99.9% of the visitors to Llandudno could not care less about Alice in Wonderland and its largely imaginary links to the town.

Not sure about that. Nostalgia is a powerful thing, and Disney films during childhood, an adult who was read the stories and some canny marketing to grandparents could prove a winning combination. It marks Llandudno out as different and even special.

Ian, take a closer look at Llandudno when it's busy....  I doubt if 90% of visitors these days have ever read ANYTHING in their lives.
If it's not on an X-Box those under 25 are not interested. They rarely look up from their iphone screens.
Those over 25 are ONLY interested in beer, ciggies and ice-cream.
Open a few more tattoo parlours, and then maybe we have some attractions that are in increasing demand these days.

Perhaps that's all the more reason to try something different.

I stood on the slipway watching the 300 athletes negotiate the litter, seaweed and stones on our so called beach this morning and thought why did CCBC not rake this beach this morning knowing the triathlon was on,answer ,too busy in Conwy and Colwyn Bay probably.

It would mark out Llandudno as being special if there were actually any real links with the Alice stories...but there aren't!

I suppose Beddgelert does very well with the fictitious dog's grave story!

But the 'Alice link' is not even a good story, Ian. The whole premise of the Alice link is that the little girl who was supposedly the inspiration for Alice came to Llandudno a few times on holiday. Wow...big deal, we'd better get some extra car parks built to cope with all the demand to see the derelict site where her holiday home once was!

Seriously, Llandudno doesn't need this nonsense. Stick to the basics, by providing a clean, well maintained seaside resort with quality accommodation and a range of attractions for people of all ages.

Yeah I agree with Dave, and I really like the Alice stories as well. But it's a ludicrously tenous connection for all this fuss!

Quite soon there will be more Alice statues, plaques, trail signs and other paraphernalia than visitors!  Who is the Mad Hatter behind all this?    ZXZ
