The most likely explanation is a server glitch.

Why does everyone always blame the "computer" equipment?    :D

Because in this instance it's the most likely explanation.  For posts to have gone missing, and for there to be no record of those posts in the server logs suggests that the MySql database was involved, since it's that database that records and stores references to all the postings. Now, professionally hosted Apache servers normally use industrial-strength uninterruptable power supplies to avoid this very problem but, in certain situations, such as severe magnetic storms at or near to the server host, glitches can and do occur.

Any manual deletion of the posts would have been revealed through the logs and we haven't been hacked, because we'd know about that pretty quickly, so I'm going with glitches on the database server.

A contender for "room with a view" maybe?
Lovely photos and lucky you!

Admin has moved the photos to room with a view.

That problem has come back again about the pop up and something to do with a script not running correctly. I think it was Welshmunchkin that pointed it out last time and it did stop for a while afterwards.
Have tried to find the original post but failed, sorry!

If you can tell me what the popup message says, then I will try and fix it.  :)

Why would you have a backup on the same server as the site? Defeats the whole object of a Backup surely?

Try disabling script debugging in Internet Options.  ( Google for instructions if you don't know how).

This is what it says,

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

I get the same message - sometimes. It seems to be a known issue but there are no easy answers, yet.

This is worth a shot, it normally works for most browser script errors - but not always.
Go to internet options, either from the tools/settings menu in internet explorer, or in control panel\internet options.
click on the advanced tab
tick the 2 boxes titled disable script debugging
click ok

It seems to be an integral part of the Forum software, so can't be disabled, unfortunately.

Odd thing is that only some people seem to get it. I've never had it, and I use the Forum on a variety of PCs, Macs and mobile devices.
