Tonight I wanted to take Mrs Fester to watch Wrexham v Brighton in the much awaited FA Cup replay.

But I had forgotten just how much the size of the Racecourse Ground had been reduced over the years.
(I used to go regularly, it seemed huge back then)
So, it is fully sold out...

Brighton are 3 leagues above Wrexham,  in The Championship.
So good luck to Wrexham, and I am now going to watch it LIVE on S4C,  in Welsh!

People like to see an underdog versus a higher ranked team... its natural, and draws big crowds, what wrong with that?

Just that - the big game draws crowds but there will an empty stadium come Saturday. I may be cynical and miserable but I think there is something very false and and sad about that

If Man Utd play Liverpool, its a big game so many thousands want to see it.

If Colwyn Bay play Vauxhall Motors (as they did last night) ... 170 turn up.

You would pay a pretty penny to see Bruce Springsteen, but would not cough up for a local unheard of band, whats the difference?

Your point is valid only if you class football as just another form of entertainment - that's taking out the passion, heritage and commitment that makes football what it is. There is no form of entertainment where there is a good chance you will come home miserable because your team has lost but still go back every week, that's what football is about and that's what  football is losing day by day in this modern world. The little clubs just won't survive. I 'd recommend Fever Pitch by Nick Hornby if anyone wants to read an in depth analysis on the subject.

This will be probably one of the only times I will ever post in the football thread.  As a rule I have absolutely no interest in the game and know naff all about it but I have to say the Cardiff game tonight was excellent, mainly because Gez supports Liverpool and there's a chance they may play in the final too.  Which means I will be able to wind him up no end  :twoface:
