Llandudno Pier
« on: September 16, 2010, 02:24:08 pm »
Does anyone have a picture of GR Thompson's newsagents kiosk on the Pier at all please?  It was at the base of the Pavillion and we don't have a photo or post card for some reason.  We were always told it was the first kiosk on the pier but now someone says that was a fruiterers.

I know the one you mean, it was built under the legs of the stairway next to the Grand Hotel. Used to be run by a Frank Aigbogun in its final years. Don't think I have a photo of it but Trojan may have one.  :)

Is this the one you mean? You can just see it under the pavilion stairway at the end, with a person standing in front of it.

Llandudno Pier Wall Collapse

I've always wanted to know the story behind this photo, which shows a collapsed section of the retaining wall just outside the Grand Hotel in Llandudno, where the seaward section of the pier starts. When did this happen and what caused it?

Closer view of the newsagents kiosk. This kiosk actually still exists today under the base of the remaining Pavilion staircase, if you look carefully. I believe its currently used as a staffroom.

Hi Andrea.

I am totally confused as to the fishing situation on the Pier.
I have my own shop there, but I constantly get asked about fishing and I have no definitive answer.

Let me tell you what I would do.

I would take my fishing gear, go to the pier and fish my head off.... and if anyone wants thier £3 subscription, then surely they would approach you wouldn't they?

Go right ahead...

Sarah (bless her, cos I like her) ..finished around Christmas time ..  I think.

But then again, the weather was that bad, you couldn't get on the pier anyway.

Just to let you know since the demise of the Bait Shop on the Pier the newsagents at the corner of Upper Mostyn Street / Church walks has started to sell Bait and limited amounts of fishing tackle   ££$
