The problem is that by simply building more and more houses, you will lose everything that makes the area an attractive place to live.

17/07/12 - Another great year of Green Flags in Conwy

Ten sites in Conwy County have scooped prestigious Green Flag Awards this year.

Wynn Gardens in Old Colwyn; Happy Valley Gardens in Llandudno; Bodlondeb in Conwy; Queens Gardens in Colwyn Bay;  Cae Derw in Llandudno Junction; Pentremawr Park in Abergele; Llanrhos lawn cemetery and the Great Orme Country Park & Local Nature Reserve have all retained the green flag status this year.

And this year Bryn Euryn Local Nature Reserve/Tan y Bryn Allotments has also gained green flag status.

In addition, the Fairy Glen Local Nature Reserve in Old Colwyn has again received the Community Green Flag, reflecting the input of the Old Colwyn Environmental Federation.

The Green Flag Award is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales.

The award scheme began in 1996 as a means of recognising and rewarding the best green spaces in the country.  It was also seen as a way of encouraging others to achieve the same high environmental standards, creating a benchmark of excellence in recreational green areas.

Conwy's Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Dave Cowans said, "These accolades are a testament to all the hard work by parks staff, countryside wardens, local community groups and residents.  We're really pleased to have retained our existing green flags, as well as adding Bryn Euryn and Tan y Bryn to the list."

"Well done and thank you to everyone that put so much hard work into achieving these awards."

Notes

The awards will be presented by the Minister for the Environment & Sustainable Development, John Griffiths AM at a ceremony at the Royal Welsh Show on 23 July 2012.

The oil yard has been bought by Alpine Travel according to one of their drivers. I hear Arriva are going next door in the old Biltons garage.

Wrex, I didn't know you could be so facetious.   To do a five or ten minute march to qualify for the bun fight at the George (unless they have changed the venue) is not a lot to do.  Plenty of grub and plenty of vino, and as usual we're the mugs who are paying for it!    WWW

I notice that on the Town Council web site they are asking EU permission to place cookies on your PC, laptop or whatever.  With all their problems at present existing I urge you to REFUSE TO ACCEPT COOKIES from them.   They have had over 10 weeks to sort out an SPF problem, even resorting to employing (or so they said), IT specialists, but so far the problem is no where being solved.   >>>

Apparently the reason they do not cut the grass anymore is they have no money,im at the Erias parc olympic thing on Friday we will see if that has been maintained. How long does the concrete need on the new floral clock.

Apparently the Floral Clock contractors have gone on holiday for 2 weeks, so it will not be finished until the end of August.

Great planning that! finished in time for the end of the main holiday period  ???  I wonder what bedding plants they can get for it?  This should have been started much earlier in the year but I suppose the funding was not in place?  years ago I can't recall coming to Llandudno on holiday and seeing half finished jobs at this time of year, whatever must visitors think?

I just hope that somebody takes a picture of the civic party standing at the Cenotaph with the uncut grass and the builders yard in the background.

If that wasn't so serious it would be hilarious.
Surely some of these construction contracts must be tied in to some kind of completion date?
Does everyone at this construction firm take their holidays at the same time??   What kind of business is this?

Too much time on their hands!   It's just a wind up!   Let's face it, it's just numbers to some people!
Must find the right balance somewhere, but it escapes me.   They'll spring into action when the alarm sounds.   ££$

Is it me or does the clock appear to face the road and not the Promenade?
It is risky enough anyway turning into the Prom with the cars illegally parked there on occasions without someone slowing down even more to gaze at the clock.
The positioning of the Alice statues are the same, anyone taking photos of them has to stand in the road to do it.
