Complete guide to how you can lobby for exemptions on 20mph roads in North Wales
A formal mechanism for providing feedback has been published by the Welsh Government

The Welsh Government has formally launched a mechanism whereby people can lobby for exemptions on 20mph roads. Transport secretary Ken Skates is urging people to get involved and have their say.

As well as appealing for default 20mph roads to revert to 30mph, people can also press for speeds to be lowered too. Knowing who to write to will depend on where you live and what type of road is involved.

Where in North Wales drivers have been pinged for breaking 20mph limit - with over 100 at one location
The figures from North Wales Police show where motorists have been caught breaking the new default limit
One stretch in particular has been a speed trap for motorists. This is the Glan y Mor Road/Marine Drive road in Penrhyn Bay.
It's a busy road as it links Llandudno and Rhos-on-Sea/Colwyn Bay. Drivers are used to the previous 30mph limit and Go Safe have pinged a staggering 114 drivers breaking the limit in just over five weeks. The next highest site has 29 offences.

The data, which provides the total number of casualties in police recorded collisions, shows that in the last quarter of 2023 (October – December) road casualties on 20mph and 30mph roads reduced by 218, from 681 in 2022 to 463 in 2023. The total number of casualties on 20mph and 30mph roads in Q4 was the lowest quarterly figure on record outside the Covid pandemic period.............

Am I being a bit too optimistic in thinking that my insurance company will be giving me a partial refund on my insurance payment now that they have this evidence?

Rishi Sunak promises to scrap default 20mph speed limit in Wales
Conservatives criticised over promise that politicians at Westminster have no power to deliver in Wales.      Apart from that  they won't have any power anywhere after the 4th July

Driver clocked doing 88mph on 20mph road in North Wales
This comes as the latest data shows a huge surge in speeding fines in 20mph zones in Wales
Whatever your views are on the 20 mph speed limit, you can't defend that one, it's a fair cop

I was driving down King's Drive in Colwyn Bay this morning  and by the Old Highway cross roads a large coach from Voel Coaches had been travelling from the eastern section of the road and the front end of it was jutting out in to King's drive.
I don't know whether a crash had arisen or not but there must have been a 200 yard queue of cars going up the hill.
That stretch of the Old Highway is narrow and winding and I've never seen a coach on it before, it's bad enough just driving a car in that stretch of road

Week of 'chaos' in store as Conwy drivers forced to divert via 'major choke point'
The council said delays are likely

Drivers in parts of Conwy face a week of tailbacks when a diversion is set up at a busy roundabout. Traffic heading towards Deganwy and Llandudno must detour over the A547 Conwy Bridge before returning via the historic town of Conwy.

Conwy Council said drainage investigations are needed on the Weekly News roundabout in Llandudno Junction next week. As a result, the inside lane will be closed for five days, along with a section of road where the A546 flyover meets the roundabout. The local authority has warned motorists to expect delays and “allow extra time” for journeys.

Key road to close as Conwy Valley drivers face months of disruptions
A flood mitigation scheme gets underway in July and is due to affect traffic on and off until 2025-26

Motorists face long diversions when a flood alleviation scheme gets underway in the Conwy Valley next month. Culverts are being replaced or widened on the B5106 as part of a scheme that will eventually see parts of the road raised in height as well.

The B5106 is prone to flooding by run-off rainwater from adjacent hills, and from breaches in the Afon Clwyd. Conwy Council is allocating UK Levelling Up funding towards a three-year flood mitigation scheme in the Trefriw area.
