Llandudno Library will re-open Tuesday January 25th

Come along to see the newly refurbished library - enjoy all your favourite services along with some new ones...

Conwy’s busiest library has benefited from a grant funded refurbishment programme and is due to reopen next week.

Llandudno Library, which received over 160,000 visitors during 2009/10, will boast a range of new and improved facilities when it re-opens to the public on Tuesday 25 January.

Library users will see a whole new look to the library layout. There will be specially zoned areas, including a family-friendly area, which will accommodate the library’s popular story time sessions, an area for young people and a local history zone.

There's also a newly refurbished area where people can use the library’s IT facilities or drop-in to make use of Wi-Fi access. Along with new self service counters for taking out and returning books, allowing staff more time to help library users and deal with enquiries.

The building has also improved disabled access and new baby change facilities.

The improvements were funded by a capital grant of £300,000 from Welsh Assembly Government/CyMAL and £100,000 from Conwy County Borough Council Local Community Regeneration Provision, only available for this purpose.

Cllr Goronwy Edwards, Cabinet Member for Communities at Conwy County Borough Council said,

“We are delighted that the Library Service successfully secured this grant funding for Conwy for the third time, after successful refurbishments in Abergele and Colwyn Bay libraries, and we’re pleased to continue investment in libraries when funding permits. I’m sure that the Library’s customers will find the new facilities impressive and the numbers will continue to increase.”

We read in one of the local newspapers of an open evening from 5pm - 8pm tonight.

Me and the missus went just after 5pm and thought it all looked really nice.

Apparently, our tour guide informed us there are a few less computers available but this will be offset by free wi-fi for everyone who takes in their own notebook or netbook.

They have also much improved the children's area as well as the library desk.

The centrepiece is the opening up of the balcony into the former reference library.

I would recommend a visit if only to appreciate all the changes.

I think I will pop along on Wednesday and take a look. I still have a lot of digging in the Local History section to do.

Don't forget to put the floorboards back when you've finished Dave.  ;D

I'm looking forward to a busy weekend in the cab.

It's busier than Christmas and New Year. Bring it on.

Well, yes... one does see the Batala band several times during the year.

But (to me) The Extravaganza itself makes a change, because all the OTHER days of the year are the same.

When else can you buy an over-priced cheeseburger at the road side in Llandudno?

I've never managed to be in Llandudno for the Extravaganzer, but this year I will be here! I'm really hoping my favourite bus from the old Marine Drive tours will be there, it was a maroon and cream Guy Wolf around 1948 I think, I've not seen it since I was a teenager, it would be great to be reunited!
