't venture out yesterday

No Hugo, just standing on my head to let the blood rush to my brain and to prevent my feet getting too cold! Not many venturing out here either as it’s a bit slippery out there and we’ve already been out with snow shovel and a couple of old towels to rescue a neighbour in a rear wheel drive vehicle from some deeply rutted snow and ice.

Thanks SAJ,  just stay safe and warm in these conditions.        When I was clearing the snow from my drive this morning I had one or two slides on the drive before I put some grit down to melt the ice

Met Office snow weather maps show when and where fresh deluge is forecast to hit North Wales
More sleet and snow is predicted to fall on Thursday, January 9, as temperatures drop to below freezing, with further wintry weather possible after that

I know that we are quick to moan about adverse weather conditions in this area but at least it's nothing compared to what they are having in the USA or even Scotland

Winds of up to 80mph are set to arrive at the end of the week
Storm Éowyn has been named as gusts of up to 80mph approach the UK. The region had been placed in the firing line as the first of two “weather bombs” crashes into the UK later this week, with forecasts saying storm force winds could strike in places.

Power cuts and schools shut as Storm Éowyn hits
Thousands of people are without power and 50 schools will remain closed on Friday as Storm Éowyn brings severe gales.
Several weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office, external, including an amber warning for strong winds.
Gusts of up to 93mph (150km/h) have caused multiple power cuts in north Wales while more than 2,200 people are without power in south and west Wales.
It is quite bad up here at the moment and likely to get worse but those people who live further north will get the brunt of the storm.
I hope that Mull will be safe and warm up there on the island and that all our forum friends will be safe too

Hi Folks------ On a Red Alert here and wind now in the high 90's and forecast until 1800 hours. First time I had heard a Red Alert on the mobile phone. Wondered what the noise was at first. We have had plenty of warning so all tied down.

South east side of Mull having power cuts and with a blow like this I am expecting our power to go off at sometime. We are used to strong winds up here but not as high as this.

Stay safe everyone, and if you are around buildings wear a hard hat if you go out.
