This isn't our view but I am on holiday with mum in Sidmouth. This was the very sunny scene yesterday but not so clear today.

Pwllheli's Plas Bodegroes crowned UK Hotel of the Year

BY OWEN HUGHES

The stunning restaurant with rooms on the Llyn Peninsula took the 2015 prize in the Sawday’s British Hotel awards

Plas Bodegroes in Pwllheli has been crowned Hotel of the Year in one the UK’s most respected hotel guides.

The stunning ‘restaurant with rooms’ on the Llyn Peninsula took the 2015 prize in the Sawday’s British Hotel awards and features in the 17th edition of Sawday’s Special Places to Stay: British Hotels & Inns.

Inspectors travel the UK in search of the most special places to stay and picked Plas Bodegroes above all others.

It joins 300 other handpicked places in the guide.

The hotel has been owned by Christopher and Gunna Chown for almost 30 years and has built up an impressive reputation for its food.

Chris said: “This award is a pat on the back to everyone at the hotel because it is judged on the gardens and the rooms as much as the food.

“This shows the great deal of care that everyone puts into this product, from the gardeners to the housekeepers.

“We are a small close knit team and this award is a credit to them.

“Sawday’s is highly respected so to be Hotel of the Year is very pleasing to us.”

He added that the whole region had raised its game in terms of food and accommodation.

He said: “When we started out around 30 years ago quality places were few and far between but now that has changed.

“There are places that are being run by people who were here and other names like Dylan’s doing very well and then you also have Bryn Williams coming back to Wales to open a restaurant. These are really professional operators.”

The Sawday’s judge said of Plas Bodegroes: “A glorious house, one of the loveliest places to stay in Wales. It may be far flung, but it’s worth every second it takes to get here.”

Tom Bell, Special Places to Stay: British Hotels & Inns editor, said: “There is more innovation and creativity in an excellent small hotel than you would ever find in a corporate chain.

“Our award winners showcase the very best of British hotels with chic interiors, charming staff and delicious food.”

A very sedate little resort, I believe.

Even more sedate DaveR is the beautiful unspoilt village of Budleigh Salterton just along the coast from Sidmouth. Here are a few pics.

I remember playing football there as a very young boy back in 1957 or there abouts Hollins. We lost 4 - 1 but your quite right Budleigh Salterton is very beautiful.

Did you go to see the Weeping Window at St Georges Hall, Hollins ? If so is it worth the trip ?

Yes, I put the photos of it on here yesterday in "Exploring the area."
I thought it was worth it and I went when it was going dark so it looked stunning in the lights.

I've had a nice e-mail about old cars that I'm sure that you would have liked ME but when I tried to download the attachment on here I'm afraid that it was too large.
