Family of four 'pay £265 for breakfast' at A55 restaurant flooded with complaints
OK Diner said it had to take action and that customers do not have to pay if they sign in

Online review sites have been flooded with complaints about a restaurant on a gateway services stop on the A55. Dozens of irate customers have vented their anger after receiving parking fines at OK Diner, a US-style eaterie at the westbound Northop Hall services, Flintshire.

Some have vowed to contest their fines in court, most have said they will never return to the restaurant. People meeting there have been jointly fined. A family making their annual trip to Llandudno complained: “Breakfast for 4 people including a person in a wheelchair.... £265.”

Crashes down but overall road deaths up in first six months after 20mph limit introduced in Wales
Overall collision figures are positive but one crucial statistic is not

A new batch of provisional road casualty figures have been released by police forces - giving an insight into whether the default 20mph limit is reducing deaths and injuries. This follows the first post 20mph statistics being released earlier this year which showed an overall positive impact, although there were some caveats.

What should be noted is that this latest quarterly update is regarded as provisional and these are often under-estimates compared with final year’s data. So any reduction in collisions and casualties should be taken with a pinch of salt.

North Wales council receives more than 850 requests to turn 20mph roads back to 30mph
Councils will assess requests against new Welsh Government guidance

The government is offering fresh guidance on which roads should be 'exception' roads and go back to 30mph. Councils have always had the powers to use these exemptions but the government has been criticised for its previous guidance.

It has led to a huge variation in the number of exception roads in different counties - from 85 in Gwynedd to just six in Denbighshire. Councils have been asked to engage with residents over which roads should be reviewed - with changes expected to start in the autumn.

Conwy council said: "We’re currently looking at the content before we can assess which roads will need to be reviewed. We have received requests and comments from the public. If anyone feels that the speed limit on a particular road should be changed, they can email our Traffic team at traffic@conwy.gov.uk including as much information as possible." link below

500% surge in 20mph offences by North Wales drivers and the two reasons for it
More than 5,000 drivers were caught speeding on 20mph roads in the region – up from 892 in June
That's quite a disturbing trend.     What will August's figures be with all these tourists?

Clueless drivers in North Wales baffled by flashing blue lights on roads - here's what they need to know
Knowing the correct procedure may 'help to save a life'

Police have issued an alert to drivers across North Wales after noticing some are baffled by the blue flashing lights of emergency vehicles. While many react appropriately, others “don’t know what to do” when they see flashing lights behind them or approaching them.

Knowing the correct procedures in different scenarios will not only contribute to safer roads, it may also “help to save a life”. Yet North Wales Police officers have reported coming across motorists who risk delaying their responses to emergency call-outs.

Potholes causing damage to vehicles is the main concern for the majority of drivers in Britain, a motoring survey suggests.

The condition and maintenance of roads was the top issue for almost six in 10 people for the first time recorded in research by the RAC, ahead of insurance costs and fuel prices.

Punctures, wheel damage and broken suspension springs were the most common damage caused by potholes that was reported in the past 12 months, costing drivers on average £460.

However, claiming for compensation can prove time-consuming and costly.

Claiming can also be a stumbling block with the council insurers.
My son suffered pothole damage on Glanwydden Lane a couple of eyars ago - bent wheel, split tyre and damaged strut.
The council site showed that that location had been reported a couple of times previously.
In fact, the potholes, there were a few close together, were marked with yellow paint for repairing.
A claim was submitted, along with photographs of the potholes showing the yellow paint, and a copy of the reports taken from the website.
The insurers (Zurich) came back to say that they had contacted CCBC who stated that the road had been inspected and no damage found, despite the fact that we'd sent photos showing the holes marked.
A couple of weeks later the potholes were repaired.
My son was out of pocket to a couple of humdred quid.

Major delays after crash closed A55 in one direction
The collision closed the road but it has since reopened.... Somehow I don't think that it'll be the last crash on the A55 this Bank Holiday weekend

Conwy Valley road closure back in place as flood work restarts
The work is being carried out just north of Trefriw but businesses are open as normal
The closure is now back in place at Coed Gwydyr North, just north of Trefriw. Businesses north of that point in Dolgarrog, Talybont, and Ty'n-y-groes can be accessed from the north/Conwy direction while Trefriw can be accessed from the Llanrwst /Betws-y-Coed direction.

A first all-Wales convoy is being organised this month to mark the first anniversary of the country’s new 20mph speed limits. Organisers say they want to send a message that dissatisfaction has “not gone away” and that drivers will not be “forced out of our cars”.

The “peaceful” convoy will travel in stages across Wales over two days. The exact route has yet to be confirmed as organisers first want to gauge levels of participation in various parts of the country.

About 1,500 stretches of Welsh roads could be considered to have speed limits put back to 30mph a year after they were reduced to 20mph, BBC research shows.

More than 10,500 requests have been received by Welsh councils from residents to reassess roads that saw their limit lowered when the policy was introduced in September last year.

Police point to a drop in road causalities and crashes to suggest Wales' flagship policy is working, although a recent poll said seven in 10 people still oppose the new limit.

One motoring organisation has said traffic calming measures like speed bumps should be installed to force drivers to do 20mph.
