Here is a picture of me on one of Alf Davies' ponies at the Rhos Gala.  Can't remember the year but maybe in the 1950's.  The pony's name was Fairy!

The answer to the Fortes question is " The C M Chapel".  Picture 1907

All I can say is it looks a good solid building in 1907 ---- but it did'nt last thirty years. It was just a pile of gravel by 1937. I wonder if the Pyes got at it and flattened it by fair means or foul. Would'nt put that past them  (Sorry Jessie, one of the last of the family around the Bay )

Unfortunately, that's incorrect.  :( I thought that for a long time too, but the chapel was actually where Ninos is now and the present cafe actually incorporates the chapel building, hence the odd shape.

Damn I should have spotted that. Actually I think I can dimly remember the chapel.

Of course! It was only when I saw on old postcard of Rhos and saw the chapel sitting where Ninos is now that I realised the error.

Welshmaid and White Rabbit, nice you both to want me to go on about Rhos, but this is a Quiz thread. Questions are asked and answers are sometimes received.

So heres a question. Within Rhos boundary is a sizeable number of trees, bushes, rabbits---almost big enough to be called a wood.  But you cannot get at it from any road.  To get to it you would have to trespass or get permission. Where is it? No looking at Google area photos

P.S. Ive got half a mind to ask Welshmaid to leave it to all the newcomers!!! LOL

Is it the triangle of trees etc behind Everard Road? I noticed it a year or so ago and have always meant to investigate.

Dave has got it.  You only have to think of the road names around.  "Woodlands Avenue."   It actually belongs (or did 40 or so years ago) the very last house in Woodlands Av. Mr Syd Cutler the butcher who had a shop in the West End lived there until the early 1960s when he moved to Brompton Avenue.  That is the only way you can get into it.
As a kid I was very annoyed that I couldnt find my way in --- I always liked woods for various adventures.

Another old Rhos question.   Where was THE RHOS GARAGE?

Is that the Rhos County Garage or another one, Mike?

There was Berry's Garage which may have used the name.   Or was it the one up Church Road by the School?

Sorry Dave, you have picked on a sore point with the owners  of the Rhos Garage, all sadly departed this world.
The Rhos Garage was opened around 1927 --- the Rhos County Garage arrived sometime later, probably early 1930s.
Yes Yorkie, it was indeed Berrys Garage. This was an example of a nickname taking over----everybody knew it as Berrys and its original proper name became forgotten.
Many years later the family gave up and painted "Berry's Garage" on their signs.
