I saw today that Punch Taverns are selling up to 1,800 of their pubs.

Yes thats right but they're also investing 38m in their managed sector, all this means is they'll now work you like a dog, you'll get wages every week but at least you won't lose your deposit and lease money. Basically now you'll do all the work and they will get all the profit.

Thanks for the info.    The Killer is already up for sale and I wouldn't be surprised to see the Gresham become available either. The lease of the Alex is available as well, at a crazy price.

Bad news! Conwy Brewery isn't buying the Albion after all. Here's an email I got from Gwynne:


sorry to say we aren't buying The Albion, it would be great as a Conwy Brewery pub but we can't afford it and it would also distract us from our main goal which is brewing great beer,

Speaking of which, has anyone noticed the rise in kids hanging out in large groups in Conwy? Teenagers congregate in the Square and ride their bikes enmasse through town (going the wrong direction on the one way system). Don't mind a few kids but it's getting out of hand again.

I remember years ago the police passed a temporary law outlawing kids from hanging out in groups within the town walls after a certain hour of night and regulary broke them up and sent them home. What will it take to get this kind of law enacted again?

AHH.............. The Dispersal Order.  As I remember the police didn't actually inform the kids of this. They put leaflets on lamp posts, which teenagers do not read! The first they knew was when they were escorted mob handed by Pc Parminter out of the town.  I also remember that the trouble was then diverted from within the walls where there is CCTV, to the outskirts where there is none. Local residents kicked off even more, especially those who lived on the Morfa and up Pen Garth etc. Although within the town walls was considerably quieter the rest of Conwy was not.  I suppose it depends where abouts in Conwy you live and whether or not you have young kids.
Another ridiculous idea was a shelter costing £6,000 to be erected in Bodlondeb but heres the best, the council said they would put CCTV in it and send a police officer there to check on the youths randomly, meaning said youths would avoid it like the plauge, as I would have done when I was a teenager. I suggested that for the same money they could pay someone a wage of £125 a week to man the youth club and maybe not close the bloody building over the holidays when the kids are really are bored.  Y'know these kids are not arriving on buses every night they actually live here!!!!!!!!
I'm not saying that they're not a pain in the ass, I'm saying we should come up with a constructive solution. Maybe consult the youths first.  Escorting youths from within the walls is not a solution I'm afraid.

I don't disagree with any of this but as you recall, it was really bad at the time. Tourists were being accosted in the square, elderly were afraid to leave their homes at night and the 'parents' of these feral youth were blissfully unaware of what their kids were up to so the authorities had to step in to do the parent's jobs for them.

Why should my tax money subsidize poor parenting skills of those that live around me?

For the last few years the kids have been great, not causing trouble, not hanging out in large groups and so on. Its just in the last few months that the bad behaviour has cropped up again. Nothing has changed in the last few years it's just that this latest crop of kids is perhaps as badly behaved as the crop of kids from years ago. It's time to clamp down again.
