Re: Welsh National Tractor Road Run to be held in Conwy for the first time
« Reply #796 on: June 10, 2022, 10:07:17 am »
CLWB Tractor Dyffryn Conwy has organised the Welsh National Tractor Road Run on Sunday, June 19, an event in aid of various charities held across Conwy.

It starts at 9.30am from Dinarth Hall camping and caravan site in Rhos-on-Sea, going towards Llandudno along the promenade and around the Orme, out on West Shore to Llanrhos, across St David?s roundabout to Glanwydden, then on to Mochdre.

The route then goes past Mountain View pub and up to Colwyn Heights, through Bryn-y-Maen along the B5113, turn right down to Eglwysbach.

After going up past Llan Syberi, riders will stop for lunch at Wood Energy Wales, Llanrwst, then travelling back along country lanes left at Holland Arms pub, through Llanelian to the Marine roundabout at Old Colwyn, then down to Colwyn Bay promenade, along to Rhos-on-Sea and back to Dinarth Hall.

A spokesperson for the event said: ?Our charities are mostly local - St David?s Hospice, Ty Gobaith, Wales Air Ambulance and Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute.

?There will be people on route with charity buckets.  We also have a grand draw raffle.

?We've have had to change the route and lunch stop because of roadworks to Conwy Bridge and now keeping east of the River Conwy.

?There will be 100 + tractors taking part, mostly vintage tractors, so a bit slow on the road!

?It is the eighth Welsh National Tractor Road Run, but it?s the first time that it?s been held in North Wales.?

Update and photos of the above post.............

MORE than 100 vehicles took to the streets of Conwy yesterday (June 19) for the first Welsh National Tractor Road Run (WNTRR) to be held in North Wales.

It was the eighth WNTRR, but the first time the event had come to the region, and had been three years in the making.

Organised by Clwb Tractor Dyffryn Conwy (Conwy Valley Tractor Club), the event was held in aid of numerous charities in the region.

This included St David?s Hospice, Ty Gobaith children?s hospice, Wales Air Ambulance and Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute.

A total of 130 tractors, many of them vintage vehicles, rode from Dinarth Hall camping and caravan site in Rhos-on-Sea, towards Llandudno along the promenade and around the Orme, out on West Shore to Llanrhos, across St David?s roundabout to Glanwydden, then on to Mochdre

Social media saying lots of work going on now ?

A planning application will soon be submitted for a derelict Rhos-on-Sea tourist hotspot. Today Rhos Point is covered in weeds, rust and litter with birds nesting in its derelict buildings, but the site was once home to the town?s iconic pier.

The site is currently leased to Tir Prince Raceway who unveiled ambitious plans for the spot over two years ago. In February 2019, Llandudno Pier owner and Tir Prince chief executive Adam Williams revealed plans to regenerate the area, potentially with a Mediterranean-style restaurant, upmarket coffee shop and kiosk.

It?s believed, however, that the pandemic has stalled the plans. Consequently, the area remains overgrown with weeds and suffering from neglect, but the good news is that a planning application could soon further the development.

A spokesman for Tir Prince said the site was being tidied up before a planning application is submitted. ?Workers were at the site today (Tuesday) to help clean up the location,? he said. ?They will undertake ground testing in the coming weeks before finalising the plans for the site and submitting a planning application.?

A Conwy County Council spokeswoman commented: ?The transfer of the leasehold of this site to the preferred developer (Tir Prince Raceway Ltd) is in the hands of solicitors and progressing; the transfer is subject to planning consent.?

It's a nice spot for anyone to develop.    At one time Dylan's the restaurant chain had expressed an interest in obtaining the site but then settled for the Washington Hotel in Llandudno
Whatever is built on the site will have stunning sea views

THE 1km pipe which will deliver new sand to Rhos-on-Sea beach was successfully floated and sunk to the seabed yesterday morning (June 23).

In July, a dredger which will fix onto a floating pipe attached to the sunken pipe, and pump approximately one million tonnes of sand onto the beach.

This part of the long-awaited coastal defence work at the beach, which involves building a new rock groyne and importing this sand in front of the existing sea wall.                   ref pioneer

Just a thought ... when they were building the windmills out there wasn't there a concern over the effect on the marine life.

Surely if they are going to suck all that sand up and deposit on the beach it is going to take a lot of wildlife with it.

Just curious that i have not seen any mention of that.

Business leaders will get the chance to quiz project bosses involved in the multi-million pound transformation of the seafront at a North Wales village. The ?14m coastal defence scheme on Rhos-on-Sea?s West Promenade started last month.

The development involves building a new rock groyne and importing approximately one million tonnes of sand in front of the existing seawall and a widened and enhanced prom. But there has been fierce opposition to a proposal for a new one-way system with that part of the project still not given the green light by planners. This has triggered protests in the village.

Now members of North Wales Business Club will get the opportunity to hear directly from the project bosses - both at contractor Boskalis, who are doing the sand replacement part of the project, and Conwy council.

Club chairman Jeremy Salisbury said: "We are very aware that very many of our members are concerned about the work being done on the beach and promenade at Rhos on Sea and Colwyn Bay. We have been successful in making contact with Gert Jan Peters from Boskalis who is the project manager for the beach nourishment project.

"Mr Peters is happy to join us for a breakfast meeting in order to give a presentation on the above and he will be accompanied by a representative from the Conwy Council project team. Both will be willing to take questions at the end of the presentation."

He added that it called at short notice as they felt that given the speed the project was developing it was important for members to get this opportunity to raise any issues. ref DP

Sea defence: Million tonne Rhos on Sea sand move starts

There have been one or two small boats in the Bay for a few weeks but now a large boat is there presumably to import the sand onto the beach

I've just gone out on to my balcony and taken a photo of the large boat in the bay.  In the second photo, one of the smaller boats can be seen on the right hand side

SAND has been successfully added to a section of Rhos-on-Sea beach.

Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) has pumped the sand between Porth Eirias and the Colwyn By end of Cayley Embankment, with more to be added towards Rhos Harbour in the coming weeks.

CCBC said: Beach open! Our contractors have finished importing sand between Porth Eirias and the Colwyn Bay end of Cayley Embankment.

This section of beach is now open to the public.

More sand will be imported towards Rhos Harbour over the next three weeks.

The newly created 'Welsh Riviera' beach that's suddenly the 'best in North Wales'
In just two months, a 16ft high sandy beach has been created on the North Wales coast - and the locals are overjoyed

In recent weeks, striped deckchairs and day-glo beach shelters have returned in force and there?s been a large outbreak of sandcastles. The sun played its part as residents made the most of the new high tide beach that has suddenly materialised on their doorsteps.

This week, the sound of pumps finally fell quiet in Rhos on Sea. For two months they have driven sand-laden seawater towards the town?s sea wall, steadily building a beach 16ft higher than that which existed previously, and which was always covered at high tide.

Re: Everything to do with Rhos On Sea......Proposed traffic options

Conwy County Borough Council?s plans to introduce a one-way traffic system along the bottom of the Cayley Embankment on Rhos promenade.

Earlier this year the local authority secured planning permission for its plans for the waterfront but agreed to undertake further consultation on the proposed one-way system due to significant opposition from local residents.

The Council has now developed a number of options and is seeking the views of the public and other stakeholders before making a final decision on how to proceed.

You can find out more about the proposed traffic options and respond to the consultation here...........

Make sure your voice is heard by responding to the consultation as soon as possible.
