He was certainly able to contribute a few well constructed arguments on a few of the debate threads, something we could do with more of.
I read his posts on politics etc and they were really good, he's without doubt well informed on council issues which in all fairness has the  makings for a good debate, it was just the way he went out of his way to upset and needle other members including myself, put it this way Dave if anyone I wasn't familiar with (and I am with Trojan) referred to me as the one dressed in leather with a bull whip to my face I would have expressed my contempt in exactly the same way with the exception of being able to slap the arrogant pillock in the mouth.  I haven't got a problem as long as he keeps his barbed comments to himself.  He'll be back in a different guise I don't doubt it, only this time let's hope he winds his neck in!

Ps he's obviously not able to take criticism himself is he and as you stated Dave, if you give you have to receive or maybe it was the fact we were routing him out,  it wasn't going to be long before we all knew who exactly who it was and it's not so funny when you have to condone your digs to someones face is it,  comeuppance pie tastes a lot worse than the humble option after all.

I agree and he was asked to tone down his personal remarks.

I'm familiar with his style of posting, although not with him, and it's a style which embodies two facets: an apparently belligerent approach coupled with a shrewd appreciation of the issues involved. In other words, it's an ideal style for debates and discussions, but often comes over as too assertive and aggressive, characteristics which can mask what he's actually talking about.

If you look at what he's actually saying about issues, however, it quickly becomes clear that he makes a lot of sense, and that makes his contribution important for a forum. In fact, I probably disagree with him on a lot of the salient points, but that's irrelevant, because he's bringing them out and forcing folk to think about their positions on them.

Forums like this one can quickly become very cosy and intimate, with everyone knowing almost exactly what the other is going to say, and thus conversations can easily become simple joke swapping exercises.  But I feel we need different voices, different ideas and different views coming into the mix, and we shouldn't automatically assume that because someone's style irritates, that person has no place here.

A person with such a belligerent, assertive and aggressive approach (your words)

Ah, but I didn't quite say that.  To reiterate, I said his style embodied elements of an apparently belligerent approach.  The word apparently is important, since it illustrates the distinction between the naturally bellicose and those who employ the façade of belligerence for the purposes of debate and to draw the unwary into confrontational responses.  In other words, it's a strategy.

I also didn't say he was "assertive and aggressive" but that the style employed often comes over that way, which is an important distinction.

He's a seasoned forum debater who's familiar with the cut and thrust of debate, so you're probably right about him reading the forum as a guest to see what's happening.

I had an email from Oscar this morning...he was wondering why those who denigrate his blog on here are the same ones that visit his blog and comment the most on there?

Quite frankly I don't know the answer to your question.

However, as far as I am concerned Oscar's Blog is not as good as it was when it originally started and I think that when you get over 140 comments, mostly little more than rubbish, following one of his posts about some politician, I think it is not worth reading.   Nowadays I only go there very rarely just to see if there has been any change, a fact that he will be able to verify from his viewing statistics.  I don't mind telling Oscar (I'll use that name as if I put the real name it would not be printed) that I think the Blog has been let slide and that it would benefit from a bit lot more pruning in some areas.   As we have corresponded in the past, Oscar knows who I am, and knows where to contact me, so if he is unhappy about any of my comments here or anywhere else he knows where to write.   :P

Out of curiosity I have just been for a look around Oscar's Blog and I see that we BOTH have mentions.  Certainly very interesting to read the comments from totally anonymous mouthpieces!   L0L
