Thank you everone who has responded to my query, it would seem, from some of the answers that your ideas are as wild as mine as to the possibilities.   The lack of a name is a great disadvantage, but I never did see any identification on it.  A suggestion from the enquiring source thought they had heard the name "Llys Selig" at one time but without confirmation, my feeling is that if that is so, it is more likely to be a mispronunciation of "Llys Helig".
Many thanks anyway for your input, if I find the truth I will report back.

My neighbour who has lived in Conwy for all his 76 years on seeing the picture of the boat, immediately said that it was called the Llys Helig. And that was before I said anything. He remembers the boat well but sadly not the owner. He is convinced it was certainly there in the 50s and possibly into the 60s.

It's mentioned in The Shipbuilder Monthly, Vol. XXVIII, No. 149 Year 1923, January number, if you have a copy knocking about

Or try The Shipbuilder Monthly, Vol. XXIX, No. 158 Year 1923, October number!    ZXZ

Pity there is no other information or we could probably find out more.   I have written to the Magazine and will post any information they can give me.  I am as intrigued as everyone about this mysterious vessel!    D)

Not really my specialist subject but the editor of this magazine lives in Llanrhos and might be able to help.

There is a link to "previous issue" but it isn't up and working yet!   It will be a while before 1923 is there!    :weeping:

I'll keep on the job.

Just had a look around the Seed Fair, weather has held out ok and even a bit of sunshine. Quite a few stalls and lots of people wandering around.

Not Conwy itself but in the Conwy Valley at Tal-y-Cafn, I notice a Christie's sale board on the Tal-y-Cafn Hotel/pub.
I'm sure it wasn't there when I went past last week but apologies if it has already been posted elsewhere!

It has had a For Sale sign on it for some weeks now.   Not surprised people just won't drive to drink nowadays.    ZXZ

But it has been a popular eating place at times in the past and was not just a pub.. I remember well having some excellent meals when the Beards managed it.

I have known and used the Tal y Cafn for many, many years. What a roller coaster over the last ten. It just about sums up everything that is wrong with the licensed trade today. It used to be a Greenall Whitley pub when the brewery was like a great, paternal family looking after their brood of tenants. It served food as long ago as the 1950s, ham, egg and chips on a Saturday night, and a bit of a dance. Always well run, never any trouble, the customer knew what they would get before they even went there.
Around ten years ago things started to change dramatically. The tenants at that time still gave it a basically pub drinking atmosphere, but food was taking more and more priority.  The landlords wife was a bit of a handfull, upset a fair few, bar sales going down (not their fault, just changing drinking habits) and they packed it in. The brewery, now in the middle of tremendous change (it was 300 years old but within the next year or so it was no more) put in some very young, inexperienced males to "run" it. Overnight they destroyed all the trade that had taken 50 years to build up. They were terrible.
So Greenalls sold it.  A couple of fiftyish males bought it, spent some cash on improvements (car park etc), were excellent with the food and built up a very good, repeat food side. But, they moved on to another residential pub, and sold to guess who---say no more---Punch Taverns. Different manager every week, no customer knew what to expect before they arrived. Then another couple took over, I don't know if they bought it or what. But a load of money was spent on the building and gardens, work went on for months on end, and this couple tried everything possible to build up trade. Loyality cards, transport home, special nights, promotions, cut price residential deals, they did the lot.  But of course, it wasent enough, trade went up but not enough to pay for all the improvements and promotions. Shame because they were professionals. So then it was down to closed, or erratic hours, or God knows what the food is going to be like tonight. The drinkers were all long gone.

I remember it well at that point. A lot of money was spent on improvements/refurbishment but I can't say that the drinking/eating experience improved much.

It could do well if it offered excellent food - people always like the idea of popping out for a meal at a country pub.
