The brickwork looks like the station.
Only a wild guess--The Broadway?Wrong end of town, I'm afraid. It's close to a few other bars and clubs though. ;)
It's the photographer on Upper Mostyn Street. I'm not sure of the name of the gallery but I think it's something like "Image Gallery."...is the correct answer! :D
I'll see if I can see anything interesting to test the readers while I'm pootling about in my cab.Yes, please do, the more the merrier. It'll have to be pretty obscure to escape the eagle eyes of Steve though. D)

I've got "The Tree Towns" to work with now Dave. Steve's book only covers Llandudno!
Curiously, I've never seen him and Trojan in the same room either.
Which business in Llandudno would like you to relax....?

Now ...why is this thread in Times Past ?? Come on lets have it ... you moderators are usually so logicalin these matters.
Having said that, I remember what happened the last time we had a ''re-organisation'' on the old forum !! Y^^Y

I suppose it could be in 'Ask A Local', I'll move it there. :)

Now that the forum covers a far larger geographic area, it's probably a good idea for the person posting a question to say which one of the three towns it is in.

Hmmm I know this one but I'm saying nothing! :D
It's not outside an old Church Trojan but perhaps the owner should have gone to Parkhurst too!Indeed!
It was an ironmongers in Upper Mostyn Street next door to Pritchard's Lilac Cafe. Not sure what it is now there's so many cafes and bars up there.Spot on, Llechwedd, it is now Pars Restaurant. Can you remember if the Lilac Cafe was on the left or right of it?

[I should have known that..(kicking myself) ... because I took a look around those flats when they were first for sale 4 years ago,You should have seen some of the ones I've been round in Colwyn Bay!! Every window either smashed or boarded up, kitchen and bathroom had been completely removed to stop squatters - it's an eye opener alright. Even at £10,000, it wasn't worth touching. :o
They were in the most disgusting state ... people were living in at least one of them in total squalor, and I could not believe that any Estate Agent would dare to show a prospective buyer around in conditions like that.
I think the one in question is still the one I viewed.... its VAST inside, and was originally up for £139k.It's the First Floor Flat in this pic:
It might have since been sub-divided , but I have no knowledge of that ..
All I know is I wouldn't live in it if you paid ME ! :puke2: :puke2:

No this one! It's the correct boat but it doesn't give the reason why it would cause a big problem! That reason was that it collided with the Pierhead and demolished several piles. Everyone was worried that it would completely demolish the end of the pier but, fortunately, it then actually passed under the Pier without causing any further damage as it was blown ashore.
The WILLIAM AND HENRY was a 35nt wooden schooner built in 1839 and registered at Dublin. At time of loss on 8 January 1908, the vessel was owned by S E Pim & Co of Wicklow and under the command of T Doyle. The schooner was carrying a cargo fo salt and had sought the shelter of the anchorage in Llandudno Bay, It was caught by a north-northwesterly force 9 gale and blown ashore.

I'm sure someone said it's working for Trinity House, Bri, renewing buoys and suchlike?

It was easy - I just put in a search for Princes Theatre, Llandudno and up popped Oscar's Blog for October 2009 with the picture and a full description!! I then went to Google Street View and had a look just to check.I think you'll find it was my blog, not Oscar's, Yorkie. :D
Even my Mrs who is from this area couldn't help me! :P
you are right Yorkie, it's 72 Mostyn Street! Trojan the question asks for the location of the building but as the Princes Theatre is no longer there, the building is not next door to it! :P
Adjusted my post and now given full credit to you - sorry, I should have been more careful! :DNo problem, Oscar would never have material of such quality on his blog! :P :o ;D

Ever noticed the huge crack in the side of the building?Yes, on the side facing LSP. When I was inside that area, I noticed that some work had been carried out inside to brace the building.
Would that be the one in Happy Valley above the old reservoir and near the Headlands Hotel?I'm afraid not, Hugo. A clue - Top Putt Golf is inside.
Sounds to me like an arcade game so I'll try the Royal Arcade next to Barclays BankYou're on the right lines but not in the right place....
Golden goose?Well done!
None - they are all modern reproductions! Z**It's not a trick question! They are all originals (albeit refurbished several years ago) and are Listed Grade II by CADW, as are all the other original street lamps in town.

Was it graffiti on the wall of the Conwy morfa railway tunnel? ???Yes! Written in proper red paint (as opposed to spray paint), 'Chimp Loves Bray' is on the right-hand stone pillar of the bridge as you leave Conwy. It must date back to the 1960s, has been seen by probably millions of car drivers and is still visible (just about) today. I wonder if Chimp still loves Bray or did it all go sour? Does anyone know who they are?
The Hydro??Now, this is a bit tricky because...I don't actually know the answer! I have a suspicion where it might have been and that's the Ballroom in the Winter Gardens/Astra. Can anyone confirm/deny? ;D

What are you doing with that golf ball in your possession? Dont you realise that pocketing golf balls deprives us golf club owners out of a pint of beer---we have to settle for a half LOL
GreenwoodsNo, I'm afraid not, Greenwoods was the Bunneys Building.
Is it Burtons? Built in 1934?Nay, Lad.
It looks like the Ascot (not sure if the name is correct) in Craig Y Don. It was knocked down and the flats were built instead on the corner of the promenade and Carmen Sylva Road.Quite right, Hugo. The house was called Ascot and the faintly hideous block of flats that replaced it is called Ascot Court.
Looks like the Bedford Hotel in the background
Dancing?That's amazing......was that a guess?
Oakely Doakely...............was it used..........for NOT dancing D)Correct! It was actually used as offices but for who?
Halifax Building Society. My clue seems to have misfired. It wasn't a reference to a financial organisation. :(
Mostyn Estates - Z** and if it's not that I give up ZXZNo need to give up, you are correct. This building was the original Estate Office for Mostyn Estates - whatever possessed them to demolish it, I don't know, it's a great looking building. Mostyn Estates then moved to their first floor offices on Mostyn Broadway (above the Doctors) and, a few years ago, to their current offices at 2 Mostyn Street.
Is it the hotel on the promenade once owned by Mac Day and rebuilt as Crescent Court (or a similar name) as apartments ?Correct! It was this hotel which was demolished and rebuilt as poorly designed flats, a move that triggered the designation of large parts of central Llandudno as a Conservation Area.
Guildhall, Rosehill Street.Correct! :)
Inside the Pier building isn't it? ?{}?Nay, lad. Ponder some more.
Four Oaks in Eirias Park?Wow, that's a blast from the past, Bri! No, it's not it, I'm afraid. This photos was taken only recently.... ;)

I've been parked outside it a gazzillion times in my cab but I never recognised it because it's always open when I'm there!
A quick guess, Ticket Office to the Platform(s).Well, that's half the answer, so good enough, I guess. The tunnel was part of a private passageway that linked the Railway Station at Colwyn Bay with the original Colwyn Bay Hotel, so that the Guests did not have to associate with mere mortals. The tunnel remains in situ today, although it is sealed off. You can see the entrance above the Public Toilets on the Rhos side of the Pier.
Quick guess - The disused Railway Line to Trawsfynydd (originally the Blaenau Ffestiniog-Bala Line)That's not it, I'm afraid, the answer lies in the Conwy area...
Just before the railway brige over the River Conway, on the junction side. Leads to the old dockBrianP takes the prize! It is the old LNWR Quay Siding, just to the side of the main line by the Conwy railway bridge. Used originally for shipping out goods by boat (including, for a short time, aluminium from the newly opened works at Dolgarrog), it then remained in use as Carriage Sidings for many years until the sidings were removed in the 1980s but the line down to the Quay remains, along with an old LNWR crane on the Quay itself. I've seen people walking on the Quay bit but have no idea how they got there, unless by boat?
Led to the old goods yard and loco sheds and the 6G motive power depot (which closed in 1966). This and the former adjoining goods yard now have been redeveloped, but the new flyover road across the site bears the name 6G.

What do you reckon it's for, coal?
I thought it may be for coal, I only saw it for the first time last week, I was interested by the name 'Coalbrookdale' cast on it. There's lots of interest in the back passages of llandudno D)
My OH says it was for coke delivery as the central heating boiler was in the basement at that point.
You know too much Trojan
Only joking Trojan :-*

Lighthouse on Great Orme that is now a Guest House?
It's the keystone of the house next to Capri on Church Walks.
Is that in Haulfre Gardens?
Got lots of ink(?) blobs on it! :D_))* _))* _))* L0L
Are those two white pillars still there?
Eh? So nothing is odd about it then? .... am I missing the point?
Get a grip man! Thats not a quiz question!
Looks like the Summit Complex at the back to me. It's a gate in the walled enclosure on top of the Orme.
As you are reading this you are sitting at your PC probably at your home! L0LI might have taken the photo on my phone and posted it straight to the forum using the built in Internet browser.... ZXZ
Castle Hotel Conwy perhaps?Indeed it is! Shakespeare's bar, as it used to be called. The location of the infamous Byron Davies incident, as well.

Where in Llandudno will you find this unusual first floor window? Why does it say TROJANS Hair Studio?
If you blow it up, you wont see anything, as I made sure to photoshop it out! ;) :P
Like i said, it was photo shopped so you cant see anything other than a basic outline. :DIf you blow it up, you wont see anything, as I made sure to photoshop it out! ;) :P

The Bridge over the Railway station at Deganwy?Have you been following me? ???

I got in for free as well with my over 60 Cadw Pass ( THe biggest secret in Wales !) and had an excellent afternoon wandering around and chatting to the very knowledgeable volunteers. Especially liked the room with the illnesses and cures !
Apologies for hijacking the TOPIC but is this complimentary over 60 CADW pass still available ?
Another wild guess Bodlondeb Castle Flats.Wrong end of town, I'm afraid.
is it The Grand Theatre?Spot on! There is a maze of abandoned corridors and staircases in the Grand Theatre building.
Oriel Mostyn (deserted as usual)Correct, as I should hope, because you've been in here too. $walesflag$
It was new to me when I went past it today but I should have known that your local knowledge is insurmountable! Great stuff. &well&
Have you got a picture search facility? Don't know how you get them so easily! $walesflag$
I've got a little Vixen by my side who was born and bred here so that helps somewhat! L0L
You are so very clever! :D Now she knows where Grassendale is! My error, it is the Grandparents not GGP. D)I've got a little Vixen by my side who was born and bred here so that helps somewhat! L0L
I believe one of her Great Grand parents lived in a house named Grassendale in Mostyn Avenue, Llandudno. Related to Robert Claire Baxter no less.
Just cheated and looked on Google Maps is it Donald Insall ArchitectsBad boy! :o Yes, it is the Wales office of Donald Istall Architects, the foremost practice of conservation architects in the UK. I believe they are involved with the shortly to be unveiled plans to renovate Gwrych Castle in Abergele.

Is it the 'Flying Foam', wrecked at West Shore in 1936?
The original Library iin Llandudno. ;)
Before my time but was it where the old Red Garage was in Argyll Road?
I have it now as the Broadway Garage, Craig-y-Don but cannot find The Broadway, apart from Mostyn Broadway! I suspect it may have been where LSP garage is now or at least close by, maybe on what is now the Coach Park.
I thought Creams were based at Red Garages but you've already said that's wrong so I'm stumped
There was a Creams booking office at the old Astra/Odeon, I think?
Looking at the photos of the Motor Station and Astra, there's quite a bit of similarity in the ground floor design - was it a design that was modified and the cinema was built on that site instead of the garage maybe?
You've been on the same boat trip as me! L0L
The specific cleft in the rock is called Dutchman's Cave. 8)
Ogof Elmyn ;)
The building was demolished and the new building started in late 1933 housing the Winter Gardens, opened on 25 March 1935
Llandudno Motor Station was opened in 1930.
The coaches were at Herkomer Road / Bryniau Road which was taken over by Frank Tyldesley and became a Garage, since then a One Stop Shop and now Disability Shop.
There is also record of Creams being at Dunphy's Warehouse and Bakery and also by Maesdu Bridge!
Zach (Zachary) was one of the brother's and the other was I believe Daniel but can't be sure.
In 1920 Sir Zachry's father, also called Zachry, and his mother bought some freehold land adjoining Queen's Road and Conway Road and rented a house called Bryn Wylfa. It was at this house that Sir Zachry was born.
The Brierley Brothers were Sir Zachry's father Zachry and his brother James.
When Sir Zachry was born in 1920 and until 1944 when his grandfather died, there were three Zachry Brierleys alive.
Llandudno Motor Station was opened in 1930.
I think it was Queens road and at a guess it later became an engineering works
Here endeth the history lesson on the Brierleys! L0L
Water pump from the Gt Orme mines?
That's a tricky one Yorkie and I haven't a clue. I don't think it's in Llandudno and more likely to be in Conwy but I'm still thinking about it. ?{}?
Where is this Listed Building in the Three Towns area?
Shouldn't be too difficult, there aren't that many!
Ah! There is a major clue! L0L
Yorkie's right, it's the one next to the path behind St. David's College/Gloddaeth Hall.

i allways believed thorpes builders yard was at the end of jubilee street and to the left hand side of central school,it was where we used to have our ciggies and do our scrapping, and joe butler would come out of the school gates into thorpes yard and catch us confiscate the fags and drag us by the ear back into school to see mr garfield rees our head

isn't that in junction?
Breton Street ?Correct, Bri! I'd never walked down there before, what an odd little street, looks like there would have been quite a few businesses down there at one time but most of the warehouse type buildings seem empty now:
Llanrhos school? Not Llanrhos School, I'm afraid.

Nant y Glyn Methodist Church at The DingleNot that either, I'm afraid.
Old pump house in Rhôs on Sea, off church roadThat's the one. It's been in the papers lately with a reward for anyone who can suggest a new use for it.
I used to work for Welsh Water and visited there quite often. It's a very impressive building and goes down two storeys underground as it had a dry well set-up. The pump motors were at the top with two propshafts going down to each pump at the bottom. There was also an office and workshop at the back on the ground level. That's interesting, what exactly is a dry well set up?

I may be wrong, (and more often than not I am), but I think that planning permission was introduced shortly after the end of the second world war. grand theatre - broadway boulevard?Well done, Dwsi, its the inside of the top tower room seen in this photo:
whoop whoop! $bounce$Probably just storage. It only exists to give the building a tower, really. The whole building is full of disused rooms, which would have once been dressing rooms, props, costumes etc. It's a real maze on the upper floors and the alterations to the layout caused by the Nightclub have made it even worse. We crawled through this hole at the top of a disused staircase and found ourselves behind the counter in one of the upper bars in the Boulevard!
What was the purpose of the room in the theatre's heyday?
It's my ambition to find one you don't know!
I've still not got over you knowing the concrete wall in the Oriel Mostyn in about 5 mins flat!
Now, back to Hollin's question.... Hmmm, where would she patronise, that Dave R might also frequent?..and it would unlikely to see Fester in.....
