Walked past the Snooze bar on the weekend. Will have to try and get in and sample it before it closes down.
Noticed their exhaustive list of people they won't let in

No Shorts
No Football shirts
No hats
No Tracksuits
No Scallywags or Ruffians

good luck to them by diminishing their potential market of tourists by about 80% on hot days  ££$

It seems an odd idea to try and fund a business through donations? :o

I actually think that it's a great idea, and one that I am actively considering.

A simple outlay on a hat, and a little sign.  Then I can sit cross-legged whilst passers-by toss coins into the hat.
No rent, no stock to purchase, no risk and no tax.   I tell you, it's the way forward.

The new Fortes Ice Cream Parlour opened in the old Bettys Fabrics shop at the bottom end of Mostyn Street this weekend. Looks very classy.  $good$

I went to Bee Inn in Eglwysbach on Sunday. First rate service, food and decor.

My only criticism would be that I found it a bit odd Yorkshire puds were only standard with roast beef dinner... Luckily they let us request one to go with our lamb  :D

Funnily enough, I had exactly the same problem yesterday at the Glasfryn in Mold. I had the chicken roast dinner but only my partner (who had the beef version) received a Yorkshire pud. Excellent meal though, it's well worth a visit, same company as owns the Pen Y Bryn in Upper Colwyn Bay.

Went to Bank of Conwy for a meal last week - and very good it was too.

A bit pricey though (the mark up on tapas food must be astronomical) but the lager selection is excellent and the bar service very good.

Taste test coming in the Daily Post (not this week however)

Tom. Please do your best to produce a genuine taste test as was the norm when it started twenty years ago.
I presume that the actual visit has already happened. You just haven't got around yet to printing it. Because otherwise you are giving the establishment advance notice of your intended visit. Definitely not recommended. Mike
P.S. I will never, ever forget a taste test printed maybe 15 years ago. In the Post of course. Memory tells me it was somewhere around the Northop Mold area. It was unbelievably down to the knuckle with their criticisms. Every mortal thing from service, price, quality, toilets, etc etc etc. I remember talking about it to some friend and I said I will bet, first thing on Monday morning, the restaurant owner will be straight to his solicitor to see what if anything he could do. Oh, and the reviewer was definatelty NOT the late Mr Skidmore. He liked everywhere. If he didn't like it, he didn't print it

DaveR,s post about the sale of the Mostyn cafe. Buy there and you buy a place in the sandwich (no pun) board battle of the Century. Mostyn v what was the Town House. Back to back, not one inch over the border otherwise there is trouble, strategic times of placing and replacing and even taking away.
My simphaty is entirely with the Mostryn. If they cannot advertise themselves, how is anyone supposed to know they even exist?

Hi OrmeGolf,

I do my best to be a discerning critic in taste tests. I'll admit I've been fortunate to only go to fairly good eateries (in North Wales at least). So far my taste tests for the Post have been The Departure Lounge in Abergele, Castle Hotel in Conwy, Paysanne in Deganwy and The Gresham in Llandudno. With Bank of Conwy forthcoming.

Paysanne definitely the pick of the bunch, in my opinion it's the supreme place to eat in the county, ahead even of Signatures. Helped a great deal by Cai's hosting.

I do like the food at Hickory's too but I try to steer clear of anything too saturated by sickly-sweet barbecue sauce.

Definitely! The Gressingham Duck in a sweet oriental plum sauce is my favourite main course there, with the Platter of smoked salmon with a whisky and dill dressing for starter. Yum!!  $good$
